    This. There's lots of handwringing rhetoric from politicians about the cost for treatment for conditions related to smoking but they always conveniently forget to mention that the income from taxation is at least 10 times that amount. The amount that alcohol related conditions costs compared to the tax income is a lot closer, yet they never bang on about that. Instead it is extremely rare that spirits go up in price whenever a Budget is announced so over time they become cheaper but a pack of fags gets at least quadruple the rate of inflation (CPI or RPI, whichever is greater) added on each time.

    What I've noticed in recent car ads is they are of two types: either "model may differ from that shown" for ones you can buy without being a second mortgage (then show me the one I can buy, you know, the models with the steering wheel on the correct side) or ones which you can only lease for business (fork out a lot up front, pay monthly and after the lease when you've paid enough to have actually bought the thing you still don't own it). Not interested.

  6. It has everything to do with foreign servers because that is where the data is held. This data is also protected by the laws of the country it is held in from extradition just because a foreign party (in this case the US Govt is the foreign party) wants it.

    Even if there is a subpoena, that again is irrelevant to obtaining data held in a different jurisdiction as, just like warrants, they have no legal force whatsoever outside the country of issue. If one is issued in Eire, then fine. Until then, tough shit.

  10. I'm on an unlimited data SIM only plan from Three. 40GB/month tethering and free texts as well. £12 including VAT.

    If I'm pushing a button that I think means flush I have already stood up and adjusted my clothing beforehand in order to avoid *any* possible complications from that operation. These certainly include unexpected jets of water coming from the bowl.

    You can also only develop apps for iOS on Apple machines (Hackintoshes aside), meaning you pay Apple for the hardware to develop on, pay again to be a developer of apps and give them a cut of any sales.

    For Android, you can develop on any platform that you can run the SDK on and sign up for an account to sell it. Costs nothing.

    The iRiver not playing FLAC out of the box was why I got a Rio Karma instead. It still works.

    I have a Spiritualised CD I can't rip because the drive in my laptop doesn't recognise it as being in a valid format. Plays fine in a crappy old stereo, though. It's not on any peg-legged parrot wielding sites I searched for probably that reason. I think I've still got a 20yo old IDE CD-ROM lying in a drawer somewhere that might manage it.
