Really makes me wonder how many games used only a fraction of the cartridges total space. On one hand you have a lot of really easy to beat, small games and then you have games like FF3 and ChronoTrigger, which takes a really long time to beat.

I had a friend come into a lot of money about 6 months ago, and he went on ebay and bought just about every known console system in existence plus about 10 games for each. He had a party one night and we just sat around playing old school games till the sun came up, was pretty dope. He even had a NeoGeoCD and a Wonderswan.

They actually gave it to him, but it was completely stripped. No engines or electronics, and obviously no weaponry. It was basically a metal shell in the shape of a harrier, and he also had to sign something saying he would keep it at a local airfield. I'm almost sure he ended up selling it for scrap metal.

You're missing the point. The point is if I develop a piece of software and set the price, that's what you pay. It's not up to you to decide if the price is fair or not, it's my software, I made it. You don't like it, buy a similar product from another company.

That's pretty ignorant, man. Those bits might've taken a company 2 years and 10 million dollars to develop. You seem to think the entire cost of a software manufacturer is whatever printing the cd and jewel case cost them.

Their are a TON of ways you can steal without it being a physical good. If I hack a university and enroll myself classes, free of charge, I would consider that stealing.

  12. Re:The Economics Of Warez on Talk To a Convicted Warez Guy · · Score: 1

I fail to see a justification in stealing something becuase you feel the price is too high. Only in this industry does that mode of thinking seem to carry any weight. I can't afford a Ferrari, but I don't steal one and tell myself it's ok because it was too expensive in the first place.

I blame lazy/inefficient programming for todays ever increasing processor demands. A good example would be Jedi Knight 2. On a my P3-800 with 256mb of ram and a geforce 2 ti it ran like ass anytime there were more than 3 guys running around or if I was in a big room. Really pissed me off. And that was at 800x600, I had to turn it down from 1024x768 because it was unplayable.

2 nights ago I downloaded UT2K3. I thought it was going to be worse than JK2. So I turn off all the effects, runs fine. Start turning settings up. 800x600 with medium effects runs fine. So I go to 1024x768 with full effects. Runs beautifully. Dropped 10 bots in, no drop in performance. I would've put more in but they were owning me.

Kind of off-topic, I know, but it really opened my eyes to what programmers can do if they honestly care about the their public and put good programming techniques to work.
