I always thought a solution might be to automatically post a link to the Google cache as the first post for every story. That would kill two birds with one stone - dilute the/. effect -and- nullify the first-post crowd. What's the fun in claiming "second post?"
Except for 'fresh' things that Google hasn't picked up yet.
Monday, March 18th at 7pm, one of the Vice Presidents of the MPAA will be speaking at the main (I think?) branch of the Broward County Library with the public invited for a question/answer session.
Of course, if you listen to WLRN for any great length of time during the day, you know this;)
You really need another option for the poll... I subscribed but I won't re-up because I don't see the value.
The page view thing is good for occasional readers, but you really need a time one, too, if you are going to do this. Any plans?
However, I likely won't be re-upping... I don't see the value. I have now seen the ads, and well, I likely won't be back, either. If I have to put up with ads, I might as well go for "real" news sources rather than, well, here. I'm not getting a value for "subscribe for no ads".
Just filter him out, only takes a few minutes... after a while, you stop comparing others to him and suspect it's a "ringer".
That said, I'm quite impressed with MegaTokyo and that Piro and Largo (Fred and ???) have kept it going despite the trials that are life.

(gotta like Netflix) and it's pretty good, but not worth buying for me. What I'd like to see is a Simpsons DVD compendium of the Halloween Episodes. I'd pay almost as much for that as I would the Sopranos at the by-season-rate.
Glad to hear that even if Futurama is cancelled (noooooo) they are going to do the DVD route. Futurama is a great example of computers being used to further illustrate and extend cartoons without overshadowing the plot or storyline simply because it is possible.
Guido the firewall won't let me see stile... thanks for the brief.
For the uninitiated, WWN is THE cheesiest, worst supermarket tabloid ever. It's always good for a laugh or two, and sometimes I miss it here in Europe. It makes the Sun and the National Enquirer both look like the pinnacles of objective and researched journalism. Lots of stories on two-headed cyclops cannibal babies with 280 IQs and the ability to channel Nostradamus.
IIRC, they are all owned and run by AMR the group that had their photojournalist die of Anthrax?
Exactly. They're allowed to take advantage of better makeup and not be blamed. They should propogate it back to all "periods" in the show. It's not like it's a religion (where its in their best interest to promote continuity), it's a TV show.
EWWWWWW... once you start, where does it stop? I mean, Lucas went in and did the same thing for the original StarWars Trilogy and changed the plot while he was at it. BAD LUCAS! NO SOUP FOR YOU! I Like the fact that originally Han Solo shot first.
In fairness, I was up way too late two nights ago, and quickly submitted a report to/. regarding "Taliban Delares Holy War on U.S." that was on CNN (TV) prominently displayed. In this case I'm glad it was rejected. Fifteen minutes later, there was a rephrased "Taliban Warns of Possible Holy War" or something to that effect. MSNBC followed suit and misreported, then "lightened up". This also occurred on the respective websites.
Even later in the day, on my way to work that next day NPR stated "Afghanistan declares war on the US". It shocked the hell out of me... I listened as closely as I could throughout the rest of the morninig... nada. Then I started getting the "might declare" from the Canadian News Service.
In fact, here on Slashdot, three days doesn't pass without some huge screed pasted on the main page by some leet haxor named Jon Katz. I don't know why Taco doesn't plug up whatever vulnerability that kid is exploiting to deface Slashdot.
You can filter him out on Slashdot here. Now if only they could extend it to Marketplace.
I have to see something several different places (which are not obviously merely copying one another) before I'll start to seriously give it much consideration as fact--and even then, realize that large parts of the story will be missing or incorrect for other reasons.
But that again is the power of the accessability of the internet... I could have sat glued all day to NBC and gotten only their version of the story, as I had with Challenger.
Instead, I listened to NPR and others monitored the BBC and Canadian News and local (New York, Florida, DC) news as well as every news site we could find... we combined our resources on a messageboard and were able to quickly sort out the wheat from the chaff. I didn't have to read all of the sites, we all read diffferent sites and combined the results.
Thank you, I really liked those and am glad that you suggested it.
IIRC, each game came with the answers... in a book or other place you could look them up (Where in Time had a Desk Encycolopedia), encouraging research and thinking.

I thought it was a bit ironic that RR was advising everyone to be aware of the possibility for infection.. nevermind the fact that you're not supposed to be running a server.
But if you are running OFFICE2000 with FRONTPAGE2000 you are vunerable, too.

because no matter what your settings are you can't turn the damn ads off!

If I come back, it will be with an ad blocker.
I dunno. I wouldn't pay $9.95 a month to read Something Awful, but I don't get to Slashdot very often, so I like the pay per view as an option.
Though I agree it shouldn't be the only option.

I generally get the good porn site spam. Mostly.
They aren't looking for geeks, they are looking for anyone. I mean, after all don't all of us hackers watch Buffy anyway?
Acutally if you tuned out some of the dialog and listened to the background music you got more of the space/inspiration type music.
Did you turn it off early? I sat through two hours and I know there weren't 78 minutes worth of commercials, though it may have seemed like it.
Like other posters have said, DS9 sounds nothing like "stock StarWars".
Besides, John Williams borrowed the Original StarWars theme rather heavily anyway.
But what is the periodic table the rest of the time?
Sometimes wish there was something other than "rejected" ... you know, like "hey dumbass we already posted that"
Sony _is_ 'protecting' Michael Jackson's CD's Sorry slash, I sent it to you first, you didn't want it so I picked it back up.

Dildo-cams are real and in use... however they are ultrasound. And uncomfortable. I can't see one being converted to pr0n use.

No, it passes through. But you have to realise that the equipment to support it costs $20,000 USD. (I heard it on NPR this a.m.)
What I found funny, however, is that when I clicked on the article to verify that it carried this information as well, an X10 Camera Ad popped up.
