It has shown our government where the loopholes are and now they can close them. ( Yeah, right, that might happen! )
Oh, by the way, Apple, since you don't pay, what is in my opinion, your fair share of US taxes, then I do not feel that the US should use taxpayer money to go after people that steal your IP, patents or trade secrets. And those H1Bs you have? We will be paying very close attention to them.
Not if the author has actual data. Authors who go against a known field of study that don't actually have good data risk their careers, as they should.
And if the data goes against dogma, it is called into question. Something was not done correctly or quite often, the researcher is accused of fabricating the results. I've seen this way too often in Medical, Psychological and Physics research. Granted, these were papers close to thirty and plus years ago, but I suspect things have only gotten worse in this regard, not better.
Publications that go against the accepted dogma of the day, are generally rejected and can cause death to the career of the author. Contrary opinions have to be snuck in and couched in vague wordings. I suspect this is also true with global warming research.
Kudos to you and your company. Keep learning and exploring programming languages and techniques. But above all else, IGNORE what people on Slashdot tell you. Especially, since you are proving their dumb *sses wrong.
Sir Bedevere: There are ways of telling whether she is a witch. Peasant 1: Are there? Oh well, tell us. Sir Bedevere: Tell me. What do you do with witches? Peasant 1: Burn them. Sir Bedevere: And what do you burn, apart from witches? Peasant 1: More witches. Peasant 2: Wood. Sir Bedevere: Good. Now, why do witches burn? Peasant 3:...because they're made of... wood? Sir Bedevere: Good. So how do you tell whether she is made of wood? Peasant 1: Build a bridge out of her. Sir Bedevere: But can you not also build bridges out of stone? Peasant 1: Oh yeah. Sir Bedevere: Does wood sink in water? Peasant 1: No, no, it floats!... It floats! Throw her into the pond! Sir Bedevere: No, no. What else floats in water? Peasant 1: Bread. Peasant 2: Apples. Peasant 3: Very small rocks. Peasant 1: Cider. Peasant 2: Gravy. Peasant 3: Cherries. Peasant 1: Mud. Peasant 2: Churches. Peasant 3: Lead! Lead! King Arthur: A Duck. Sir Bedevere:...Exactly. So, logically... Peasant 1: If she weighed the same as a duck... she's made of wood. Sir Bedevere: And therefore... Peasant 2:...A witch!
Doesn't this belong to the people of the United States? They paid for it. If it was sold to raise money, then I'm fine with this. And that should be part of the public record. But otherwise, WTF?
Unfortunately for all of us, some people continue to give us a really bad reputation in the executive suite."
Sorry, but nothing, and I mean nothing, compares with the the bad reputation the executive suite has with everyone one. Psychotic bastards, the lot. Have you forgotten the whole banking fiasco that caused a massive economic meltdown? So, I think if anyone has a reputation to fix, it is upper management.
If I ever get arrested for something, I certainly do not want people to be able to bring up the video. Now, if you said that the videos were to be stored somewhere the police have no access, perhaps the Consumer Advocate's Office, I agree with you 100%. That way, the video is available should the police do something they should not be doing.
Really? We used to drag a marker across the top of the cards in a diagonal line from front to back. It was immediately obvious which cards were out of order.
Hmmm... I love a lot of my parents' music and their parents' music. I even like some of my kid's music. And my kids seem to like mine, more and more. Its a lot of fun introducing them to stuff that was popular 'way back', regardless if it is on vinyl or digital.
Over the weekend, the older one was cleaning up her iPod, disposing of her rap crap. It doesn't speak to her anymore. I doubt it ever did. Most likely it was only because it was what her friends listened to. Something to annoy the old folks ( me ).
Only the wife likes Disco and only my mother likes Opera.
The last laptop I bought, was for my mother for Christmas. I bought an additional 500GB drive for it, swapped the drives and installed Ubuntu. Machine fine. Mother fine. Windows 8... ummm... I guess I can use the drive it came on as a backup someday.
I just started looking into Hadoop, but from what I've read, I thought that the HDFS was open source. It certainly looks that way when I perused Apache Hadoop yesterday.
Ah, I see someone beat me to it. Of course, you and/or I will be modded down for saying this.
I expect this sort of behavior from the Apples and Microsofts of the tech industry. And as a prospective employee, I know what to expect. But Google wants to put themselves up as morally superior to these companies. In my opinion, this makes them worse.
As for the case, okay, they can't call it a class action suit. But they can pool their money, hire the best legal team money can buy, hire a good PR company that will inundate the media with David and Goliath stories and find a candidate with the best case. Try this thing in the press. Cockroaches hate the light of day. Make then scurry.
Slashdot readers sounding reasonable. About an ISP and Unlimited data. Wow.
I guess there will be no shortage of ice this weekend in the evil Lord's lair.
What would it take to convince a reasonable observer that you've got a controlled nuclear reaction going on here?
Simple scientific methodology; reproducibility. Pick another, unassociated lab, and have them do it.
Actually, they aren't even an organization. Who is the head? Who decides what will and won't be done?
It seems to me that 'Anonymous' will eventually become synonymous with the term 'hacker' as the popular press uses it.
Didn't Twilight ruin Vampires for generations to come?

Perhaps they were doMs...
Translated from Latin, the epigraph says something like "why should Philomel fancy my tears?"
Perhaps a little S&M?

After the past week of looking at some really stinky code around here, I would cherish diapers.

Hey!
Don't give them any stupid ideas! They've already got plenty of their own.
Keep Ballmer.
Whatever.
I'm still waiting for the 'spiritual successor' to OS/2 to come along.

It must have been a National Security issue.
Say what? Okay, so I'm late to this dance.
I just started looking into Hadoop, but from what I've read, I thought that the HDFS was open source. It certainly looks that way when I perused Apache Hadoop yesterday.
What did I miss?
The issue isn't about a boycott. It is about bringing a successful lawsuit against the companies involved.
