If we have an old car which was bought when lead gas was the standard we have the right to convert it to unleaded. Question of cost and who would wish to do it.
Now if we look at software and other copyright materials we have no rights at all.
Imagine that GM decided to sue the owner of the car under copyright law, In a sense the owner of the car is modifying the IP of GM (DESIGN).
It would make more sense if copyright law would permit you to do as you pleased provided that;
1) You were not reselling the product.
2) By your actions you were not preventing the owner from earning revenue on his/her IP.
In this case abandonware would be modifialble, and distributable.
Otherwise you would agree that you have no right to repaint a car unless you use original paint or stick CDROM's all over it and make it look line a fish. If I can copyright an idea then any idea including the construction of a material object may not be modified.
Somebody at the corporate offices probably realized that most people are not fastidious about keeping 'proof of purchase' certificates, and realized that recharging legitimate owners was a potential revenue stream.
Give me a break... some/most of these same corporations keep the waranties of every product they buy but always seem to misplace the certificates.
I've even been asked by one company if I would supply the CD's to the software that they whished to install, but were not interested in buying a copy.
Think, people have trouble understanding the concept of files and folders on their systems which do not contain that much information. Most people don't even know how to find a file which the forgot the name. This on Windows which is as simple as START>FIND>FILES AND FOLDERS and filling the contains text field.
If you want a newbie solution it should be with the documentation or within the help assuming the newbie bought the systems. If he downloaded it then the site which he downloaded from should contain links to the documentation.
I feel the biggest problem we have with computers today, is VERY POOR DOCUMENTATION!!!!! Be it on-line, printed or on CD.
You see MP3's are very popular. They take up bandwidth. When you have an ISP using deceptive marketing to gain clients you tend to have additional restrictions which in fact restrict bandwidth consumption.
What does it matter what type of file you have in your 10, 50, 100MB....etc... aloted space?
It seems you get what you pay for. So I do not feel sorry for the DJ. He (his friend) is just complaining that he didn't get his free ride.
In most locations you have only 2 possibile choices. The regulated cable co or Bell.
In both cases these monopolies have had their lines installed about 50 years ago. They are bought and paid for. And today the sell services out the wazoo in addition to the basic services. He who thinks that this is a deal must be nuts.
These CO should be devided in three covering the same area and let the competiton begin
Maybe US is not realy the land of the free. All I'm saing is that if I can listen/view a recording I can make a copy. What is so hard about that. So I copy the watermark? So what? Do you mean to tell me that people do not know a copy when they see it.
Does it stop anyone from making copies. Whats the point.
OK....Say I listen to the radio and I hear a tune that I really like. I make a copy. Now since the DJ only talks at the begining and end, I can edit this out. Now this is no fun I'm missing part of the tune.
So I say's to myself, self how can I get the complete thing without it being tracked back to me.
Ah and then a light comes on. The local video store. I get a fake ID, (not hard at all), I open account. I rent CD. Make copy.
If you remember his first film THX1138 (I think it was his first) it was a bigbrother 1984 type of film. I guess he would could alwas paly it back to remind him.
Sorry, forgot to mention. He then called the cops.
You can't break into my house because I installed a new lock which can NOT be opened without the key
And the kid leaned over and turned the handel. It seems he forgot to lock the lock.

Thank you!!!! and keep up the GREAT work.
You are right. There is a lot of complaining but hardly any thanking.
I start the apps that I need, and don't have to restart them for months.
All I care about is stability. I hate to have an app crash.

And DO NOT give me the argument of a player because they can be stolen, lost or misplaced.
And since they can be stolen lost or missplaced, they can be used to make copies.
How many would go through the trouble?
And the best one of all........
What happens if your player/system is stolen after it has been registered?
GOD! I think I'm stupid but I just DO NOT get it!!!!

AH! But we know that this would be complex for the average user so this feature would be disactivated by default.
The virus will modify the registry and it will then have free access.
Microsoft and security should not be in the same sentence.
You should be looking for the $$$$$$ in Bill's eyes.
You can have it.

Now who cares if they CAN read the watermark???
Oh no!!! I paid with my credit card.

They should track the DoS, cut off the offending system and send them a bill.
This would only work if the backbone providers would cooperate, and track the hacked/DoS systems.
Bwaaaaa Hahahahahahahahahaha
It seems there is a Windoze for everyone.
Xbox for gamers.
Win2000 Server

To think that anyone would pay $1000 for such an OLD technology is past me.
It seems to me that if you have a market of millions the cost of the OS would only be a couple of $. The cost of the media and manuels would be more.
Everyone want's to receive JUNK MAIL on behalf of friends.
