Spinners turn out to be collapsable sections of text. You can click an arrow or a +/- to expand them and read them or make them just a single line. So yes, they're very obnoxious.
I've seen them put to good use to hide spoilers in forums and the like, like everything, there are good and bad ways to use them, but far fewer good ways than bad.
I'm sick of essentially being blackmailed by people I buy stuff off who refuse to give me feedback until I've given them feedback, even though I've just paid them £100 for an item they are yet to post.
And fucking the Katrina victims out of Something Awful's donations was the straw that broke the donkey's back.
Care to back that up with some evidence? If by bloated you mean 'comes with more than just twm' or 'requires media larger than a floppy disk' then sure, but then again all the magical ram and processor power available nowadays (within the past 4 years) that dwarfs the museum piece you use daily easily copes..
People are going to want to buy an HD-DVD player for their HD-TV, there are no Blue-Ray TVs to go with the Blueray players. I wonder how much of an effect that issue alone will have on the zombie masses?
The problem is that some people are smart enough to use tools. When you use tools in a fight, it becomes a whole different issue. Perticularly when those of us that are patient and have good stratigic skill get involved. Unless for some reason you feel that we should encourage physical size over intelligence, and rash behavior over good planning.
The problem is that some people are intelligent but have no common sense. It's all about moderation, why can't you be both intelligent and physically capable? Strategic and responsive? Society's undertow to discourage intelligence and/or physical prowess is a disturbing trend that I hope we will grow out of one day.
And never ever take a tool to a fight, the chance of you losing and having it used againt you is far to high for it to be an 'intelligent' choice.
that you may as well go with a library like CPaint http://cpaint.booleansystems.com/ . It saves a lot of time, and the principle of AJAX is so simple anyway you aren't really missing out on any 'under the hood' shananigans. CPaint combined with some of the JavaScript from Scriptaculous http://script.aculo.us/ means you can quickly knock up something impressive and responsive with a pretty user interface that will let you extort as much money as you like from any Venture Capitalist you can garner an appointment with!
Firefly fans refuse to go quietly into the night. CMGaretJax writes "The Browncoats, a fan group based around the hit cult TV show Firefly, and the more recent movie, Serenity, have set up a website for donations from people who want to see another season of Firefly. So far they have raised $840 dollars against an estimated cost of 1 million per episode. An admirable attempt, and one that will hopefully pick up steam, the show really is too pretty to die."
From the site: We are in the process of returning all donations received. We came up against insurmountable odds and legal issues launching our fund-raising drive
A nice idea, and god I'd love a second series, but it was admitedly reaching for the stars, literally!
A lot of websites use redirect pages to get this exact same information, and off the top of my head I imagine it is pretty simple to notify multiple urls of where you are going using some tricky javascript and even cookies and referrers can be used across sites to track visitors. This is just making a very common, and needlessly complex, mechanism infinitely simpler for the web developer.
n an earlier Slashdot story, it was reported that a student was investigated for requesting Mao's Little Red Book on inter-library loan. It appears that the story was a hoax.
Fortunatly, you're stupid.

Next week I'm going to try and retrofit an iPod in my A Team lunchbox.
Simply the use of the word retrofit should ensure slashdot status!
