It's more than that the 4th and 5th are model designators. The 8th is for engine and 11th is for manifacture plant. The article skips the real problem the year A-Zwere used in the 80s and 90s. and 1-0 now ending with the 2010 model year. There were no complaints when it went to 17 digits in 1981. I say bite the bullet and go to a two digit year and add any more for new information and expantion. It would be probably be cheeper in the long run.
No they can't the aftermarket has pushed fedral law to require the manfactures to allow anyone to provide parts and service. Infact as part of OBD2 (the latest emision regs) they have to license reprograming emision computers to non dealers. Maybe automotive aftermarket laws could be used as a model for new legslation.
I have an HP Pavilion ze4145 laptop. I used a win98se disk to fdisk the harddrive and made a C: and D: it didn't touch the utility partition. Then I used the HP recovery CDs, I went into the advanced menu and slected install on C: only presurve D:. After installing the windoze xp I ran Redhat9.0 Install on the D: partition installed grub in the MBR and use it to boot both OSs.
I don't agree. My first experance with Linux was buying a box copy of Redhat 5.1. I was very pissed off with windows and it said it would run on my machine. I never got Xwindows working with that distribution but I got the bug and eventualy got to where I'm at now of using Linux (Redhat 9.0) almost exclusivly. If I didn't have that box I might have never switched
I have never liked computers for voting just for the what happens if the program or hard drive crashes ect. All votes are lost and no way to be sure of what you get back. I like the machines where I vote. They are the ones with the little switches and the big leaver you pull to open the curtain and reset the board. It's all old gears and clock work. The only problem is if something strips during the vote and then if you catch it immediately, stop using that machine and just use others you will have no problem. Also you could probably burn the thing and still get the vote. I'm just saying 19th century machines may be better for voting than 21st.
You can get a scan tool from many sourses (try Snap On) That will give codes and much more. The interface is described by law and must be adheared to by manufactures. The problem is not the codes or even repair manuels which are more important than just the codes. The real problem is training. The auto industry is one of the fastest changing ones. I have to spend a lot of time training just to keep up and I only work on GMs mostly Chevys. The independants multiply there problems by every manufacture they work on.
I don't think so. First your 100 HP engine will only produce 25-35 HP most of the time. Peak power is only produced during hard accerlation during cruse it's much lower and at iddle almost nonexistant. This is 99% of the time. Also an alternator only produses 1-1.5 KW. And the battery cannot be replaced it's needed to start the engine and supply power at low speed when your charging device is insufficent.
Let me preface I'm a Chevrolet mechanic.
First Onstar uses the car's speakers. It stops the radio feed then the Onstar operator can speak to you through them. I don't think GM will brake into the radio signal just to send an add, sense this will only piss off paying customers. You have to pay for Onstar. The first year is free but after that it's a subscription.
Now how it works. It has 3 parts a GPS sender, a cell phone receiver, and a control module. The GPS sensor records the car's position. The control module calls the Onstar center every 10 minutes if memory serves. It will also send messages such as the air bag has gone off and the operator can call you assuming you still have power. There are also blue Onstar and red emergency buttons you can press to initiate a call.
Now there is a lot of Big Brother things that can be done with this system but I don?t think Spam is one that GM would stoop to. However I wouldn?t do anything illegal in an Onstar equipped vehicle.
I use Zone Alarm for a firewall and Norton for virus protection from viruses and worms on my windoz partitions. I guess if your business is securty you sell good products but if you are micro$hit you can leave holes you can drive a bus through and only blame others
You have got your thinking crooked. By your argument lower temp superconductors would have lower restance than high temp ones that is not true.
Consruvatation of energy has nothing to do with the energy to obtain or maintain superconducting. That is why room temp superconductors would be so good.

Water injection does help an otto-cycle engine, making a non-trivial improvement in both mileage and NOx emissions.
Engines already use EGR to do this. The exhaust acts as an inert gas and reduses peak combustion temp to reduse NOx and spark knock. This is only done at part throtle and won't effect power. Water injtion displaces air thus reduse power. Water injection can help engines whose compresion ratio is to high for the fuel or mainly with super/turbocharging.
And it took into the 30's for GM to invent the model year change to encourage people to buy the latest style instead of holding onto their old cars. Just imagine what will come in one year or ten that no one can conceive of now. The internet of 2010 may be hard to recognize from what it is now
simple gasoline is more efficient than any alternative avilable. deisel the next best but the engines are heavy and much more expensive. natural gas requires high pressure cylinders and is slow and difficult to refuel. alcohol gets about half the milage as gasoline also it won't evaperate below 60deg so starting is diffcult plus ethanol is corrosive. but the power is better ask any racer. lead acid batteries are very heavy and slow to charge but are still best technology avalable now. hybrids are promissing but expensive. there is nothing to push gasoline off the hill yet fuel companies and EPA be damned.

I always read where a majority of the universe is "dark matter". But what exactly is "dark matter?

Well even a late Max is still "all good"

There is no evidence that there is a god or Jesus was any more a than man. The same as you or me.

The 2001 Corvette Z06 uses titanium exhaust from rear axel back including the mufflers.
