actually, it is how public private key cryptography works... you're talking about signing, sure, but you can also encrypt the whole message
and yes, you can add a symmetric encryption key, but that just adds a layer of encryption... and all of these are known, well documented and widely used protocols, be it "signing", encryption, or adding an encrypted key used to decrypt with another algorithm... all part of the field we know as PKI

emergency services do *not* need my IMSI / IMEI, they have my phone number (both from the call, as well as the SMS)... and that's even without going into the fact that this is sent in an SMS (the user will never know about), so security isn't even a word you can use in a debate about this.
we, developers, don't get access to the IMEI on iOS, it's against security policies (and rightly so), so I suspect this is part of the reason why Apple isn't replying to requests (which isn't the same thing as "refusing"!).
I'd rather have a secure phone, thank you very much... the benefits of this system do not outweigh the risks, it's not even close
exactly, VBS is a tool one can actually live with... I personally prefer bash (where available), but on "bare" Windows, I'll usually start (and end) scripting in vbs...
all the tools you need are on the system, notepad, explorer, and internet explorer (to access the documentation, a must for me *blush*)
but also, if you can "get away" with the least amount of effort, do it... no need to feel "ashamed" about using batch files, IMHO

Instead of a simple text file, you could at least use a password manager (something like KeePass at sourceforge, for example, I like revelation for Gnome...)

Microsoft is out to get a big patent portfolio and that's it... This is not "playing the game" and still caring about progress, it's just getting a great offensive ready...
I do agree, that you have "to play to game", but you do not play the game as a deffensive player and put huge effort into lobbying for this game to continue... That's just rediculous...
If Microsoft would be trying to make software patents go away, I'd say "hey, patent away as much as you can to defend yourself"... But as long as they are doing everything to get software patents accepted in the rest of the world (that little piece of land outside the USA, yes), in my eyes, they are planning "world domination"...
And I for one, not believing in software patents, could not work for a company like that...

Of course, I don't "know" my PIN code, I know how to type it... Guess what? The keyboards stores are using are "up-side-down" compared to the ones used on ATM machines...

And you can go on with the "unfortunatly" list: Many of us do actuall programming... Like services on Win32... You need to be an administrator for this if you want to get something done in a reasonable timespan... Unfortunatly you will need some documentation of the API doing this... Unfortunatly MSDN comes in the form of help files (ok, extended and all, but it's still the same basic help system)
