Hopefully the amount of hoops common criteria makes you jump through will be enough to 'persuade' microsoft into just keeping win2k around instead of EOLing it.
PHP is much better (imo of course) than ASP or java or VB script. The problem lies in that most people that don't want ASP or java or VB want something that is either faster, or more compatable. PHP and perl are both faster and compatable, but perl is more of both compared to PHP, so most people just use perl.
The other minor problem is just perception. Most people's perception is that PHP can only be used as a web scripting language for formmail and the such, and not for "serious" things like sys admin automation or enterprise sites, when it is largely useable for both. I've seen webservers and exchange clients in PHP. They are much slower than perl or C counterparts, but they are also about 1/3 of the code...
This is *not* a drop in replacement for an exchange server. This does look like a nicely packaged set of servers to replace the functionality, with optional arm&leg support contracts.
woo.hoo.
I mean, yeah professional support is a great thing that will get a little bit into companies, but seriously, nobody is going to rip out an exchange server, dispite its distatefulness; then reconfigure every client to use smtp-auth/imap/ldap not to mention *loose* outlook's calendaring feature, just for clientside flexibility that they never wanted in the first place?
Some of the more complex and heafty NOC's I've heard about actually have halon, or similarly based fire prevention systems for the entire room. Auto sealing doors and the works. The old "you have 20 seconds to exit the room" plot device brought to life.
Most computer sales are to businesses and newbs though. At work they won't get >19" and my grandma can't see over 800x600 anyways. What will happen is that computers are getting cheaper, but people (read: businesses) will still pay $1500 per machine. Once Dell and HPaq start bundling 17" lcd's with their (now cheaper) boxes, the LCD sales will grow alot.
Actually I believe nearly all of the slashdot geeks into women exploded with the Stevie Case playboy shoot.
Far more... tasteful imo:]

For most everyone 60hz is sufficient for 3d gaming. For people that can actually distinguish refresh above 60hz there is a noticable difference in play (or rather results of play) as resolutions rise.
Unfortunately this sort of thing has caught on with the masses like refresh rates on video cards. 70% of the people will get the ubercard-9000 even though only 10% of people can benefit from the better refresh.

No, he's just a management goon who's getting the profit bonuses from laying off 50% of his staff. Very dislike superheroes, except for the spandex of course...
Indeed, and furthermore the recipient hadn't already seen the email. Tell the guy (doesn't matter if it's the CEO or joe-minimum-wage) that since the recipient hadn't seen the email you can do it, but cannot guarantee you can in the future, and they should be more careful. If they do it in the future, say you can't do it, it's too late.
It wasn't that they were using genetic testing to keep 'inferior' people out, the genetic testing is an identification method, like retina scans and the such.
Oddly enough, I've found that hard drives last much better now as compared to 4-8 years ago. Even my 20g IBM's have been running nicely for 2-3 years now no problem. My workplace has only seen 2-3 non-user caused hdd issues in 3 years (fujitsu and seagate were the offenders).
In college (4-8 years ago) it was pretty common for 3-4 drives of people I knew to keel over per semester... Maybe it's just that win2k requires less power cycling and nasty stuff done to the drives, but still.
GUIs, especially window's GUI is designed for common content between apps. It's designed so that everything should be fairly clear for someone to point, click, choose, repeat until they get what they want.
If the designers meant outlook to be used your way, they would've made it look like mutt, and done away with the ludicrous overhead that comes from rendering icons and menus that are never used.
I make backups of my game cds. I buy them, and because of assinine copy protection schemes, I need to keep switching the cds in my drive. Oddly enough, all that handling (and coke spillage and dropping and...) puts a little wear on them. Silly me uses burnt copies so I don't have to rebuy a game I already own.
Certainly it is not the majority, but it's foolish to think that this sort of protection won't be circumvented within a week or two of release.
Perhaps my statement was to terse to be clear, college education is not wasteful or dumb, and is usually the best investment someone can make. Unfortunately more often than not people do not pay off their debts, and instead gain more debt due to overspending on other things.

Doesn't all fuel by definition cost more energy to create than to store?
We just try to bypass this by using fuels that natural processes spent energy creating rather than us.

I was until I realised "Adult swim" mixed with "Anime" wasn't really what I thought it was...
I still get mousegunk on those pads, though MUCH slower than "normal" ones, and the 3M pads are much easier to clean.
America OnLine? Saddam would never use such a heathen service!

Indeed. I'm just saying that the keyboard shortcuts are less a design of the window manager, and more a microsoft only convention.
I agree that there is quite a difference between looking and being fast.
no Flamebait my ass.

Sounds like a great oppertunity for the Indian IT community to contribute to Linux. After all, isn't that one of the benefits Linux will provide?
Friend of mine uses one of those, I don't have the hdd space for it really.

Certainly not. There is a difference of course between saving, and taking out loans responsibly, and running up $10,000 on your 12% credit card.

The best definition of Gen X I've heard was that you were/are a Gen Xer if you were in grades 7-12+college when cobain died.
Indeed, or not everyone was wise enough to get in with a startup that actually produces things more like it.
