    1) Under a gold standard, the (very high) volatility of gold is imposed on the general price level, making it that much harder to plan economic activity, and magnifying negative events.
    Dude what are you talking about, gold is not volatile--it's a metal, and highly inert one, at that.

    Bruce complained that Python3K is not modular enough. Guido, always the pragmatist, and having just watched Reservoir Dogs, retorted that anyone who wants a modular language should get his head examined.

    Some guy on the mailing list proposed a new and better syntax, but Guido declined to merge it; he explained that he doesn't trust the new guy as much as Bob, whose Context-Free Syntax (CFS) is going into the next development version (odd-numbered, of course).

    Also, given random connection pairs, and uniform distribution in some 2d area, one can show the capacity across a line bisecting the area is more or less proportional to 1/sqrt(n). This is probably pretty realistic, unfortunately.

    I so wish I could nominate localroger's (Roger Williams I think) stories he posted at kuro5hin... his Revelation Passages series is the single best, most imaginative and logically consistent story I've ever read; truly good SF! Highly recommended: Revelation Passage.
