OpenOffice runs on Windows aswell, PostgreSQL too. Hell, lots of opensource projects do!!! And what you hear from the cities that move their IT to Linux: first move to OpenOffice on Windows, then smoothly go to Linux.
I don't see flames on OpenOffice and PostgreSQL running on Windows. Well, PostgreSQL is supported on SCO aswell (I think by EnterpriseDB), so I still don't get why all the bitching goes on MySQL AB.:(
I think, I'm pretty sure, it's the press and fanatics that just keep on dragging it over and over again, maybe based on again another (IMHO useless) Slashdot story.
All others have done it, so get over it. The code is GPL, and there is a company that pays (lots of) developers for everyone to enjoy it and give the world a choice.
Did I understand you correctly that you base your business on articles in the press, or what your read on/. or even what you hear on the street?
If so, I would seriously think about actually picking up the phone and ask MySQL AB about your options. (Yes, you can actually call somebody..) If not, then I just missunderstood you and that's good;)
As I have nothing personally against PostgreSQL, I just don't like people bashing MySQL for no reason, and sure for the wrong reasons. It's getting ridiculous. And when business start to base their business on what they pick up in the press or *my doggy told me*, oh my..
I think you can criticize something/someone, but you got to get your facts correct first.

MyISAM is still 'out of the box' default storage engine. But you can configure MySQL to use InnoDB for newly created tables by default. ISAM is gone, MyISAM stays ofcourse.
InnoDB has been in MySQL 3.23 and up and is ACID (and -has- transaction support!). Nothing changed in that regards in 5.0.
Don't think there is much reason to swith if you are using Mozilla. But for a lot of people Firefox is faster and smaller. It also looks cooler by default.
Actually, they 'Dina' comes from Dina Tersago. A Computer Science student that becomes miss belgium is not something you see everyday:) I know about this stuff, because I was one of the first that heared the name of the project years ago from Thomas.
If you don't like it, use another one. And nobody dictates you what to use. Unlike some other companies..
For my part, I stick with it. It is neither childish or enoying. It's plain, cool, feels right to the eye. I still can connect with xterm to our Debian and Solaris servers. I just can do whatever I want. Hell, I compiled mplayer which not complained about gcc being bad.;-)
If RedHat can do their jobs better and spend less money for support with this default theme in Gnome and KDE.. well, it's a very good thing. They still support the community.... and that is all that matters! Damnit!

Yup, I pay for the international communication from Belgium to Germany if someone calls me from Belgium while I'm in Germany, or France, or Spain, or wherever. Actually this makes sense since the caller doesn't know 'where' you are and can't be charged because of that.
Now. It's expensive that way because they charge more than normal international communications. But ofcourse, one could use a wired phone.. but I like to have one number in Europe. see?:) Anyway, I don't use my phone anymore. Email rules.

You got a good point there. A regular phone is working great. Cost-effictive.. that is more likely to be the case for companies.
I think for inter-continental calls it's a good solution to use 'voice-over-ip'. I think about the internet cafees in Africa and stuff like that.
Regular phones are great.. and charges are only dropping I guess. But just call a Belgian GSM-number walking around in Germany from Belgium.. check your invoice.. and cry:/
Sounds great and useful, but it seems only available in the US and Canada? I read people were using it to call people in Africa? If I would buy such thing and import it, I guess it would work with the Fobbit tools?
Or am I missing a link somewhere?:) Creative Worldwide websites don't show the product in Europe..

Sure, read commercial software licenses. It's pretty much the same but in a more formal manner expressed.
I agree that this paragraph is really to flashy as an opening. It keeps people back and should not be displayed that way:)
Nevertheless.. I'm considering buying some VoIPs and use the risky soft. X Window System comes also with the warning it can blow your monitor..
In Belgium we use (for years now) SmartCards called Proton. We have to put it in a reader, check the amount, press ok and that's it.
You can only loose what is digitally on the card. Just like loosing your wallet. The amount digitally stored is limited. Most new devices have it, most stores have it. You fill it like getting money out of the wall..
That SpeedPass sure sounds cool, but it's a little to speedy to spend money i think..
Interesting indeed!

Just for your information, InnoDB Hot Backup is not opensource and not part of MySQL.
Rest is offtopic.
And if you read the comments, you will see there are some big errors in
that article. Arjen explains it in one go:
"The key 5.0 features such as triggers, stored procedures, update-able views, etc
are available from all storage engines."
So, not only InnoDB! The features are working fine for MyISAM for example!
Totally offtopic I guess. But..
