  1. is everyone stupid? on Consumers Unlikely To Pay $500 for iPhone · · Score: 1

The iPhone is the ipod effect for the phone market. They make a high end top dollar Phone (like the $399 iPod was when it first came out with a 4GB HD) and afterward make more compatible cheaper versions that everyone else will buy. look at motorola V series.

What makes DRM so sad is, that in the unforseen future (past the next 100-300 years), the data formats we use now will be long obsolete. When things become obsolete, people ususually find a way to access them and learn about how things work, but with secure computing systems, and a huge precent of all important information being moved on these system, they may leave the next 50+ years of human history unreadable to future generations.

Man, X-windows is sorta adopting to become suited to what is needed. But due to compatibility, it can't be altered too much. This is the greatest advantage to GDI+(windowsXP) and Quartz(macosx-also this is a client server setup, but it's more intergrated like the beos solution) in the fact that they can change stuff as much as they need without catching flack.

And you are the reason why linux will never be #2 or #1. It's because of the attitude of people like you. The reason ms makes things simple is not to make it dumb to users, but to make it more quick to use and more universal. Why edit a file, just give me a quick graphical program. Editing text files takes longer and is counter-productive, that's the bottom line.

  6. Some IDEAS for Ogg developers on Real Will Include Ogg Vorbis Support · · Score: 1

Can we actually turn ogg past mp3 by including a checksum verifier that tags each file and can tell if you have the full version of a file. EX if i rip "Blah's greatest hits" and put it on a file sharing server, could it have a way of saying that everything is there when a person get the files. Also start a database of known ripped items. This would eliminate bad song files. Can we make the format more complete than a better than mp3 mp3? Also start a native file sharing system that would be otimized for the OGG format and support TRUE "Streaming" while saving, etc and would mask user information so file sharing would turn back to it's Total Anonyomus state. EX open the software, type in the artist, it goes to the artist database, sends a request to other unknown users with a IP and it would send the file to the ip in a special protocal. See, it's somewhat of a central server, except for the only information it has is IP's and it dosent handle downloads, it simply takes a code for a file and sends it out to other clients and tells their software to send the file to the User. simple filesharing, but if implemented could be better than gnutella (similar) but less bloated and more precise.

Also, the fact that the 66mhz PPC and a 68040 at 40mhz ran at almost the same performance increased this. When you bought a power mac, you bought into the future (irony) as if you ran a app under system 7.5 they both performed about the same on a classic or a power mac. macs didnt get fast until about 180mhz. the 601 was a slow risc chip that showed the future. ironically, most 601 system users never got a the promised future when they bought the hardware (copland os, rhapsody) all intended for the hardware. Apple is known for many strange os blunders (PINK , TANGENT OS, COPLAND,SYSTEM 7.5x, SYSTEM 7.7, And RHAPSODY)
