All Eve has proven is if you don't provide the same level of entertainment on every platform you support, then you are only doing yourself harm. It's what stopped me. OK first thing first legacy is not 3 year old software. Legacy used to mean over 10 years.

Second I don't need the new and improved quickbooks which supports less that the old and "legacy" Quickbooks of 2007. The fact of the matter is that most software that we are discussing is not even 10 years old. Everyone is heading into this software as a service that they forgot that most people don't really care. They just want their business to run.

I don't care about apple or ms or any hair brained company that thinks it will make money off products that don't even work or lock in the users to a one size fits all solution. There are solutions out there that do not require this lock in even on windows and mac. It is a choice that we make to buy into this fad. People don't want the "new" ACCPAC at $15,000 they are willing to pay for the old reliable one that only cost them $1,500. They want a Quickbooks that doesn't loose features over time, ie multicurrency. They don't care about the newfangled DRM that slows down the network because they are viewing the company marketing material or a tutorial.

Lets be honest, my optometrist does not need windows to run his office. I wonder why HP started to support linux on the desktop? Could it be that that people like me no longer buy equipment that is not supported by linux even if we intend to run windows on them. When you spend hundreds of thousands on equipment and you study what you buy and do not even consider suppliers that do not support linux it starts to hurt. Not you but them. The fact of the matter is if you are running an office and you need someone soooo bad that there are no other options it means you have done a poor job as an IT professional. Phone/flash/sync/update, why? why would I ever need such sh!t? I need standards and access and I have Linux support, Mac support, FreeBSD support and Windows support. Give me any Mac and almost any phone and I can sync more in just minutes out of the box than I would be able to with an off the shelf windows box.

STOP these stupid lies. If you don't know how just say it. Any Mac of the shelf has at least bluetooth and WiFi, iCal, Address book. Thats a lot more than any Windows box that's off the shelf. Use some standards and some common sense and you have your own cloud computing and you don't even need a fixed IP and you can make it as secure as you choose. Activesync????? Does it support Mac, Linux, FreeBSD? Can it sync the whole OS? The whole disk? I have clients where there whole systems are synced over the net and could go live on their backup by a change of a DNS entry, and this solution is over 10 years old, and we don't even care what OS it runs. It's called standards. /rant

I'm not here to teach or preach but if you open your mind you will see that the only obstacle is this proprietary lock in that most people get themselves into.

How many times can you buy Hotel California from the eagles? they have more compilations than they have songs.....

You have it on tape, on LP maybe on 8 track, on CD so why do they keep releasing the same albums and expect people to buy. Most new stuff sucks and people own the old stuff. Sales are where they should be. If I don't like the music I will not buy it. Most radio stations kill POP within a couple of weeks since they over play the songs.

On another point the cost of production, all the way to the cost of distribution has dropped off the scale. To produce a CD no longer requires expensive equipment. Home computers have gotten fast enough to process recordings. Software has improved that almost any Joe with skill can create. Not to mention that the cost of marketing and distribution to billions of potential customers is almost nonexistent compared to 10 years ago.

Please the P2P explanation is just an excuse to legislate a guaranteed salary.

When you treat people as thieves they become thieves. If the album was sold for $5 and you got a pretty CD with all the artwork why would you waste time getting music on P2P? Wasting time, energy all to find out that 1 in 5 was not worth your effort. A CD costs under $1 to produce, give $1 to the artist (they make less that that per CD now), $1 for the distributor and $2 to the greedy record label.

It's not BULLSHIT. Lets make it a FREE market system and force every citizen to pay the same tax rates. Even the "MORAL" citizens.

Then we will see how menial certain jobs are. The fact that we use preferential treatment in our laws to prop up certain citizens does not mean that the janitor has a lower value than the CEO or a writer. Remove the TAX loop holes and lets make a uniform tax system.

In my experience it is rare that you will find people who achieved their position all by themselves. Most have received a hand here and there. It is easier achieving CEO status when you start off in a well to do family. Just the connections that your family established will help you climb faster.

This same rule applies to the menial tasks. If you are not connected or know influential people you may have the right degrees but may be unable to open the right opportunities. Maybe we should abolish inheritance and place job placement in a lottery.

The value of a society is in how it treats it's citizens. The idea that a person's EMPLOYMENT designates their worth is a repulsive idea to me. Unfortunately that is the direction we are headed and why we value a CEO more that the teacher who instructed the CEO. That is why we have an ACTOR of a governor signing a law that discriminates against IT (creators of p2p, mp3 DeCSS) Payback? Why just IT and not ALL overtime? The fact of the matter is that even when you remove Microsoft from the equation, Apple still is still full of themselves.

Don't get me wrong. I love their products. What I can't stand is the attitude of not cooperating with their users. Yes! Not cooperating with their users unless they absolutely have to. What users want is that their products work well together. My TV is not an "Apple" TV but it plays well with Apple products because of the standards.

Apple plays well when it needs to and is worse than MS when it can. Try updating an iPod without a credit card. Buying a gift certificate, in other words paying cash in their store, does not permit you to purchase the software. Another example is that the only true document format that was an approved standard was not supported by iWorks.

Apple is not about creating the best user experience as they claim but rather how to tie people in on APPLE technologies.

If permitted by the Apple users Apple would be 100% about control.

My phone is a Nokia, my TV is a Toshiba, My DVR a Motorola, My printer an HP but all I care about is that they all work well together. I have 2 Macs and they have trouble playing well together with multiple users, just like Windows, unlike the Linux and FreeBSD systems which have no problems coexisting. Mac and Windows have more commercial apps but they are limiting.

Just as an Apple example, iPhoto does not share it's pictures well with users on the same computer let alone on other systems. It insists on reproducing the same images across all the users or that the main user activates sharing and starts the app and leaves it running.

iTunes same thing, you need to work around these limitations in an "Apple undocumented way" in order for these applications to play well together. I really don't need 5 copies of a CD in the system so all members of the family can listen to it. When you add 5 other computers, not all Macs, media centers and such, managing music becomes a chore if you use the Apple way.

The fact of the matter is that not ONE solution will meet everyone's expectations so please stop locking the equipment not just for your users sake but for your bottom line. I will not buy a DRM or otherwise locked product irrelevant on who makes it. The iPhone is broken and the iPod is going in the same direction not because they can't be used but because they can't be used as they could be used.

I'm starting to feel that I need to change my sig to Windows and Apple FREE for over 10 years because Apple is starting to look a lot like Microsoft. They need to start caring about the users and the $ will come. As they are now the only care about $ and so the users will leave and so will the $. A short term solution.
