Take a look at securitygeeks.com, another site with only 3 people posting a hundred articles per day.
But I like the site, I get some decent info, and I help them out by posting comments and checking out their banner advertisers. Maybe more people will like the site, and it could become another great place like Slashdot.
When slashdot started, I betcha Rob was the only dude posting to 12 readers...
I didn't know Jason, and this morning is the first time I hear his name. But I can still feel for what he and his loved ones are going through. Maybe this isn't news that affects my life, but a bit of sympathy for others would be nice.
If you haven't anything nice to say, keep it to yourself.
No, I won't shut up. That's my opinion wether you like it or not. And I do not believe looking at microbes on mars rocks is very productive. And Yes, if the end of humanity comes at the end of sunlight, well I'll be glad to know that we aren't the idiots who have extinct our own race.
Many may consider this a troll or something, but I find there's a huge waste of money in these types of projects vs. the scientific and technological advancements they procure. Wouldn't these huge amounts of money be better spent researching disease cures and helping develop countries and savin' our trees???
Before finding out if life existed on Mars, hou about they try to save life on Earth before it becomes extinct!
Everyone seems to need to hang on to something.. Ride the latest wave, do like everyone else. In a world of imitators and phonys, we need innovation and development.

The SMB protocol itself is a subset of TCP/IP, and therefore it will work even thru the Internet. The complication is when you wish to browse resources in the Network Neighborhood. As the browser uses B-Node broadcasts to fill the Browse List (list of servers in a workgroup), these broadcasts are not going through the routers. Samba enables you to "broadcast on another subnet", hence you may "see" Samba servers in the same workgroup on different subnets.
Windows remedies this situation by using a WINS server, which is a replacement for the broadcast nature of name resolution. Using a WINS server, each client (regardless of their subnet) can query the WINS server to resolve names and browser requests. These requests can (and will) be routed if several subnets exist.
Another way to deal with cross-subnet browsing is using NT's LMHOSTS file, and including both Domain Controllers in the file, but that's another story!
I really appreciated the chart that compares the different CPU architectures. I teach Computer Science classes, and you won't believe how people judge a CPU only by it's rated MHz. For them, K6/2 500 == Athlon 500 == Alpha 500.
I'm just wondering, now that AMD is working on a 64-bit chip without having an Intel counterpart to base itself on, how compatible will they both be when they hit the market??
One must admit that Microsoft have it going on when it comes to ease-of-use and app consistency. If you want to make Linux easy-to-use, make it work like Windows.
I recently installed Corel Linux on my desktop computer at work. What a charm to work with! I was raised on Slackware back in 1996 and have been using Slack and RH ever since, so just clicking on Windows Network and seeing all my servers in the point-and-click-and-poof-its-mounted interface was a relief. But all that ease-of-use comes at a price: the computer it runs on only (!!) has 32MB, and Corel makes it swap _a lot_. Just opening a telnet window and using Netscape seems painful.
Windows has an outstanding app consistency too. Always CTRL+C to copy and CTRL+V to paste. Thats just an example, but it's more than I can say for Linux.
Now if only M$ could design an easy-to-use, consistent web site. Have you browsed their website lately? Very difficult finding stuff in there!
Sure, I love FreeBSD and OpenBSD like anyone, but only geeks know about xBSD. The whode damn planet knows about Linux, and that's where public perception sees Open Source.
I appreciate your support of Open Source, but it is Linux that has rendered the Open Source movement a public one.
I don't see why M$ would embrace Open Source software. If they were to Open Source WinCE, do you think that they would publicly admit that th OSS community actually improved their product?
That would be an indirect endorsement of Linux.
I think M$ know that some of the best programmers (technical aspect) are OSS programmers, but they wouldn't have us believe that!
Because it claims it's expired. Yet on Real's website, it's very difficult to find and download anything Linux.
In the past, my G2 player had worked well, except for consuming 100% CPU time. So until Real release a decent, modern player for Linux, I'm not holding my breath.
... that other standardized API's will be elected. If that's one thing we can learn about M$ is the easy app development. Except we benefit from the Open Source: no hidden API calls.
I don't mean to flame, but anywhere a business sector can profit, the government HAS to put in its 2-bit laws and squeeze the profit out of the business.
As a canadian, this is the major cause of the Brain Drain, where everyone who wants to make a decent amout of money moves south to the States, where the tax rates are much lower.
Private Industry cannot raise prices as it pleases, and it cannot add costs where there are none, but the goverment can add taxes on taxes. What can we do about it, except complain?
I agree. I have the #1 post in this story, and one moderator flagged it as Funny (as I intended it), another as a Troll.
hehe oh well, I guess we can't please everyone.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't

Is/. posts something new without taking the time to investigate it, they could be bashed by people like you and I for "not doing their journalist's job" and being "irresponsible".
But if they _do_ check it out, and realize the scoop is real and worth writing, then people like you and I criticize the story as being old news.
Nobody's forcing you to read it, just check the headlines. If it's old, move on!
Currently, Linux is lacking the standardized interfaces and API's that WIndows has. What is the greatest challenge (that needn't be one) when porting a game to Linux?
I mean, what makes you swear at Linux and say, Damnit, why doesn't Linux have this yet???
Soooo many AC's piss everyone off with their trolls, let the posters troll and play with us a bit. They do need their fun once in a while!

Same here, I'm simply waiting for WP2000 and Corel DRAW/PhotoPAINT and my life is complete.
