Your insistence on using the word slave to categorize people who are free to live their lives how they wish is one of the stupidest and most disgusting fixations I've seen on slashdot.

Slaves have very different lives, and the historic injustice of the way the were forced to live is one of the most horrible and shameful elements in human history.

Conflating taxpaying to slavery is a vile, repugnant insult to the memory of people who were treated in this way, and trivializes the horror of what slavery really was.

And despite the nice CPU the OS architecture was still based on an schlock memory and multitasking model.

He should congratulated for the accomplishment. I am sure Facebook employees like having jobs. Now he believes he can repeat the process in other ventures and has decided that Singapore is the best place to do it from.

Everyone is assuming this is solely a tax question, however I really doubt it. With his personal net worth taxes will make no difference in how he lives. It would be very interesting to hear his reasons.

It's the natural evolution of capitalism. Just like farming became more automated and the percentage of people living on farms declined, the same process is well underway in manufacturing.

The idea that there is something wrong with a society that needs to devote perhaps 12% of its workforce to satisfying its material needs is just not right. It is profoundly liberating to have a society that can devote its energies to so many more creative endeavors.

Once you get to be a certain age you will probably, like me, find yourself with a lot of excess income, a maxed out 401K contribution and a desire to have a substantial fixed income investment component.

Actually what works best is a combination of diet and exercise. Just reducing caloric intake will be in large part compensated for by the body reducing its rate of metabolism. You will feel tired an hungry as a result. Not a pleasant situation and the reason most dieters are unsuccessful.

Exercise counters this by increasing your metabolism plus adding muscle, again increasing metabolism. Increased muscle also increases the caloric effect of exercise, both by energy expended but also by the metabolic effects of rebuilding muscle during recovery after exercise. Adding muscle also slightly increases rest metabolism, however this is not a big factor.

Then there is the fact that while you are losing weight, if you don't exercise the weight you lose will be both fat and muscle when you really just want to lose fat.
