I thought free speech was a "right"...not just a guarantee. Sounds like a shifting paradigm.:) It's kind of scary to see how people refer to things which are so fundamental to our daily lives. Almost scary.
It can allow people who are afraid of Linux to use it without the worry of losing existing data, partitioning, etc. Something to help a windows user realize what they are actually missing. Something that will let windows users use a FULL EXT2 Linux system, without going through any hassle and get up and running quickly. You might even call it a Training Linux. One thing that there is NONE of out there, is a Linux distro for windows users, to actually aid in the Migration to Linux.
Here Here!I'm glad to see that someone has intelligence enough to say these things. I only wish I could've been the one posting it. I Feel that a company such as RH and Debian, are doing the right thing. They have a real working ethic about the way Linux is supposed to be, but are applying it to a business model. This is changing the face of many things, including other businesses practices. I think this is a good thing. One should NEVER say that Debian, RH, or even Suse is anything like MS. I agree that bad business is bad business, but as we have seen with MS, what goes around, comes around. We must unite, stop worrying about which distro is better, and try to make all distro's better with our utilities, apps, pathes, and our attitudes towards the goals that linux is attempting to acheive. Becoming a useable OS (note: i did not say distrobution) while maintaining the Free software model. It takes patience, tolerance, and honesty to work with so many thousands of other people in the world. Why spend time squabbling over what distro is the best. GPL has no distro it subscribes to. Keep it free! - JaqBOT
Well, I look at it this way. When Amiga came out, it could do WAY much more, and TRUE multitasking at VERY impresive speeds that x86's could Never Reach. As long as the standard holds true, and the architecture works, the amiga will ALWAYS be something special. - Jaq
If you notice they say something like 5.90 for s/h Sales tax will be added in if you live in ca, tx, ut, az, ga, ny. they gotta make money off this thing somehow, and they might just be smart enough to use the/. effect to do it.:) JaqBOT
Why not encrypt everything and have the courts issue warrants for keys when it is deemed necessary? Actually I quite agree. At least it would stop the argument, or make it not as arguable:) JaqBot
The gov't has no more the right to read a written letter in a sealed envelope as does my next door neighbor. >Actually, yes, they do. Letters from husbands >to mistresses have been drudged up througout the history of Civil Court Proceedings. Keep in mind, these letters were not simply intercepted while going through the mail, unless previous proof existed saying there was reason to believe these actions might be going on. That I can understand. The gov't has a habit of not telling people what it's doing. This is where my statement stems from. --JaqBot
It's not a matter of what's good, it's a matter of greed and insecurity on the behalf of the gov't. They know information is important to the advancement of careers, lives, human intelligence, and if they can corner the market on it, they can control it. Anything I've ever seen the Gov't. do is always a matter of control, from speed limits to J-Walking. It's a matter of perspective and the gov't insists it is always right. Bear in mind that there are people in the gov't who actually think crypto is not just a bad thing, it is wrong. This is the root of most of our troubles in this country. Our officials should not be deciding what is bad and good, moral/imoral, but rather if it is important enough to the people that it is worth defending because the People demand it is right. Politicians, lawyers, and policemen, they are not in it for the 'other' they are doing it for 'self'. I know of no lawyer or politician, in our day and age, who has actually made a real sacrifice defending what the PEOPLE believe is right, as a whole. I'm not talking about kids killing each other in school, or gun control, or anything like that. Those issues are spikes in the graph of human development and which must be explained, tolerated, and ultimately fixed. Lest not we forget those who came before us and fought against the very gov't we are under today. Crypto is an issue that should be a simple RIGHT of the people because the people, you and I...all of us... decide it should be so. This simple fact makes a simple decision into an issue that inflames people, distorts the truth, and causes us not to think as clearly as we should about something that should be our right. The right to protect one's self from prying eyes, no matter WHO's eyes they are. The gov't has no more the right to read a written letter in a sealed envelope as does my next door neighbor. Thus is the way crypto should be treated, like an electronic envelope to keep prying eyes from invading our privacy. I'll get off my soapbox now, but I hope you all do read this and take it to heart. I'm sure some of my words will be misconstrued and if I said something in a not so good way, I apologize. But these things I speak of seem pretty simple to me. Thankyou JaqBot
How dumb do people think virus writers are? A single transgenopolymorph properly instructed would take out almost anything it came in contact with. Who is this guy to think it isn't possible? Almost nothing upsets me as much as some ubercrackwhore that thinks mixing a stew or adding crackers to it, automatically makes it soup.
The main reason some do not like Kde is simple. It is too reminiscent of the interface some of us used to use and had been scorned so many times by. Gnome feels and looks much less like that other os than does kde. I for one am not at all comfortable using it because of this simple fact.
Seems as though nintendo corp is afraid of MAKING even MORE money. If THEY offered their OWN emulator, for a VERY modest price, say 30Bucks, that someone could actually Attatch to their computer, IE, a two part system. One half software, the otherhalf Hardware to interface the game cartridge with the computer, what would the big deal be? How can Nintendo stand in the face of change, the internet, and all the community stands for and say that we are actually HURTING their business. They got their 200bucks outta me for Zelda and the NES. So what are they complaining about.
Ooh..and one more thing...How does intellectual property have anything to do with emulation???
George Lucas has been playing both sides, the greedy and the rebelious. Some interviews show him as the benevolent Rebel who just wants to make his own movies and make them his way. And then there is George the Greedy, who will allow NO one to make toys, use the SW's name, or anything at all to do with starwars, unless a fee is paid. If you notice some interesting facts, George now OWNS lock, stock, and barrel, the first 3 Star Wars Movies. FOX has renounced ALL ownership of the movie rights to the first three films. Which George do we believe? And more importantly, which George do we believe in.
I think you're one liner sums up this whole mess best of all. I think this applies to both sides of the story, the students who did the deed and the faculties in all schools everywhere who are persecuting those of us who dare to be ourselves and not just please our parents, teachers, whoever.
Micro$haft Doesn't Deserve Sympathy This time. Not even about warez or any other thing, no one has any right to say they HAVE the right to see what you are doing. The EULA, does in no way say you will be monitored or subject to. As well it says in no way that any personal information or property will be tagged, tracked, etc. Micosoft has no right to do that, whether you want to buy their software or not.

But That's the American way isn't it? :) Everyone is a helpless boob! Aren't we?

I thought that the supreme court ruled 'domain sitting' illegal? What a law abiding netizen.
