  1. Re:Who are they hiding this from? on Linux Centrino Driver Update · · Score: 1

"So that nobody could produce an alternative wireless card to go with a Pentium M processor or some such."

When I bought my ThinkPad, I had a clear choice of wireless cards: Intel or Cisco.

  2. Re:Tron was a cult classic to all computer geeks on Tron Special Edition On Sale January 15th · · Score: 2, Funny

Somewhere, Steve Jobs is screaming, "No, I'm Flynn/Tron!!!"

  3. Re:Apple Is Taking the First Big Step... on Interview With iMac designer, Jonathan Ive · · Score: 1

Because at least half the comments "PC people" direct at mac users are "Dude, my (Athlon|P4) runs at 1+ GHz!", or "I've got 5 PCI slots, AGP 4x, and 6 drive bays!".

Since PC enthusiasts seem to favor quantitative comparison, mac enthusiasts are responding in kind.

  4. Apple RAM on Time Canada Shows New iMac · · Score: 1

Yes Apple charges way too much for their RAM, but you CAN buy memory for other vendors with reasonable prices.

  5. "The Diamond Age" on Computer DJ Uses Biofeedback to Mix · · Score: 2, Insightful

Wasn't there something like this in Stephenson's "The Diamond Age"? There was a band whose music was changed by the way the audience felt at the time.

  6. Re:Why Win2K instead of XP? on "Linux is *the* threat," Says Microsoft · · Score: 1

Does the server OS really determine the client OS? Unless the company is very focused on only supporting a single operating system, it's more likely they would have a unix variant running on the servers and windows for the desktops.

I don't think they'll give up MS Office just to have a stable and secure web/file server.

  7. Re:Neal Stephenson on Writers Who Will Stand the Test of Time? · · Score: 1

I did enjoy Snow Crash, The Diamond Age, and Cryptonomicon, but I'm not sure I would rank him too high on the list of writers.

He seems to have read a little too much Thomas Pynchon. The only thing keeping Cryptonomicon from being a Pynchon novel is that is was a little too straight forward.
