Totally wrong. The N900 runs a firefox-based browser, and ARM, and has a flash plugin out-of-the-box. Maybe that's usable (would need to check it's license), or maybe adobe will make one/license one for them.
The real solution would be for adobe+flash to die once and for all!:)
Tizen sound a lot like an Android from a usability point of view. Apps are to be programmed in javascript or something alike. Not GTK/QT like maemo/meego. I feel tizen will be more distant to gnu/linux than maemo is.
Competitive games result in more agressive behaviours, *not* violent games. Several studies have shown this.
What make you more violent: a game where you compete to grab coins/wherever first and have to compete to be faster that the rest, both kids getting mad when they're not on the lead, or a game where you shoot zombies together (the ultraviolent ones, I mean)? I think we all know the answer, and it's time to inform these politicians.
The comunicaction is probably encrypted, the game having the "public key", and server the "private key". I used quotes because it's probably not private/public-key encryption, but something rather similar. Maybe the server just needs to send the current time and some unique id of the remote host passed through a one-way function, that's validated client-side, or something. Not everything can be sniffed at network level.
In Argentina we don't usually get the latest phones, and the N900 never officially arrived (imported in the same maner as you described). The N9, however, is officially imported, sold by several carriers, and has ads on TV, which really surprises me, specially in comparison to what you say happes in Italy.
I love maemo too, and love my n900. It makes me sort of sad to think my next phone will *not* run maemo. However, people are free to use whatever they like, even if it *is* crap, locked-down, etc.
The real solution is to educate a wee bit in order for them to be able to choose a bit more wisely.
I'd value "quality" different. IMO, poor quality software is software that'll fill my disk with garbage, make the OS crash, has huge memory leaks, etc. *These* applications need to get filtered. Or at least tagged by google, and the auther informed.
Software that just "isn't good for anything", or just "not useful" should stay where it is. People should be free to distribute and use that if they like, since they're not harmful in any way.
My point was really another. I really meant to reflect that we all have stuff we don't want to share with the world, be it personal, or business, so Schmidt is really hypocrite. If he want to prove he's not, he should share those trade secrets, and all the stuff he does, with the world.
I have never heard about any of the above organizations you mention above, so they're probably *not* "most of the internet". The EFF Observatory proyect has some interesting research on this sort of information. You should check it.
The nokia n900 has 32GB of internal storage and supports SD cards of up to 16GB. I've yet to see an mp3 that supports over 48GB of storage. I believe there's a version of the nokia n9 with 64GB internal storage (not sure how much SD is supported).
US is not the same as "the world combined". Iphones aren't popular en latin america anymore. I've seen Android sell like hot chocolate here in Argentina.
I feel SO identified by this. Even though it sounds like extra-cheap psychology, this is quite accurate. Cheaters always think the other's doing the same. After all they think "why not?". Maybe it's just too feel comfortable-er with themselves.
In Argentina there's a comic, Mafalda (still running from the early nineties), where the characters treat the word "SOPA" as a profanity. Sopa actually means soup in spanish.

I find maemo superior to meego in terms of flexibility and usability, and the hardware keyboard is a must for me.

I'll go tell _average joe/jane_ to go and get AIX, and dump ubuntu+unity which they like so much because it's shiny and pretty.
And probably the same amout of piracy, maybe even less.

In that case, Schmidt, can I have access to all your files, including google's algorithm?
While it's really easy to live *without* ms software, I've found they make the best keyboards by far.
You can't add "plugin-container" to the ecuation. That's flash (most likely). Kill it with fire!
When did google LOOSE money?
Android was never even about money; it was about a platform to better push their services.
Nokia n900 plays ogg, wma, flac, and any other format I've encountered up to now.
Cheap mp3s normally just support mp3 and nothing else.

Andoid may have more market share. Remember that not one company sells Android, but many, and Android phones can cost as little as 1/3 of an Iphone.
People who store keys on their disks SHOULD be taught to use full-disk-encryption, specially in case of laptops.
Where's the exploit for maemo 5?
I feel SO identified by this.

1) It's a rolling-release distribution.
2) It's bleeding edge (so no point comparing it to debian).
3) It follows the KISS principle.
