Ubuntu + WINE have finally reached the point where I could drop Windows. It was a loooong time coming.
I can run MS Word and Excel with no problem - faster than on Vista actually - as well as Photoshop. Dreamweaver for some reason just won't fly, but on those rare occasions when I want it I just boot back into Vista.
Unless you rely on some fairly uncommon Windows software there really is no reason to avoid Linux.
But most U.S. states have child labor laws that prohibit children aged 13 to 15 from working to afford the cheapest smartphone plan, which is $69.99 per month.
Hardly an issue since Mom and Dad are likely footing the cel phone bill.
Or the kid is selling drugs on the side to his school chums...
It's been my understanding that IMAX is really fussy about licencing their equipment and technology, and find it highly unlikely that they would allow its use for porn.
Of course we live in an age when you can buy an "IMAX" dvd - surely one of the more oxymoronic claims since "HD" radio came on the scene.
I don't entirely get all of the Ubuntu complaints.
Over the years I tried maybe fifteen or twenty different Linux distros. (back to the days of buying boxed sets of Mandrake floppy disks!) Each time I went back to Windows because I invariably ran into some problem that I just didn't have the time to figure out and fix. You know, little things like printers, modems, and video.
It's not that I don't like fixing things, or even learning new stuff, just that with Linux it was always so damned painful.
Two months ago I installed Ubuntu using their little Windows installer app, and I haven't looked back. Aside from one occasion when a specific Windows program wouldn't run under WINE, I have had no reason to fire up Windows. And when I did.. well, yuck.
You may call Ubuntu "dumbed down", but it's honestly the first distro I've seen that worked flawlessly out of the box with virtually no fiddling.
And of course you can still fire up a terminal window and enjoy the command line.
What can you say when the government launches a

There are fairly well established practices for handling charge-backs between divisions in a company, and well established ways of determining the dollar value of benefit to either the providing division, the receiving division, or the overall company.
And of course there are often reasons other than the immediate bottom line for purchasing services internally rather than outside - reasons that trump the "cheapest is best" attitude.
Assuming the CodePwned is not trained in Accounting, I'd suggest that he or she politely ask the person who is in charge of finances for an explanation for the costs involved.
Out of 1,000 tweets with the #worldcup hashtag during the game, only 16 percent were legitimate news
In a related story, out of 1000 books in the local book-mega-store, only 16% were worth reading, and out of 1000 TV programs only 16% were worth watching.
Frankly I would have thought that Sturgeon's Law applied to Twitter as well.
In these parts pretty much every coffee joint offers free Wifi, plus much better coffee than Starbucks.
Our local chain offers really good food, super staff, good coffee, and they encourage people to hang out, chat, and work. They may not turn over the space as frequently as Starbucks, but the shop is always full, and people keep coming back.
For office workers and business people there is a WebEx app, Keynote/Pages/Numbers office suite, Salesforce, and many other business-focused apps. Exchange is built-in. These users can easily switch from a 10 year old XP
It basically has everything that is good
Well, except cut and paste....

I'm not planning on going back.

So let me understand this. They cool the thing down an average winter temperature in half of Canada, and it's a big deal?
Already I see thousands of gamers running cables out their bedroom windows and leaving their rigs in the snowbank outside.

Oh, the number of times that I've heard that refrain... shudder
Does anyone know of any creative works that were provably a financial failure due to piracy?
Far as I can tell, out of 500+ comments, the answer is no. Then again, out of those 500+ comments, maybe a dozen actually address the question.

Sorry - most of the world doesn't elect judges, or dog-catchers for that matter, so sometimes are not up on the fine points of American jurisprudence.
And Americans wonder why the rest of the civilized world looks at them and shakes their head in disbelief.
THE GOVERNOR TWEETS AN EXECUTION HE ORDERED.
I don't know what's more appalling, that he did it, or that no-one seems terribly surprised.

Insightful! Informative! Funny! All of the Above!
Brilliant!!
At least with OSX it tells you exactly which keys are used for the shortcut right in the menu
Hate to break it to you, but MS products have done the same thing for ages. Except the menuless "ribbon" in Office, which uses tooltips instead.
