    One true way? Sorry your church of Microsoft is in Redmond.

    Providing source code solves problems. If you release just a piece of the whole you may not get any problems solved. But Microsoft is not releasing the code to solve problems. They are just doing it because it's trendy, like smoking cigars or having a lesbian fling.

    Microsoft will have to open up a big chunk of code (because everything is the OS ) to make it worth someones time.

    Well if 90% of the code is mine, and 10% is yours, then I have to adopt your license? That's what's wrong with it.

    So I should be forced to adopt your license? If you want to use my code deal with it! If you don't like it, what the hell is stoping you from coding the other 10%. Don't talk about being forced to change your license when your not being forced. Code it yourself.

    Maybe they settled.
    Years ago the silicone implant companies settled a lot of lawsuits, but after years of studies, no data linking silicone and ill health could be found. It just doesn't happen!

    Every new release I buy full price from Red Hat and/or Caldera. Then I buy a few from cheap bytes to give away. Gotta give these people credit for all the work they have done. If you have the money, support the cause.

    Damm that guy is a suck up. I started to read his page because I am such a big fan of Larry Niven, but this guy is dense.(Sorry Larry) Every day there is a new problem with windows 95 or NT or 98 or 98.5 or something. (Windows NT crashes because I was running it too long.)

    Complain complain complain that is all he does. I also like to know if he's got licenses for all those Windows installs he does.

    23 Megabytes of his non-fiction careers is complaining about how Windows isn't working for him, but Linux is hard to configure! It's laughable! Hah! Linux is hard!

    He started talking last year about trying out linux but when he tried he got scared and ran away. He never tried again.
    But now he has someone writing about Linux.

    it's just that alot of people here need to grow up and realize that not everything microsoft does is evil. home and business computing - and i dare say the amount of consumers using the web now - wouldn't be anywhere near what it is right now without microsoft.

    Ummmm You have to grow up ... everything Microsoft does is evil. Why don't you go read some of those e-mails that the DOJ is releasing. How does "KNIFE THE BABY" or "SMILE WHEN WE KILL THEM" sound. Or did you miss the grown ups in Washington putting Microsoft on trial? You also have to be quite thick to think Microsoft did anything to get people on the internet. As far as I can remember, a bunch of other companies did while MS pushed MSN. Remember Trumpet WinSock?

    There is a FREE (beer) WinZip clone that has ads built into it. It is called SuperZip. I thought it was a good tradoff. Many people where I used to work used winzip. Of course winzip is not freeware or shareware. It just doesn't self-destruct after 21 days.
    I tried to tell that they where using it illegally! The company is a big high tech kind of place (think ibm, lucent or both )but they didn't seem to mind ripping of the Winzip people. If I used Office or Windows in the same way they would of had my head ( "that is piracy" they would say)

    Yea I guess I'll try to walk around all day trying to be HIP and BEAUTIFUL. Maybe I'll try to screw an intern or make fun of someone because their different.
    Maybe I'll cheat on my wife, and on my taxes and drive a LEXUS. I'll buy some MSFT and care more about the DOW then ZOSOVO. Then I'll be normal!

    The day I realized I wasn't like everyone else was the day I started being me! I can do UGLY and WEIRD better than anyone, so why not go for it?

    No clue about business? You mean like the people who are betting on companies like Amazon? Amazon is hot as hell and wont be profitable for a few years yet. Betting on stock prices is like trading baseball cards. There is no basis in reality for the price of a stock, besides gullibility of other stock buyers. There is always some moron out there willing to bet on anything. Microsofts stock has always gone up. It has nothing to do with the stability of Windows XX. DOJ or not when the uncertainity of Microsoft business becomes apparent the price will swing like Tarzan.

    What we at Slashdot do know is what kind of shity products Microsoft produces. If morons like you continue to inflate its stock prices why should we care. Why don't you bet on the current buzz word like portal or something.

    As far as I can see, Red Hat has always been a Pro Linux anti-proprietary type of company. As long as whatever they produce is still GPL people will back them. OF COURSE this could be a low power scare tactic for suits. (beware!)

    Don't shun Red Hat ... Help Them!

    Have any suggestions on how they could make Linux better, easier, cooler? Write them!

    This allows young programmers who have never seen professional source code, see how it's done. Think of all of the kids with computers thinking of getting into Visual Basic. But now they have this killer state of the art game they can actually learn from written in some other language.
