    Those of you wondering why they don't just use a vacuum inside the drive. Hard drive heads ride on a cusion of air (or in this case, a gas of some kind) so that they don't crash against the drive.

    In fact, that WAS my first thought! Thanks for clearing that up... Now lets see how many other /.ers bothered to read your comment, and ask the same question ;-)

    `I had quite severe asperger's when i was a child, and we lived on a diet of, essentially, NO protien.. our average source pf protein each night eqwualles perhaps 2 meatballs worth, and potatos potatos potatos for the rest.. ~After leaving home I discovered 2 things, high protein diets improved my ability to function in the real world, and i would never be a competitive cyclist as I could not , ever, not once, experience the "Athletes high" , that is , the necessary release of endorphins, To this day I am always racked in pain, and naturally have to resort to exogenous solutions.. Is what I have just read implying a connection between all these (previously seemingly disparate) symptoms? Anyone?

    Aren't repeated letters to a manufacturer, that remain ignored, evidence of "ignoring the problem"? As far a the"patch cyle" goes, can they really get away with.. "it's only caused infected or hijacked PCs for a third of a year, that's neither s a significant amount ,nor our responsibility .. That appears how this played out, to me,...

    It may have something to do with the fact that they get $50 per day, including expenses?......

    And when you eventually go to court for something, do you honestly want the jury to be there for the money?

    My answer is a resounding YES! Since they do not choose to carry out jury duty (it is foist upon them) they cannot simply , and would likely not say, anyways "It's not enough I won't go" or "wow.. I should sign up for lots of them look how good the money is"... However, if the money is too low, they may want to finish with JD as soon as possible, (perhaps due to bills adding up in the meantime etc) and this simply would not be an issue for those who were fairly compensated. The $50 a day was calculated way back in times that that was what the average American was earning.. a very long time ago...

    So this is the solution.. if you ever have news corporations hijack your clip and do a DMCA claim afterwards.. simply go to the cops and insist on charges (but make sure you are accompanied by a lawyer so they don't arrest you instead, especially if you are .. er.. 'dark skinned')

    Yup, my cat just "accidentally" killed a mouse. She felt "bad" about it. Mouse is still dead. And my cat has better morals than the majority of corporations.. especially those that feel justified in using automatic takedown notices.. They do NOT care about the impact of their corporate decisions, on the average joe, as long as it helps the bottom line...

    It's the lack of repercussions that is the main reason this issue exists,, I would LOVE to see penalties for "bearing false witness".. and hey, wasn't that one of the 12 commandments? How far we have fallen ;-(

    An expert in "practical" ethics? Wudda mealy mouthful.. So how does that work anyways? Get rid of anything that might be misconstrued as "real" ethics (such as do no murder, do not bear false witness, do not touch your neighbor's ass (even if she is pretty)) , and 'invent' your own? So how does making up your *own* ethics deserve a degree? And how does one become an 'expert' at making up their own rules? As Bugs said (and he's as good an 'expert' as anyone else) Wudda Maroon...

    Every country with anything more advanced than a mule has an eye out for a weak link. Manning was that link. He felt he was doing the right thing and wanted to share this information in hopes to curb further actions. Now being a naive kid in the military if Wikileaks was not available, who is to say another country wouldn't have befriended him and honed his information gathering to much more sensitive data?

    It used to be how they (especially the Soviet Union) got their spies..Many a spy was roped in, not for the money, but because they had been somehow fooled into thinking they were doing the "right thing" for the world. Now that communism appears to be slowly re-entering Russian politics, I wonder if there'll be a return to that..

    Actually, Jesuits ARE Catholic ;-) But anyways, apparently the Catholic church says it's OK to accept evolution, in principle, as it does NOT contradict the Bible.. and somehow, I have a lot more faith in the judgement of theologians that have spent their life studying scripture, than a Kentuckian who "done leaned" his "scriptire" at Mommy and Daddy's knees....

    I just checked.. I's because it's a "one day" course, where they teach the basics of coding.. whatever you manages to take away after the day is over, is what you have been able to "learn" in a day ;-)

    Actually, I was surprised that you had to go to the lengths you did to state your point here, on /. I would have thought that the fact that France, like Greece and Spain, had to come begging with "hat in hand" to it's EEC overlords, due to a "minor financial imbalance" would make it obvious what the business climate in these countries is like. After all, they didn't get there (in the soup) for no reason at all!

    Sadly.. even the "submissions" are often word for word pulls off of another writers article.. When I was in elementary school I would have received a failing grade for not even *attempting* to reword a certain passage.. A good example is yesterday's "Do Epic Shit" submission (except, just like the original author, Shit was written S**t).. Maybe my old elementary teacher should grade some of the submitters... (if he's still alive !)
