I've seen a Sony disc that tries to show the difference side-by-side on the same movie (splitting the screen of a scene to show the left side as DVD and the other as Blu-Ray).
Those differences are exaggerated. On a well calibrated and well engineered DVD player, the picture looks much better than the simulated version.
That's not to say that there are in fact no differences--it's just that the differences are somewhat subtler. To me, faces look better in HD, provided the color is accurate, and the image hasn't been filtered. Shiny objects (such as water) tend to look a bit more real.
Funny thing about that. I was watching Il Postinolast night, and the menu system was buggy. I essentially rebooted the DVD player with two presses of the Eject button (Slide tray out, slide tray in).
Certain features of this player (region changing, switching between DVD-Audio and DVD-Video) only seem to work when the tray is extended. A remote eject is useful there.
On the other hand, I use a Harmony, so many of the advanced features don't have hard buttons assigned to them.
108 inches diagonally is 94 inches wide. If you don't have a large home, it might be difficult to find 8 ft of solid uninterrupted wall (more if you want to complement it with speakers) and in some geek homes, three or four floor to ceiling bookcases may win out. And if you do have a large home, it may be more sensible to install a projector.

Yep. The existance of online horse gambling demonstrates that the US really doesn't have a morals problem with online gaming. So, if there's no moral objection, that leaves protectionism, which is a no-no under WTO rules.
Dusk! With a creepy tingling sensation, you can hear the fluttering of leathery wings! BATS! With glowing red eyes and glistening fangs, these unspeakable giant bugs drop onto... As described by Calvin, 3 Nov 1989
The main elements of the new content regulatory framework in Schedule 7 to the BSA are: a prohibition on X18+ and RC content;

"In developing these new content rules, ACMA was guided by its disposition to allow adults to continue to read, hear and see what they want, while protecting children from exposure to inappropriate content, regardless of the delivery mechanism," Mr Chapman said in a statement.
A 13" sansui atsc crt for $109. Now, it may or may not be an awful TV. And I don't know the dealer. But inexpensive atsc televisions are not out of the question.
When I went to purchase a new TV a few weeks ago, the salesweenie insisted that I needed to get something that did 1080p because "everyone was going to switch to 1080p in 2009".
Uh huh. The ATSC spec defines 18 formats, one of which is some variant of 1080p. All ATSC tuners will decode all formats, and upscale or downscale as necessary.
Bluray and HDDVD both have much more 1080p content, and although the players will upscale and downscale, some consumers figure that a TV that fails to render every pixel is a waste of money, even if their visual acuity is insufficient to actually resolve those pixels.
1080p HDTV is a scheme to sell huge TVs. Yes, there's some benefit to be had with a small HDTV-- it does look sort of better than DVD, but unless the TV is absolutely huge, the differences between 1080p and 720p are not so readily apparent.
proprietary piece of hardware in the Intel processor. (Platform lock-in...love it!) so get a 64 bit processor. There's nothing inherently wrong with supporting the latest and greatest features of a CPU. Torvalds originally wrote his system because Tanenbaum was reluctant to support the advanced feature set of the 386. The ports to PowerPC, Alpha, Sparc, etc came later.
And I never will again. He's as bad as the people he is criticizing, if not worse. He does exactly what he accuses the "Microsoft shills" of doing. From another article on the site: "I explained that he could just drag the application to the trash, and that in the Mac OS there are no DLL files to worry about."
Riiight. Mac OS doesn't have libraries. There are no possible library mismatch issues on Mac OS. Okay, buddy, whatever."
I've just had problems with them. Mechanical wear and tear, I suppose. I like a clean stereo signal, and all too often, the plug loosens, resulting in crosstalk. Incidentally, RCA plugs are not preferred by professionals for video applications-- it's easier to make a 75ohm BNC connection.
What facts? Congress passes the amendment by a two thirds vote, and sends it out to be ratified by three fourths of the states. Difficult, but not impossible.
The third reason, only now becoming relevant, is the move to HDTV as opposed to SD. Video over firewire is typically encoded as a DV stream, and that is Standard Definition only.
I've recorded a few Transport Streams off my HD Tuner, before it died. 1080i and 720p video multiplexed with AC3 audio.
Ewwww! Who in their right mind would want to be enveloped by a vagina that pulsates rhythmically? An artiste who wants to transgress boundaries, of course.

Records have extremely low dynamic range. In other words, they are flat.
So do CDs. Oh sure, the claimed dynamic range is 90 dB, but a great many CDs are mastered with dynamic range compression techniques

Get the full frame version, and stretch it then.

There are people that can't afford cable TV still. Are they the type of person to keep up on tech news?
It's a waste of money. Over the air transmission is free.

Good one. That's DVB-T. It won't work here. We use ATSC in the US.

Look, have you ever used a Mac? Shared Libraries are versioned.
And the Mac has bundles , which keep applications and libraries together.
Quite frankly, this attitude reminds me of people who think that installing a new device driver under Linux entails a reboot. Traditions can be wrong.
Road to Reality posited a neo platonist view of things.

I hate the minijack with a passion.
The Mac comes with xcode. Linux comes with well, just about everything.
There is value in free and fair elections, even if they do not alter the status quo.
