The game companies could set up their own real world auction system, allowing players to trade cash for online items/players. The game companies could take a percentage of the rl money paid, or charge a flat fee. Anyone trading on other auction sites would then face a penatly (in game). Work out a deal with Ebay and then they wouldn't have to build a auction engine.
Move the IT jobs to places with a lower cost of living, TX, OK, AL, KS, LA, NB, etc. There are skilled people in those states who won't demand silicon valley salaries.
I have no personal need for a cell phone. I have to carry a pager for work, but that has 2-way capabilities. I enjoy not being tied to a cell phone, quiet time good.
exactly...earnings are important. besides the cost of the pc itself, there is a kvm switch (or a seperate monitor); plus you have to make sure you have enough network drops for each additional computer...and then supporting all these extra "for fun" computers.
I believe I did hear something about this on all the news channels, news papers, news websites; along with continuous updates about the disaster.

The overhead lights are out in about 80% of the company, people have to use little cube lights to see. Some prefer to work in the dark anyway, but it sure is a pain in the ass trying to assemble serves via a flashlight.
Intel said they wouldn't even think of building another plant in California, and other businesses are loking out of state to move/build.

If you don't like either candidate for President, so what? Forget about them (vote 3rd part), and vote in a race that may have a more direct impact on your daily lives, such as city council, state legislature, school board, sheriff, US Senate and House of Rep., etc.
I like that the morning paper (SF Chronicle) I read on the train to work is also on the web. This way I can send the url of any interesting stories to my co-workers/friends. Not all stories are on the web, but the majority are there.
I still have a affection for my print copy (and not just newspapers).

I did the Oreilly labs on, it's ok...but kind of skimpy on the deeplinux OS knowledge. It briefly covers email and apache as well.

how did BSD take a hit? Yahoo wasn't "down", the pipes to it were just saturated.
