    Have you noticed that all the new cdroms and burners have warning stickers now? They say not to use a badly scratched CD or risk having it exlode at high RPM. I sort of find that hard to believe, unless the thing is cracked already.

    That's the great thing, a good troll is funny and witty, and more than a little controversial. Taco says he doesn't mind that kind of trolling. He does mind the stupid crapflooding, and the mindless jokes that are run into the ground by 12 year olds with nothing better to do in computer class than post 10 of the same message that is a stupid lame joke.

    So yeah, this whole story is a troll. It's still fucking hilarious.

    BTW- You assholes that are taking part in the blackout and modbombing me for posting anti-blackout comments eariler, fuck off.

    If you post every day, you don't get to moderate, you probably fall in the "compulsive reloader" category, which I have been in for over a year, I think, even though I post about 3-4 messages a day on average, and hit maybe 100 pages total.

    Phone numbers and public listings cannot be copyrighted. There is precedent for this specifically, someone wanted to make an alternative phone book to the "official one" and it wound up in court. Court ruled that public listings like phone numbers cannot be copyrighted.

    KDE won't be faster unless it is compiled on something that does C++ a lot better than gcc. Even then, it's impossible for C++ to ever be as fast as C.

    Until you go to uninstall that app. Or maybe you run Red Hat or any FHS compliant Linux, but the app likes to dump things into /usr/local.

    For the first case, try the "checkinstall" utility, it's great, it makes an rpm out of "make install" output, for easy management.

    Last I checked they were moderate with a vaguely right wing tilt on fiscal/business/foreign policy issues and a vaguely left wing tilt on social issues.

    That's called moderate libertarianism, and it's pretty much the only philosophy that makes sense.

    But the fact that our brain has a "warm fuzzy feeling" reward system wired into it is itself altruism, of a subconscious kind.

    Trying to avoid getting into ethics or morality, even though we are spiraling ever closer to it, but what is to determine which reward triggering actions are altruistic, and which are selfish then?

    If I take drugs of some kind, and get the same reward pathways lit up in my head, that's trivially selfish to most observers. If I give money to charity for the same feeling, that's trivially altruistic. But what about the middle ground?

    What about the guy who is selling that baseball game and donating a part of the profits to charity? He is actively using that as a marketing tactic to sell more games. Is that altruistic or selfish? Maybe even he doesn't know for sure.

    I agree with you, my view makes true altruism meaningless, but I think there may be more truth in altruism being meaningless, then the common view of altruism as something quantifiable.

    That's a cop out. If you narrow "Linux" down to just the kernel, it's technically correct, but it allows you to ignore all the application space problems. That isn't productive.

    When I said "Linux", I meant "common Linux distributions". MIME has no meaning in the context of the kernel.
