All this endless arguing among people feeling violated becaus of what kind of "free: it is, instead od valuing what they've been lucky enough to get without paying through the nose .
Most of the original FOSS proponents were young when first proposing tis concept, and didn't realize at the tine that thje majority are grasping materialists, that are incapable of ascribing a value to someone's hard work unless they've paid top doallar for it.
I'm not simply referring to community contributed projects like Linux distros, and software , but also two very big examples are Visual Pnball and the old OSX shapeshifter themes, before they got obsoleted. I made about a dozen of those themes, and half were , in the opinion of Michael Coyle (one of the founders of resexcellence) top level. Each one took me about 45 days to create, a huge amount of tedious work, but because I gave them away, they garnered no appreciation.
And with Visual Pinball, among the most monstrous table creators are JP Salas and Uncle Willy.. Their tables are as astonishing recreations of the actual tables, easily as good as The Pinball Arcade, and in many respects better. You'd think the world (or at least Farsight) would be beating a path down to their door, but so far, the grass is growing pretty high in it.
Do you know how many episodes of Stargate that's just ruined? And how many classic Science Fiction books got trashed by that if it's true? For literature's sake , sir we MUST have black holes !
That's OK, parent was offtopic too. And hasn't the slightest clue about what Canadian Content Regulations were, or the impact that they had.
Actually, in the beginning, that was the typical response to the CCR..the radio jockey and some of the press relly dissed it. It was just us plebes that cooiuldn't get any airplay that noticed the good side. Fact is, if it weren't for the CCR, I woulda NEVER got any. I formed an indie way before indies ever got popular.. on a shoestring (called "Purple City Records" and recorded at "99 cent studios";-) Purple City, of course, was Victoria's nickname, back in the old double blotter days us kids would stare at the lights at the Empress and everything was purple for hours !..
And a couple of bands survived because of these regs, after being the second lead singer for Sweeney Todd, I doubt anyone would have taken Brian seriously, but they aired his solo album anyways because of the CCR regs, and it really broke through..you could say Brian Adams got *pretty* big..
So, basically a gun to people's heads while the other hand rifles through their pockets.
Greed. The one thing that's in truly infinite supply.
Hey it is called CCR, you see we here in the Great White North have always had red necks its called scarf burns, And we created CCR not some bunch of rockabilly yahoos from south of the Mason Dixon line..EH?
Naturally you realize that CCR is not what most people believe it to be. It is really a Canadian band that at one time consisted of the Guess Who, Terry Jacks and Edward Bear played endlessly on FM radio. The band was subtitled CCR or CANADIAN CONTENT REGULATIONS.
Nothing has changed except the only one of the bunch that was worth listening to was the Guess Who and every once in a blue moon, just for old times sake I put on a ripped copy of them in FLAC because MP3 audio is for idiots and earbuds! EAT MY SHORTS YOU HALF DEAF MORONS in the entertainment industry. GOOD MUSIC and QUALITY RIPS STILL EXIST REGARDLESS OF CCR or the idiots of today that try to kill music for the listener. NOW GOOD NIGHT AND GO TO HELL WHERE YOU BELONG. SONY, CCR, RIAA, CRIA and the other idiots that are trying to kill music you will loose PERIOD. BARF CHUNDER PUKE FART, HAND ME a shotgun and that big fat reefer, I think I need a toak of some good stuff man.
Guess you were in a Rush to eat yer BTO sandwich, although I know the guvermint here thinks they can Make Me Do Anything You Want, but the CCR band had a few more Rocker boxes in that list..
You *do* know that the IMF introduced these "austerity measures" to collapse the Greek economy, right? Just like they're doing it to collapse the others with "austerity measures"
It's all based on "neo-classical" economics. the main goal of which is to introduce a global currency market. They (the fed) have already swiped all the gold from these countries that relied on them to keep it safe. That prevents any countries from trying to create a currency based on a gold standard. Now that that's done, all they have to do is bankupt the smaller countrires such as yours, and then go to the bigger ones such as Spain, Portugal, and Germany etc, Only China, Russia, and, believe it or not, Iceland, stand in the way.
This ain't yer granny's economics 101, that's for sure!
He should have gotten a nobel for literature instead of a jail term.. Those sites never check their facts. "proof of noahs flood by drowned dinosaur !" "engraved rock proved with carbon 14!" etc etc.. I have a pastor ('Whaaat?') that I check in with often, and I really like him, but he never checks out his stories, and it's seriously affecting his credibility..
Some knowingly misrepresent these facts, not caring, as long as it supports their stories, and these are the worst...
In primordial times, when I was young, not all of the XY-enabled drove cars to impress the girls. I drove my crappy Chevy because it was the only way to reach the girls and mingle with them in the first place. I suppose today's young whippersnappers just Uber everywhere. Either that, or the girls have retreated so far into third-wave feminism that the boys have discovered second-wave mother's basement.
Most of us were that way. There was always a "Bruce" or a "Billy-Bob" with a reuilt GTO or '55 Chev in the crowd that did do that, however.! However, they didn't *nessecarily* galways get -more- women.. sometimes just the best looker in the crowd..
Your post motivated me to get up from my couch in the basement and go find my bowl, which I had previously obfuscated under a piece of detriment to avoid plain view.
I know that Microsoft's secret wish has always been to become Apple (or at least Bill Gates's secret wish!) but this is too much. Now that Apple has been pushing new OSs slam bang one after another, pleeze M$ don't copy that BS.. The very best thing I liked about Microsoft was their long long support timeline for their operathing systems, as opposed to instant "trashability" from Apple.. Hell, I barely install a version of OSX and by the time I've rebooted it's unsupported!
I so used to like Apple, but now I feel just terribly betrayed. As in intentionally, by them. I was planning to switch to M$, as I like Windows 7, but if they're going to throw that into the dumpster so soon, then it looks like it's Android OS or something similar. Linux distros are still a mess, sorry. I would have liked to go back to QNX (been a follower of it for 6 or 7 years already) but since BB has it I have no idea what they're going to do to it.... and it never picked up on the importance of Multi Media.
BeOS never survived. What a bloody shame.. Haiku is just too underground to ever be a serious alternative. BSD alternatives don't really wxist. If there was one that could run Apple applications I'd be thrilled.. but...
Does anyone have a suggestion?
Wow. Freeman Dyson. Released books right between when Science Fiction, as written book literature, became nearly extinct, and when TV jumped onto the "Sci-Fi" bandwagon. A dry period indeed. When libraries were throwing into the recycle bins books like first editions of Asimov's "Foundation Trilogy" ('Scuse me while i hold back the tears!).
Then, suddenly, we got a whole new cadre of "Sci-Fi" fans.. (Isaac who?") from deeply reflective series like "Duck Rogers in the 25th century", and OMFG "Battlestore Galactica". and suddenly all these young folks were combing the recycle bins for those Isaac Asimov first editions. Er.. not. That was us older folks.;-(.. "Isaac who?" "what you want books for anyways? The tubes got 'neat' stuff on it now... Man you should watch "V"
That's what I am reminded of when I think of Freeman Dyson...
Well, certainly Intel isn't concerned with being associated with ineffective bloatware, if they're so proudly putting their name on the worst AV out there! And , it really IS...
Well, that was the headline in my "slashback" mailing.. Bloody lie! It was the *lack* of any thrigger needed, that was found. Just why do the new editors feel it necessary to resort to Nat'l Enquirer style captions these days? I thought there was suopposed to be "honor among geeks"...
...At least I think so. Shaped like a ball with a hemispherical (yes like a Chrysler;-) piston head and made out of diamond hard material. I don't know what happened to them, however.
Had me thinking though.. and ones that could create a pressure wave might not work at high RPMs , due to the time required to build up the air cushion. Since they haven't built a working model, never mind prototype, I guess they haven't cracked that egg yet.
Why not revisit rotary if they're going to waste all their time on the ICE? OTOH, I'm a garage junkie from the 60s and I love the smell of gasoline, and the best days of my life were spent doing things like helping to install a chromed GMC 6/71 blower on a hemi in a loud hot garage.
Yet... Even *I've* gone electric. Mind you, I've disconnected the governor and installed plus size Tesla batteries on a wee li'l scooter;-)
That may be so, but what this amounts to is closing a door we just managed to open for small operations. Here we go again, only ops with access to big business resources will typically be able to meet these proposed criteria. If you had doubt that big business interests drive our legislation, this should help resolve those doubts. Small operations can pose a huge threat because they are, at times, considerably quicker off the mark than your average corporation with its bean counters, lawyers, middle management, reviews, and HR making sure you only get the most mediocre employees possible.
This is mommy government at its typical get-in-the-way pursuits. The problem is, aside from complaining in fora like this one, there isn't much we can do about it unless some interested party's got deeper pockets than the corporations. Not too likely, seems to me.
Shame that mod points end at 5. If I had any ATM I'd forego my previous comment to bump this up to 6 . I am so sick of the "fix it 'cuz it ain't broken" mentality in legislators that the aforementioned "Big Business resources" take such effective advantage of.
"A recent paper by doccus on/. summarized that HR managers who based their hiring practices on unsupported studies that were soon countered tended to get fired far more quickly ";-)
Look, Chinese *people* are definitely our friends, but in a warfare situation, it's definitely going to be China VS the "West". And both the US defence dept, and the Chinese defence dept kows this. So, knowing this, as.. 1) The Chinese, could you pass up placing a "bug" aka "gremlin" in the supplied parts, and 2) The US: are you F#$$%^^& NUTS?
Well, at 39.9 Kg, i would suggest it's pretty much defying the gravitational constancy rules ;-)

Hey who donated the cat anyways? I wouldn't let them use mine...
Well, if we all get clean enough, then Soylent *can* eventually be "made out of people". But ids that the "green", or the "yellow"?

Bureaucrats need jobs because their entire sense of self worth depends on being given a place to drive to and sit at.
Um, shouldn't that be "entire sense of self worth depends on being given a PEON to drive OVER and sHit ON" ?
"A recent paper by doccus on /. summarized that HR managers who based their hiring practices on unsupported studies that were soon countered tended to get fired far more quickly " ;-)
It's "very different TO", you stupid American... How did I know you were American?
No, that's "SO different to" You stupid AC (and I think I'll join the fold there..)
..or "that different from", which is in fact the best correction.. and I'll take the high road here, in opposition to the first AC respondant..
