Its amazing that nintendo was cool enough to release a commericial as a film and kids would flock to see it? Best review of this film I've ever seen is here: http://www.x-entertainment.com/articles/0795/
Vincent is not the victim. He is a co-conspirator. He made the choice to follow AOL's unethical practices. To not let someone cancel their account is to try and steal money from them. I don't care how hard up Vincent was, to steal from your fellow man is a disgrace. I lived out of my car for 2 years getting my own business going because working for places like AOL is not an option for me. Now I support my wife and myself. I'll be a hard one to convince that working for an evil company is justified by need of money.
Well, why not stockpile Helium-3 now? It is at least a lot smarter than the US trying to stockpile oil, a soon-to-be obsolete resource.

Videogames as Art
·
· Score: 4, Informative
Usualy when I see the words Videogame and Art together, someone is talking about art that is inspired by video games (like the Paper Rad comics or the Brick Attack fashion stuff). So its nice to see art being attributed to the source.
There was a magazine in Japan years back that was basicly applying art and film theory to video games. Does anyone know what this was called?
Reminds me of the Cue JACK scanner. You can scan barcodes of food products with this, but instead of returning price info to you, it looks up who he manufacturer is and tells you about their shadey side. Shadey side being environmental problems they caused, if they use sweat shops, how they treat animals, etc, etc. Corporate crime stuff.
Although I have made proper vinyl here in the US (through United, Rainbow, and a couple other mom n'pops now extinct) for releases on my indie record label (shameless plug - http://deathbombarc.com) I have been much more fond of making LATHE CUTS. A fellow named Peter King in New Zealand cooks up his own version of vinyl (actualy some type of plastic he makes which is clear!) and then cuts each record by hand. It would be impossible to make thousands of records this way, but it a miracle for small bands that can only sell may 30-100 copies of their album/single while on brief weekend tours and whatnot. Besides this, Peter can shape the records in anyway you like. I made a lathe cut through Peter that was shaped like an X!!! If you are interested, his only website is a fan site, but it does have pretty accurate rate info. Fax or call him for a quote though, as the fellow doesn't have an internet connection... http://home.attbi.com/~cassetto/kingcontact.html
It doesn't matter what type of label your band is on (be it self-released, friendly indie, or greedy major) the only way to make any money as a band is either through touring or licensing. So if one is looking to use the internet to help them make rent, it would be best to use it as a research tool for finding places to play and schmoozing.
Don't leave pubic hair on soap cuz:
1. At least outa general respect for others cuz most people don't like it.
And if you care about why most people don't like it:
2. Hair is used for style, appearance. Where it is not needed it is shaved
off. So when we use it, it is vital, dear, near to home, a part of us. When
we shave it off it becomes not us. Its near death state while clinging to
our bodies is revealed. We get scared that we are covered in death, our
outsides constantly shedding into the void. The void that is everything not
us. Yet a void that we call "Existence" and embodies all life. A void that
inherently we must be within. But we like to think about that even less than
death.
So, of course we wash the hair down the drain or throw it in the trash
because it is a horrible monster. Then, when you think of where most hair on
soap comes from: the pubic region? Well, sex, death, and void all at once?
Come on, even Shakespear knows about that one! And he's old!
So the counter argument is that people need to get over their fear of
death and the unknown and then we will stop caring about loose hairs?
No! No! No! Please do not believe this for a second you fuckin' hippy!
We would just stop cutting/shaving hair in total and then we would be so in
tune with "Existence" that we would be just like it: a void. We would be
only concerned with the things vital for being a part of the void. No more
doing things just for the sake of doing them. In other words, no more
Entertainment - OUR TRUE GOD. No! We would just be animals. No! We are
privileged to have minds that control things and thus adjust our environment.
We must use this privilege because it is our biggest evidence that there is
a God who in some odd way - loves us. Why should we have so little self
respect that we don't take advantage of this privilege? Not for God's sake.
He doesn't care if we fail. It doesn't hurt Him at all because He is perfect
in compassion. A compassion that never fades and could never be shaken. For
if it was, Existence itself would end. He must be perfect in compassion to
keep the "humans as thinkers/civilization" machine going. People that desire
the apocalypse hate themselves and wish to die like a pubic hair.
Self respect is needed to participate in the civilization machine. So
participate in it. If not for yourself then for the slim possibility that
eternal compassion can be shaken.
You must embrace society, civilization, culture - which is nothing more
than groups of people finding ways to maximize their happiness via
entertainment. This does not mean be a mindless zombie though. No, the
point is not just to be entertained, but to take active control in your
environment. Use it towards maximum benefit. Make yourself as entertained
as possible. If everyone had this goal we could do amazing things. How
about advertisements that the people actually control. Forms of media that
are actually a discourse. That would get rid of all our politicians right
off the bat. Image if Bill Clinton had actually fielded unscreened questions
at the MTV conference. Questions asked by a "Real Audience?" What real
audience? I wasn't there! Does this mean I am not a part of the audience
MTV intended to have? I guess I'm not. So do I change the channel and
forget about politics and never vote or do I pretend to care and spend my
life checking boxes, as if I speak in perforations?
No! Don't be a lazy ass! Stand up and take control of your sensory input.
Until we gain control of our TV, don't watch it. If an online magazine
doesn't allow you to post responses to their articles, hack their server.
Instead, go hang out with a friend and write a dumb ass essay like this.
Show it to as many people as possible. Community access, email, postings,
handouts on street corners. Tell everyone that we are a civilization and
should make ourselves happy and as well entertained as possible. If some
people must remain pushed into submission by the media then let us entertain
them well. Is there an appropriate balance of active and passive citizens in
the US? Perhaps we are at that balance level now. If so I still feel like I
am on the passive side too much and that it is not easy to get on the active
side. If you wish to be in control of your life then be in control of it.
Working together towards this goal is necessary though. Entertainment is
politics.
In conclusion:
1. If you love civilization don't leave pubic hair on soap. As active
controllers of our environment even this small symbolic detail can be
detrimental.
2. Hippies hate existence and are just as evil as religious freaks.
High school indeed. Then in college you get all the shady side info. Especially that the majority of shit printed in the Ren was re-vamps of Roman mystical and pseudo-medical magic texts. The Ren was all about the blending of Style and Spirituality. So basically, a bunch of rich trendy kids thinking that they're the Buddha or something. If that's what this book is saying the internet is about now, slick. Otherwise, keep it live and focus on now - cuz being alive now means ya gots the privlage of knowing what everyone before yeah did and then more. perspective and shit. in other words, comparing seperate moments in history is kinda wack.
Carnage4Life speaking with his hands: How many people would be actively gay if all it took was a website lookup to determine their sexual preference? Carnage4Life still speaking with his hands: Whatever. I can see the tabloid headline NOW, "The internet drove me into sexual hiding!" Was this supposed to be evidence for your arguement? My only guess is that your writting style is supposed to be a mockery of maleness? I hope I'm right cuz it'd give you a sick sense of funny that'd dig. Identify with that. Jeffrey writes: Company A is suing group B to prevent group B from adding company A to a list. Once you distill it that far, it is an obvious restraint on free speech. then Silver A writes: The Supreme Court has explicitly ruled that "commercial speech" is afforded a lesser protection than political speech. The problem with turning this into a free speech debate is in that freedom of speech is supposed to be a right of actual people. The August/September 2000 Adbusters points out that corporate entities only gained access to constitutional protections once they became recognized as 'natural persons' under the Santa Clara County vs. Southern Pacific Railroad supreme court decision. This perverse mutation of buisnesses into people has given dangerous power to both companies like YesMail and MAPS. I am assuming that MAPS is a much less profit motivated group, and I respect their cause entirely, but they still are a buisness or sorts. Any buisness that has the same rights as people can use their power of free speech in combination with large sums of money to put up their words on billboards and tv ads while individuals must resign themselves to being voiceless in comparassion. I believe that MAPS should be supported. They defend people from the corporate word, aka the public word as weapon. It is not MAPS' freedom of speech that one needs to be concerned about. rather, we should be concerned with maintaining the right companies should have to defend individuals' freedom of speech. By undermining advertisment email, even ones that people have intentionaly subscribed to, MAPS is helping protect true freedom of speech, that of people.
As corporations and the entertainment industry get larger and larger, so does the amount of advertisements that are shoved down our throats everyday. Companies with lots of money are the ones in control of this uni-directional form of comunication that is so prevelant in our society. The ability to voice complaint on a large scale over the internet is still relativly powerless compared to a TV commercial. Never-the-less, the internet can be a step in the right direction as far as 'media as discourse' is concerned. Untill all forms of media are discourses that there will be no freedom of speech as far as entertainment politics go. What we have now is just the freedom of choice (barely) between sources of input.

There are quite a few online "labels" that just release in mp3 format. Often times, the anarchist side of corporate folk.
