I repaired an audio track that way.. we had several hundred sub masters where you only had 1 second snippets of audio.. the nasty part of the job was syncing 200 t all the tracks up.... all 290 or so!!!. way before DAW became prevalent.. in fact the only engineers I knew that used a computer in the studio what was left of the beach boys, and Mr Zappa;-(.. Luckily all the pieces lined up.. but because all the reels had damage in different parts from the rest, we succeeded . Much the same as my "tape restore" situathion? I am not any kind of expert on genetics, so there could be an obvious reason why not that I am not aware of , but I am curious... Cheers frum Doc!
These people have self powered video cameras that can survive a hurricane.. You might want to look up storm chasers on YT and contact one of them if they know where you can find this kind of camera. HTH
When is this ruling due..? It will bankrupt the entire used record industry, and cause economic chaos when implemented in all the other markets.. Ebay would collapse dragging down the US economy so fast that it would cause a recession so severe that i can't even describe it , as nobody would believe it until they experienced it for themselves.. I dearly hope that these judges have considered the ramifications of this judgement, on their own friends an family also..
I think a better question is will "old style flatscreen TVs" live forever..as desktop PCs and Macs, whatever, are becoming all around entertainment units and workhorses both.. And I sure get no fun typing on these "virtual" Keyboards'...the one I am using now with my iMac has a 1/8 " travel. I got rid of that horrible flat one that macs come with.. And really, can any of you say you'd EVER prefer using an ipad or notebook for graphics work? I use my Mac for Mmusic, TV, Graphics, as a DAW, and just general puttering around at home, where I don't have to squint at a tiny screen or rub all over the screen of a tablet, which always seems to be at a poor angle for a touchscreen interface.. No, despite the fact that we always hear the desktop's eulogy sounded out, i think they all jumped the gun on that one...
When we were told about computers, in the 60s, they were still bigger than a mack truck.. and their version of "mini" computer would boggle the mind. and that programming was a thankless task.. using tape reels and punchcards.. the quote I remember the clearest from the teacher was you'll likely never work on a computer in your lifetimes, but in a few hundred years they'll probably be as small as your Television set;-) HYUK!!
"are free to do whatever you want, as long as you don't smoke? Boy o boy the average american's definition of freedom has sure changed..
Since "Having a job" is essential to buy food, the obvious message being sent is quit smoking or you'll starve to death, or perhaps freeze to death sleeping in the streets.. We don't care, as long as we get our law passed.. human dignity and rights is an outdated concept in these timed where even your 101 year old mother and your closest friend and relatives,, Even baby junior could have bomb in his milk bottle.....
Times might be hard for local Governments these days, but the estimated 80 Bilion dollars lost could easily be recovered by s tax on the Wealthiest 1%..
Or Gut SS for those who can afford it, and just let then know.. Ain't capitalism grand.. you never even have to see the corpses of the people you've stepped on during the climb up
So Woz wants to move to Australia? I have lots of friends there, and here is what THEY say:
OK I'm NOT Trolling, but Ill be inflammatory.. Aussies know ALL about "inflammatory" , after all..want "Inflammation"? you have more poisonous snakes , and bugs and flies and sea creatures like deadly jellyfish...and I'm not even going to get into the cuddly Koala bear's EVIL twin,, the "Drop Bear".. overall, they have more deadly and vicious speciesin one square mile , than we in Canada have in out whole country.. and, I mean, even our so-called "vicious" creatures are just big pussycats.. I spent my first 6 years of klife with a cougar, in our house.. it was an albino cougar, so nobody noticed except for the size, but I was the safest kid in the neighborhood.. that cat worshiped me and would not EVER let anything happen to me.. I had photos where i could barely put my arm over her back at 4 years old.. the neighbors finally insisted on her being "put down" as she was eating all their chickens.. We have bears too.. a buddy on the local reserve has one (Black Bear) he raised fron an abandoned cub in his back yard that I used to play fetch with.. These are no different in behavior and intelligence than very big dogs. when raised by humans.. and just as affectionate.. only when they jump on you to lick you for saying hello, they just weigh more....
I doubt, tough you could EVER domesticate the satanic equivalent of the cute fuzzy Koala.. the "Drop Bear".. I have a picture that pretty much sez it all, if only I could attach it..
Australia is the land of animal traps,, OK, It (at least Western Aus) will survive those 3 mile tsunamis, but so will Alberta to Manitoba.. the Canadian shield is SOLID as rock;-) and way high above sea level.. Australia is a death trap
So OK the Q & A is long past, but I remember what you used to be like.. you still religiously read the/. columns.. so I have a question.. I built one of those kit computers too, from popular mechanics.. and also took a course.. stupid blinking lights.. I simply couldn't figure out how that could EVER become popular.. especially since I had the option in my course to build an (audio) amplifier instead, which I chose.. after all as a guitarist, natch I tried to pick that,, but the teacher claimed he had run out of parts fior that option.. and I had to build a so called "computer".. that is, a system with NO monitor, 10 stupid blinking lights, and no access to any monitor.. i remember using a 16 K chip..
How in gods name did you think beyond this myopic mentality in the early '70s.. I sure couldn't, and I thought that I was "ripped off" in college by being forced to build a "fancy calculator".. I mean , a brand spankin new TI calculator was only $100, and our fees for parts was 300$.. so wuzzup?
And I no longer will accept low paying "support" jobs because I am on blood pressure pills and it makes them ineffective.. I still *try* to help my friends though , god help me..but my last call just cut the cord.. A "log in " issue.. Why The F**K are people SOOO stioopiud when it comes to logging into accounts they have set up?
Doesn't EVERYONE know what a "password" is? and a "login ID" holy shit;.. I like my friends (i mean that's why they're my friends) but mix a few drinks and a computer (especially a Mac!) and they get REAL stupid.. I know.. Macs are "easier" to user for you and me, but not *these People*.. I don't want to kill any of my friends..( I loathe prison showers;-).. so WHAT have any of y'all done in the same place????
Fully half of my former school years friends have died while riding their bicycles. All were wearing helmets, and two (but certainly one) of the deaths may have actually been caused, or at least aggravated, by the wearing of a` helmet.
Just how a helmet helps bicyclists, who rarely ride these things at 50 MPH, unlike motorcyclists, is questionable,Low speed bicycle accidents rarely entail head injury. `I used to race bicycles throughout my teen years and had a fair number of wipeouts.. The damage was always to my legs, hip, arms, and hands..
The real problem is that I'm an adult and I can decide for myself whether or not I will wear a helmet. The government doesn't need to make this decision for me.
Then you are certainly not representative of the typical vociferous American with "I stubbed my toe on the chair.. so please regulate chairs from now on".. That's the cause of this oppressive "Nanny" state we live in...
And think.. although *most* people on/. clearly get it, there's still a few shills out there. so LOOK.. Musicians except for the top 5 percent don't now, and NEVER HAVE made money from records, except for a few hundred bucks per.. I started playing in the music biz *40 years ago* so i think I have seen enough examples, thank you.. The problem is those people who put out tracks that are incapable of repeating these live.. such as tone deaf teenybopper "chanteuses" that can't actually sing without digital correction, or one finger keyboardists that record one bar per hour. on some digital program..
The whole point of recording USED to be as publicity for performances.. until , basically, Elvis and his 50 million records, where suddenly even at, say, a penny each.. he done good.. We don't all sell 50 million records, but the few ones that do have plenty funds for lobbying.. y'think?
You are correct, but the government *does* have blame here.. deregulation made all that sloppiness and fraud *much* easier to get away with.. Otherwise It is an accurate summary, and I am glad someone has encapsulated it here. I also hope that couple get a REALLY good settlement from BOA.. although I have a bad feeling BOA will try to drag this out for years.
`Well, if the interest rates hadn't been slashed in the first place.. that's what screwed the average Joes.... It wasn't just the banks.. almost everyone with a mutual fund had some of these toxic CDOs.. My dad lost 1/3 of his life savings.. he used to invest in safe term deposits, but when the interest rates collapsed, he could no longer pay even the smallest bills off of the pittance 1 to 2 percent interest he receiuved.. Like many seniers, he was living partially off the interest of his savings. When he had to find a better investment., every mutuals he was offered had a percentage of these toxic assets..
Yes, but likely pressure from shareholders forced their hand.. Previously a "good" stock, was one that ~*kept* it's value over the years, and gave a good return. These days, however, the market's greed has pushed everyone to think that if a stock isn't continually climbing (ie.. the banks or any other public company, aren't posting "record profits" every single quarter) than the stock is a failure and dump it.. this is , of course , unsustainable.
I had thought of that.. and figured I had better air out the room before going into it.. Hadn't figured on the moisture though.. Also considered a heat exchange system, but it would be inordinately complicated to build.. I had thought copper tubing along one wall, and exiting outdoors.. but it would require several hundred feet of tubing, and that might exert too much back pressure to the heat exhaust system, lowering the efficiency of the propane heater.. Nonetheless.. I wish there was some way to recapture all that wasted heat, as the exhaust from that outlet is scalding hot...
IMHO, the provinces and the Fed are *equally* irresponsible... this (Canada) is a *horrible* country to get seriously sick in.. at least in the states i=f you have the bux you can get fixed.. here.. er.. no.. I know.. I have serious health issues right now...
Aren't those things kind of like satanic koalas..like a koala possessed by "chuckie"? I saw a pic once of one of those things and i swear it looked just like a possessed Koala Bear
Interesting thread, especially as I'm now dealing with an issue along these lines. I am moving into a trailer with propane heat.. when I turn on the heat, I have noticed that there's an exhaust outlet on the outside of the trailer, which blows out VERY Hot (!) air.. Apparently this is normal.. even above the outlet it even has a warning sticker that says "caution.. Hot Air" I, for the life of me , CANNOT figure out why such a ludicrous wate of energy exists, and was thinking of piping it into my storage shed in the winter, to keep everything from freezing... I just can't understand why trailers propane furnaces pipe out all this hot air to the outside....
But aren't gamma rays light also? In fact, light from the sun is only safe because of the low intensity when it reaches us 95 million miles away... just 40 million miles closer, and we'd find out that light is, indeed very dangerous..
Actually, er.. there *is* one way out.. although i am guessing it wouldn't be a very popular move, to the top 1% (assuming that only 1% of the population are seriously wealthy, which I am not sure about).. and that is to outlaw offshore accounts and tax shelters.. It's not simply these unpaid taxes that these super-rich are guilty of, but worse, is that they keep taking multiple billions out of circulation , effectively choking the economy...
I repaired an audio track that way.. we had several hundred sub masters where you only had 1 second snippets of audio.. the nasty part of the job was syncing 200 t all the tracks up.... all 290 or so!!!. way before DAW became prevalent.. in fact the only engineers I knew that used a computer in the studio what was left of the beach boys, and Mr Zappa ;-(.. Ahh.. that old carcass being dug up again..but "Will it blend?" Sorry.. i couldn't pass this one up... ;-)
