actually, it is how public private key cryptography works... you're talking about signing, sure, but you can also encrypt the whole message
and yes, you can add a symmetric encryption key, but that just adds a layer of encryption... and all of these are known, well documented and widely used protocols, be it "signing", encryption, or adding an encrypted key used to decrypt with another algorithm... all part of the field we know as PKI
"AML automatically turns on mobile data on the headset (which may lead to charges to the user), automatically contacts NTP servers and sets date, and sends IMSI/IMEI over unencrypted (but invisible to the user) SMS message."

emergency services do *not* need my IMSI / IMEI, they have my phone number (both from the call, as well as the SMS)... and that's even without going into the fact that this is sent in an SMS (the user will never know about), so security isn't even a word you can use in a debate about this.
we, developers, don't get access to the IMEI on iOS, it's against security policies (and rightly so), so I suspect this is part of the reason why Apple isn't replying to requests (which isn't the same thing as "refusing"!).
I'd rather have a secure phone, thank you very much... the benefits of this system do not outweigh the risks, it's not even close
exactly, VBS is a tool one can actually live with... I personally prefer bash (where available), but on "bare" Windows, I'll usually start (and end) scripting in vbs...
all the tools you need are on the system, notepad, explorer, and internet explorer (to access the documentation, a must for me *blush*)
but also, if you can "get away" with the least amount of effort, do it... no need to feel "ashamed" about using batch files, IMHO
put a sock in it... This is not a problem with Linux but with this (very specific) version of a Mozilla distribution... It has to do with Linux as much as install a virus infested Photoshop has to do with MS...
My corporate IT guidelines are too secure for me, a legit user. So, I'll have to compromise security in order to comply with guidelines.
Although I fully understand the issue (I'm having the same problems myself), that still is no excuse to compromise sequrity in such a fashion...
Instead of a simple text file, you could at least use a password manager (something like KeePass at sourceforge, for example, I like revelation for Gnome...)
I'm sorry, but what he's writing has no real meaning... I for one would not work for a company doing business in a manner so obviously different from my own beliefs...
Microsoft is out to get a big patent portfolio and that's it... This is not "playing the game" and still caring about progress, it's just getting a great offensive ready...
I do agree, that you have "to play to game", but you do not play the game as a deffensive player and put huge effort into lobbying for this game to continue... That's just rediculous...
If Microsoft would be trying to make software patents go away, I'd say "hey, patent away as much as you can to defend yourself"... But as long as they are doing everything to get software patents accepted in the rest of the world (that little piece of land outside the USA, yes), in my eyes, they are planning "world domination"...
And I for one, not believing in software patents, could not work for a company like that...
I don't remember them, I just remember how to type them in. If I have to tell someone, I have to go through the process of mentally "typing" the word
Ok, this is not related to the topic, but still...
Here in Slovenia various stores are switching to a "PIN code" based use of credit cards (instead of my signature on the receipt)... I personally think that's great and all, as I've been using my cards and PIN code on ATM machines for quite some time now...
Of course, I don't "know" my PIN code, I know how to type it... Guess what? The keyboards stores are using are "up-side-down" compared to the ones used on ATM machines...
"Microsoft believes that it has patent rights (patent(s) and/or pending applications(s)) that are necessary for you to license in order to make, sell, or distribute software programs that comply with one or more aspects of the Caller ID for E-mail Specification."
That's from the callerid_license.pdf document on their Technical Specification page...
True, it continues with:
"Microsoft and its Affiliates hereby grant you ("Licensee") a fully paid, royalty-free, non-exclusive, worldwide license under Microsoft's Necessary Claims to make, use, sell, offer to sell, import, and otherwise distribute Licensed Implementations, provided, Licensee, on behalf of itself and its Affiliates, hereby grants Microsoft and all other Specification Licensees, a reciprocal fully paid, royalty-free, non-exclusive, worldwide, nontransferable, non-sublicenseable, license under Necessary Claims of Licensee to make, use, sell, offer to sell, import, and otherwise distribute Licensed Implementations."
I get quite nervous when it comes to Misrosofts licences... I actually stopped reading the document after the second quote...
And you can go on with the "unfortunatly" list: Many of us do actuall programming... Like services on Win32... You need to be an administrator for this if you want to get something done in a reasonable timespan... Unfortunatly you will need some documentation of the API doing this... Unfortunatly MSDN comes in the form of help files (ok, extended and all, but it's still the same basic help system)

They get payed the same, but choose to work less...

get modern
oh, sorry... thought I read "get modem"... *blush*
probably because of low latency needs...
broad "predictions" that were nothing more than probable steps Apple might take... rumours ;)
citation needed...
really? rumours are accepted as facts here?
and now try to imagine a plug that could handle 380A :)

Yes, and it's called an iMac...

In the form of Moneta...
If that's all you can't imagine, you're way ahead of me...

I can believe you did, as I did the same ;)
Oh, so if you don't mind, why exactly do airplanes crash and kill hundreds of people?
because things do happen that you didn't foresee and didn't include on the checklist... switching on a receiver is not one of those things...
Hm... will it also record this rewinding and playback? :)
Take my payload!!! :D
Let me guess... You call your opinion an objective one, right? :D
;)
But still, I completly agree with you... And I'm not a marina... ups, sorry... a marine!

Wouldn't that be cruel? At least give him a Gnome desktop...
