Agreed. You can also run the machine in a non-persistence mode so that nothing is written to the disk at all while in use. Just periodically fire it up in a persistent state to apply important security updates etc for their safety. Unless they are savvy they won't even know they are running in a VM.
Blender is an awesome tool that just gets better by the day. Defeatists won't like it because it takes effort to learn how to use it. However once you do, you'll be addicted and basically only be limited by your imagination and your willingness to learn more. It is such a powerful tool that even after using it for almost 4 years now I still learn new abilities and hack gems outside of the new stuff that is added all the time.
I can't thank the blender devs enough. Keep up the good work and don't let the haters get you down. Our community is better off without people who don't contribute more than insults and complaints. Which reminds me, time to make another donation. I now make a living doing something I actually enjoy because of blender.
Just build a new single system and virtualize the two components of the previous system. He won't have to learn how to use it, you know it works for what he needs and considering you are emulating such old hardware, can be done on cheap modern hardware. Just get a low end core 2 duo with VT, and install Ubuntu and kvm virtualization. You could probably get a bare bones system for the same price as two new Microsoft licenses. Spend the real money on a big display for the old man instead!
Set your swap up in a logical volume. You can always make it larger at some future date if you actually needed it. 99% percent of people won't if you just keep it one to one. Heck, above 4GB I'd start going half. The reason you don't want a large swap is that it takes a long time to write and/or read 8+ GB of data off of a standard hard drive. If you are using that much swap and often, you'd be much better served increasing your system memory. Swapping in general should be avoided because of its high cost, and should just be a safety net for those times you exceed system memory. If you are always exceeding system memory, then again, increase your system memory. IMHO anyway.
I'm glad we are in agreement. And believe me, if/when they catch the people involved, they will be made examples of. I guess we are going to see just how Anonymous they really are. =P
Regarding separation of work/personal email. It shouldn't have to be spelled out for people. I won't say that I have never sent an email of a more personal correspondence from work. But if say I wanted to have a rendezvous with my wife because I found out the grandparents were taking the kids off our hands, and we had the evening to ourselves, I wouldn't do it through work email. It is unfortunate that most adults have a problem separating what is appropriate and innocent from what is salacious. That said, I somehow doubt she was using this email address for anything personally salacious. And yes, I agree email is incredibly insecure. I'm sure its no accident that email is primarily stored and transferred unencrypted to this day. (where's my tinfoil hat...hehe)
Have a good one and thanks for the respectful reply.
"Well, dammit, she shouldn't have a private email account at work! IMPEACH!"
No I believe my point was she shouldn't be conducting government business through a non-government email because of the inherent risks. This should be the real story. Had the hackers not exposed their access and instead sent out 'official' emails that harmed her, her family or her constituent,s what would be your inflammatory rhetoric then?
BTW, I don't condone breaking into anyones email system. It is not only against the law, but is also a violation of personal privacy. Yet another reason to not conduct public business on a system that might expose any private correspondence through government, judicial or hacker intervention and/or action.
1. Your an idiot. 2. Your an idiot. 3. And you know the person who hacked the account was on the 'left' how? Be sure to describe in detail so the FBI and Secret Service have a good starting point for their investigation when they come visit you.
This seems to spell out why, besides being able to avoid public oversight, someone shouldn't be using private email accounts to conduct government business. Shouldn't the bigger question be, why was she using a private email, accessible from any public network, that more easily exposed the people of Alaska, as well as herself, to hackers?
Wow has become incredibly stale. I just let my account expire this month because there was nothing fun to do. The instanced PvP is just a grind in a different form and pretty weak at that. Granted all these are my opinions. Myself, I am giving Warhammer a run. I know they also released this before it was ready, but at least its new. And in all my years of MMO, Camelot had the most fun PvP scenarios with its siege warfare. I was in the Warhammer open beta and I can say they have kept with Camelots good traits. (although I wish there were 3 sides...supposedly it comes down to story line...boo..but I digress...hehe) Anyway, I hope WoW's expansions lives up to its acclaim, because if it doesn't, when the rest of you decide to check out Warhammer, my toon will be fighting in the upper tier realm vs. realm... =P
I should end this by stating I had tons of fun in WoW when it first came out. Blizzard had managed to fix so many things that were wrong with fantasy MMO's, eliminating much of the stuff that was just a time waster. Sadly, I think they are falling into this trap now just to keep subscribers. Once gameplay starts to suffer for the bottom line, thats when I start to get bored, and fast. Again, IMHO.
Agreed. But considering they respect the broadcast flag to not record TV shows, I can see a similar arrangement for any HD receivers. Can anyone verify? Does HD radio have such a flag in its standards?
I was only trying to make the point that this detection makes this type of thing possible. I apologize for not being clear on my first post.
I can tell you on my Vista machine it knows whether or not I have plugged in a mic or headphones or whatever...I also know that I couldn't use my still relatively new and certainly functional SB Live based card with Vista...You may not like it...but this is where its going...thank god for Linux...
Well I can tell you that I have put of buying a Mini twice now because of its crappy GPU. I'm not asking for a top of the line GPU, even a low end nvidia/ati would be better than the crap it has now. How about maybe a mini with the OPTION of adding non-crappy GPU? I'd pay an extra $100 bux for that...
Great idea....just paint some colors on some keys. She would only have to remember order of colors she chose. I guess you'd have to paint a few colors that weren't used to confuse any attempts to guess...but most parents/siblings aren't going to be brute force savvy anyway...
Gravity keeps stars orbiting around galactic centers. It draws galaxies to each other. Lets see the other forces do that!
Go organize a protest about Tiananmen Square and find out.
and drug users are capable of using the metric system and converting between ounces/pounds and grams.
Reading the comments on this post today so reminds me of the movie and ideas behind Idiocracy. The future, today!
If you have to use Redhat/CentOS then use kickstart and you can specify exactly what you want/need as long as dependencies between packages are met.

You are socializing costs in either example and in both cases you pay more if people live unhealthy lifestyles.
As the great Colbert said - Reality has a liberal bias!

To scar your children or your furniture and floor? or both?
(the lawsuit route is sure to be too crowded to be worth your while...)
=)
First time someone doesn't get out of a burning building, or tumbles down the stairs will spell the end of this company...
