> I wonder if dyslexia is like ADHD -- *everyone* has a little bit of it, and officially "having it" merely means that one has it beyond a clinically significant level.
That makes the huge and unproven assertion that everyone has some degree of ADHD. I reject that premise until it can be proven otherwise.
If they idea is to determine whether it can be cracked, why are there rules? Whether they followed some self-imposed rules or not, it still indicates that there is a weak link in the armor.
If I let a cop into my house, I do not have to give him permission to look into my bedroom or allow him to look in my dresser. So, how is that different from letting someone into my computer, but locking them out of particular directories or files?
The receipt check they do is bogus anyway. They don't actually check anything on the receipt. Basically, they look to see you have a receipt. They never look in the bag to see what you have, and they certainly never match what's in the bag to what's on the receipt. After they do a receipt check, quiz them on what you bought. They will never be able to tell you. Never!
I don't know how often I've saved my own can by retrieving an email from someone denying one thing or another or if a project goes south due to additional requests. By demanding that all requests be in written form or in email, I can produce a paper trail of all the requirements for a given project. As developers, we do nothing unless we have an official request. This limits our responsibility when things go over budget or behind schedule.
Deleting emails when a project is over is not necessarily a good idea, either. Patterns of irrational and poorly thought out requests can be produced over a long time period and this can also be used to cover one's caboose or even to give priorities to scope creep during crunch time. If things are going slow and they want some feature added in, we might be more inclined to meet that request. But if we're facing hard deadlines, we can push back and make the requester decide which are the most important features to add.
I don't use ergonomic keyboards, and not only have I used regular keyboards forever, I've been a piano player since I was 5 years old. How come we don't hear about CTS amoungst piano players, organist and the like. What about guitarists? Eddie Van Halen may have cancer, but he's never complained about CTS. While I'm sure that such a condition exists, I'm sure the medical community over-diagnoses, because of the money involved.
In that respect, I don't think it's any different than all the Prozac prescriptions that are given every year. What percentage is completely unnecessary?
From time to time, I see messages pop up on the DVD when pausing or stopping. From what I've read, everyone involved in the process has to sign an NDA to not talk about it
It makes me doubt the veracity of your entire question. Here's what the constitution says about treason:
Article III:
Section 3. Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.
The Congress shall have power to declare the punishment of treason, but no attainder of treason shall work corruption of blood, or forfeiture except during the life of the person attainted.
I fail to see how software distibution could be considered treason. Has slashdot just been duped again?
Not necessarily a good thing.

PayPal Goes Public

From what I understand, PayPal is facing hard times, and the negative publicity they've been getting lately is not helping matters. I'm not sure I would want to put my money into a company in this situation. Raising money to expand your company is one thing, but a company raising money to stay afloat is never a good financial investment. With the whole Enron fiasco happening, I think people will be a little gun shy in investing in this company.

A real programmer can do all 25 in one line of code.

I'm putting all my devices on the national do not call registry.
Problem solved!
Microsoft developers are working on SkipMark(R) version 1.0 even as we speak.

You're wasting your time. I picked mine up at the Antik Road Show.
A million. One to make the countersuit, 999,998 to download the suit via P2P and one RIAA agent to sue the lot of them.
The security staff blocking the car is one thing and could have lead to a fine on their part.
How is this any different than what OJ did? I wonder if he can argue false imprisonment.

Why spend effort on this, when they can't get it to work with 1 processor?

> I thought we couldn't measure our universe?
Really, we only have to measure half of it and multiply 2.
I'm having t-shirts made with the phrase Klaatu Baraada Nictu on the front and
1) Near Earth collision
2) Invasion by martians
3) T-Shirts in designer colors
4) ???
5) Profit
on the back.

At least it'll be Gnu/Linux based...
Blasting sound is not exactly a way to keep your exact position from the enemy. Of course, neither is blowing up landmines.
It was foretold in that great annals of earth's (future) history: Plan 9 From Outer Space.
Word is, it's more accurate than Nostradamus' works.

So what gives?
Improving on uncertainty is akin to saying The original formula is back and it's better than ever.
Did Breck Shampoo provide the funding for this?
Didn't Discovery Channel do a documentary on wives who reduced their husbands to cinders merely by giving them the evil eye?
