I was thinking of just the same thing. If people know it will perish within 8 hours, the first thing they'll want to do is to store the DVD content on their hard drive.
Actually, that might even prove bad for those who produce the DVD in the first place. What did they think people with files on their hard drive and a broadband connection will want to do ? (hint: the answer's in the question)
How does the cameras sensors not melt and achieve good accuracy by staring into the sun ? Surely they must be cooled off, but how ? The overclocking crowd here must have some insights !
Btw, I tried to stare at the sun once when I was a kid, that was stupid. I was told too late that one can go blind for doing that -- that must explain the glasses today...
Slashdot needs a separate computers MOD topic

Did we mention that Slashdot needs to create a computers MOD section ? This would be attractive to many, i.e. even to you since you could disable this topic in your preferences if you didn't like it.
Such topic would also make grouping mods together very easy, in order to come back to them later for example at the time you need the most (inspiration, inspiration...;)
Microsoft are rolling their own anyway (.NET), and with their monopoly over 90% of the desktops and IE6 high in this prominent spot, I fail to see how this will make a difference to end-users...
Anyway, how often do people reboot their machines nowadays?
How about every day at night for example ? Mine is next to the bedroom, so it's either I power it off at night, or I wake-up with a stupid humming sound in my hears the next morning.
Well I admit, stupid social politics also has its benefits;)
Btw since we're working out the differences, people in North America earn on average twice as much as Europeans do, possibly 3x more. Yet, EU taxpayers are hammered with what are among the heaviest taxes. Said social benefit (cheap medical care) have to be paid with something !
Us consumers in the US can look to our government to stand up to this overt attack on our rights! Politicians in Washington aren't going to let these big record companies galavant about stomping on our rights!
Simpler even, Acrobat is a commercial product but the format, PDF, is an open format. It will never go away because of that and because of the wide range of implementations/tools readilly available.
With Microsoft pretty much doing what they want these days, do you have fear that their Palladium project could be a real threat to Linux and other free-software projects, if MS try to force it upon their installed base ? What will be the best way to fight Palladium ?
While I wee what you mean, I disagree simply because of the volume of case mods being submitted so Slasodot...
We need a Slashdot Case Mod Topic

I've said it before and I'll say it again: there is a huge opportunity for Slashdot to create said topic. For chrissake there are more and more Apple-related topic, and even one legacy Internet Explorer topic (hand-picked among a dozen other esoteric ones), yet no Case Mods......?
Ideally, in case we refer to a low-bandwidth site loaded with graphics, the topic could benefit from a temporary Slashdot mirror of the page (say, 1 week, to help the sites whistand the Slashdot effect).
At the pace Research is going, they're going to have their laser ready in a decade - just in time to match what was depicted in Akira (1988) with satellite SOL. One of my favourites movies btw.:)
They decided to setup some limit to 200 friends+foes. Doh.

Hey, that was an awesome explanation. Thanks!

This reminds me of this one time when I chatted this girl on IRC. Oh wait.....
...whatever happened to your girlfriend ?

Then screw global warming. I'm buying that SUV :->

Editors, please hear my plea :)
Too bad diesel died so many years ago in the US, but that's also beyond the point.
And 3L is great btw. :)
Count me in.
I also want to advertise my products on Slashdot @! I couldn't find the tariffs in the FAQ though. Can someone advise....
