Because at least half the comments "PC people" direct at mac users are "Dude, my (Athlon|P4) runs at 1+ GHz!", or "I've got 5 PCI slots, AGP 4x, and 6 drive bays!".
Since PC enthusiasts seem to favor quantitative comparison, mac enthusiasts are responding in kind.
Does the server OS really determine the client OS? Unless the company is very focused on only supporting a single operating system, it's more likely they would have a unix variant running on the servers and windows for the desktops.
I don't think they'll give up MS Office just to have a stable and secure web/file server.
I did enjoy Snow Crash, The Diamond Age, and Cryptonomicon, but I'm not sure I would rank him too high on the list of writers.
He seems to have read a little too much Thomas Pynchon. The only thing keeping Cryptonomicon from being a Pynchon novel is that is was a little too straight forward.

Yes Apple charges way too much for their RAM, but you CAN buy memory for other vendors with reasonable prices.
Wasn't there something like this in Stephenson's "The Diamond Age"? There was a band whose music was changed by the way the audience felt at the time.
