Most of these game stores (EB and Babbages Etc./Funcoland stores) don't accept returns on consoles *period*. They will do an exchange only if the unit is defective, and only it it falls within a very small timeframe, unless you purchase an ESP replacement guarantee. Why is this the way that it is? They can't resell an opened system as new. The retail store's only option is to sell it in as a used system, which puts them at a loss. This isn't just the rules of the store, but want the console manufacturers want the retail stores to do. This is why they won't take them back.

There is also most likely no television that will not work with your unit. This excuse will not work, and the salespeople know this. If you have a problem, they will sell you an RF adapter. If you need an RF adapter your prehistoric GE television probably shouldn't be playing a Gamecube anyway.

This sums it up very well:

Want a refund on your Gamecube?

Now, there were a few stores that were offering refunds, but only if you bought it within a day or two of the recent price drops.

About EA though; I don't really think that they are going to be quite as big in the coming years as many people may think. Their popularity was largely due to the Sony franchise, and with better sports games coming from SEGA, I am not disappointed in this deal with EA.

I don't have any problems with the speed of the software on a PII 550. I must agree with you though. The software is VERY impressive. I have been putting it through all sorts of tests at work. It handles DOC files like a dream. I have been able to open them, and resave them as DOC files that MSOffice seems to also like. I occasionally have problems with DOC files that use complex tables and such, but I really think that this would satisfy 90% of people that use it. Let's not forget to mention just how flexible it is with it's native formats. Every Excel file that I have opened has worked PERFECTLY. I have saved them after making changes to the file, and Excel can open them up perfectly. Once again, the native OpenOffice format is just as flexible as what Excel can be with it's own format, but the OpenOffice software has no problems with Excel files at all.

This is perhaps one of the greatest peices of Open Source software that I have seen for some time. I can guarantee that this is going to be big... Really big.

I can't say that I disagree. The Dreamcast was totally unappreciated, but it is pointless to convince someone of something different. Many people are just overly-obsessed with Sony products, and don't realize that there are better, less expensive products out there. JVC and Panasonic make televisions that are on par, or better than the Vega/Wega units.

Nothing can change the fact that in 2001 the best selling PS2 games were mostly Dreamcast ports. Fortunately, a lot of the excellent games like Skies of Arcadia are making their way to the PS2 to finally be appreciated by the folks that thought that the PS2 was the end-all-be-all in gaming.

The truth is that the ignorant folks know only of a "Pentium" name, a patented term. They sell them because they are familiar.

I personally love AMD. Have have never had any stability problems with their CPUs. In fact, AMD and Cyrix have always been more reliable products for my uses. I will buy whatever is priced the best. If the P4s were cheaper than Athlons then I would buy the Intel product, and vice-versa.

The AMD products are more modern CPUs in design; efficent and more RISK-like in design. Until Intel can start making better products, that won't change. SSE-2 is the only benefit to the Intel CPUs, and hardly anything can make use of it. But when it is used, it drastically enhances performance.

Having used Lycoris, I can say that it is an excellent choice as a desktop OS. Everything works very nicely right out of the box. Installation is easy. There is only one of each type of program. The interface is clean. Configuration is totally easy.

Let me first say that I am an experienced user of Mandrake, Red Hat, Suse, and Slackware. This is the best choice in a lean simple-to-use distibution. It doesn't have all of the extra crap that you see on a Suse or Red Hat distribution, but it is simple to install for novice users, unlike Slack.

If you want to compile programs from sources, it is as simple as downloading and burning a 150 MB developer's ISO (there aren't 3 disks as the review states). The faq tells you how to install all of the delevoper's RPMS.

This is totally ideal for novice Linux users or businesses. Even Wine works right out of the box. I was totally impressed with this and as a result I ordered a retail copy even though it is the same as the download edition.

But why am I not using it on my main computer? I missed playing Metal of Honor: Allied Assult. I aim to buy a laptop soon, and I will be using Lycoris on that. It is an excellent solution, and a well-thought peice of software. I expect that the next release will be even better.

My only real complaint is the partitioning wizard. I didn't particularly like the way that it was structured in comparision to Mandrake's graphical wizard, or Slackware's fisk based setup. It just seemed to clunky (as it normally does on a Caldera install) and the best option is to just let it do a default partition setup.
