Who are you to compare their blindness to your big and tallness?
I'll bite... and see myself moderated so low, I'll be able to shake hands with Satan himself...
1- Blind people are in no way obligated to do business with non-blind friendly corporations. I've got blind friends who will just take their business elsewhere when that happens.
2- Everybody on/. is bitching whenever the government or other organisation tries to impose legislation on what you can/can't do with something that belongs to you. Well... Newsflash... If I start a business, it belongs to me. I can choose my customers whichever way I please. It might not be sound business practice, but last time I checked, they had not voted a law against stupid management. If I choose not to do business with green-haired people, it's my decision. I'm cutting myself off a revenue stream, but it's my problem.
So please please pretty please, try to bitch in a logical fashion.
Last December, I burned out, went on long time disability with my corporate insurance package, and three weeks later, kaboom! Get called in a meeting, where they tell me I'm no longer part of the company's plan.
They tried to have me sign a bunch of papers, which of course, I did not want to sign. Said I had to think it over. They even tried to pressure me into signing. I took them to a lawyer specialized in labor issues. He said I should just tell them to shove it. Legally, when on sick leave, you cannot be fired. So I decided to run with it, lodged a complaint with the labor board in Quebec. Real easy process to start.
Within days, I was contacted by one of their lawyers, saying I had done the right thing. Within a month, I had gone to mediation with my ex employer, got a very fat check out of it, a letter of reference, and a contact person at the company that will by law confirm whatever was written in the letter.
Lesson here: TALK TO A LAWYER.
Lesson 2: Get in touch with the labor board in your province. They are there to protect the WORKERS. They will side with you if you have a cause, or tell you up front you're wasting their time and yours.
'nuff said. Hope things will work out good for you.
...who is black? I assume you must be white because you are an Anonymous Coward, hiding in anonymity like a KKK member in a hood. As I remember, this statement was made at the National Action Network HQ. Are you going to debate that the Reverend Al Sharpton doesn't know who is black?
Race is not a skin color but an ethnicity. It's sad that this sort of message can be moderated as 'Funny' so quickly.
black & white are also not skin colors, and technically, are not even colors. I noticed that afro-americans are more of a dark brownish shade, and caucasian american are yellowish-pink. Even asians are not yellow. Get your pentone together before lashing at someone over something so futile.

My only complaint is it aches after a hot shower or bath, anyone have any scientific reason for why this would be?
The same happened to me. They initially put in surgical steel, and it turned out my body did not react happily to it. They then replaced it with Ti.
My uneducated guess about why it hurts when you take a hot shower / bath is most likely due to the fact that your bone take expansion, and that unfortunately, the Ti plate does not... And is very well anchored therefore putting a strain on both bone pieces.
"Pirates seek to profit off the enormous popularity of DVDs by using the latest in technology to illegally manufacture DVD copies of Hollywood films, and again dupe consumers into purchasing a wholly inferior product," MPAA Chief Executive Jack Valenti said in a statement.
Wholly inferior in what way ? No spam insert ? No nice picture on the cover ?
Someone please correct me, but isnt the whole point of copying a DVD not to lose quality in the process ? What ? Are counterfeit burners going to drop a few 1 ans 0's in the process ?
I think the only thing inferior here is the money going into Valenti's pocket.
The COS is NOT a church, it is a pyramid scheme!!
And what, praytell, is the Catholic Church? How many big ornate temples funded by guilt-induced contributions does it take to qualify?
I usually stay out of religious issues, but this one was too nice to pass...
Be it roman catholic, orthodox, islam or budhism, they do not REQUIRE you to sink large amount of money into their coffers. As far as I can understand, $cientology requires money from it's sheeps^H^H^H^H^H^Hfollowers in order to attend, and progress in the so called "religion". Furthermore, they're a religion only in the US if I'm correct, being rated anywhere from cult to scam everywhere else in the world. Plus, no amount of money will get you higher up in roman catholic religion. Even if you invest billions you'll never become pope.
Makes me sad for all those who got swindled into becoming $cientologists... Exploitation of human misery at its best. I cannot believe that all their members have joined willingly without being somewhat brainwashed...
Interestingly enough, the military uses Exchange for most of their non-secure email traffic (which is part of the reason the Air Force is getting on MS's case about security). Hmm.
Keywords here are : AIR FORCE and NON-SECURE.
Air Force and CIA, last time I checked were two very different branch... One being Army, the other one being government intel. (but then again, I'm a canuck, so what do I know.).
I'm pretty sure that for secure comms, Air force probably uses some weird mainframe based home-brewed system, and stays far far far away from Ms Exchange... I would not even be surprised that they still use some kind of point to point paper based teletype for all the really important stuff. I would not trust nuclear launch orders to a computer transmission... I guess they would not either...
Because Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino is the only mail product that gives email administrators zero access to information within mail files. Each Notes database has an access control list, and you can specify who's on it. The mail server can have "depositor" access, which means it can only place information inside the database. The database can also be encrypted so that only the server can read it -- meaning someone has to steal a copy of the database itself off of the file system, in order to have a chance at decryption.
Little known fact: The password entry box you get when logging in to a domino client/server setup with the 4 little hieroglyphs, is a CIA-requested add-on. That and the random amount of X's you get when you punch in the password.
Also, stealing a copy of the database will not help you if persistent ACL's were set up.
Other nice features of Domino is that you can have multiple level of access within each documents, meaning that group XYZ would have read access to the entire document, while group XY would only get 2/3rd of the forms in it, and group X would get only 1/3rd of the forms within the document.
Reasons why they're not using Exchange ? Well... Exchange did never get its security clearance...
even where great care and attention has been given to firewalls and the like, there will still exist employees who will disclose information, and there is still always the capacity for human error.
I remember reading a CIA "new employee" handbook on the net once (not even starting to wonder if it was the real thing or not.), and they have some pretty compartimentalized (sp?) operation. One hand does not know what the other is doing, and they like it that way. This helps keep the human variable out of the equation. Sure, it will not prevent leaks, but it will restrict them to a small percentage of the overall project. It will make it harder, see impossible to gather 100% of the information without corrupting 100% of the employees... And I'd be really surprised if "Chuck the Webmaster" had any knowledge of any juicy stuff in there... He's standing on the wrong side of the air-gap, most likely not even located with the "real" CIA datacenter...
If only half of those 250,000 users were to donate 1$ to slashdot, it would make 125000$ which IMNSHO covers the costs of colo for a while. Hell. For 125000$ I can get me a couple of T1 for a year...
Now, factor in 250,000 readers each chipping in 10$ for a year. We're talking money here... Some 2.5M$. Which should cover for slashdot, and slashdot jr. and the whole family.
Katz: It's NOT a trilogy. It's SIX books. You could have AT LEAST read through the introduction of the first book that stated this in the first page.
Now, as far as the SW reference goes, well, I've seen the following pattern quite often in my short lifespan. You have the good guys, the bad guys, something worth fighting for and a princess somewhere (and yes there is a princess in LOTR.)
Should the guy that wrote the first knight & dragon story sue Lucas for plagiarism ?
Someone has to make a grill front, sectional locking cab for hosting companies.
APC makes some really nice racks with grill front. Plus, it being APC, you can be pretty sure that a 3KVA + battery expansion will not make it collapse into a pile of junk.
We purchased a couple of server from these guys earlier this year.
The whole enchilada, fully loaded, with all the support gravy our budget can afford.
Well. We got screwed. Had we bought Compaq, Dell or IBM, at least, our support would have been guaranteed for at least our initial contract. Now what prevents them from just bailing out on all those expensive contracts ? (We've replaced more parts on these servers then on all our Compaq & IBM's combined.)
This is really sad to say, but it goes to show that sometimes the little guys can't play in the adult's yard. When you need reliability, you better buy from established companies.
In Québec, the main cable provider (Videotron) charges a fee after 3 Gigs of download and 1 Gig of upload.
Couple of corrections here... replace "main" by "only" cable provider and replace 3 gigs by 6 gigs, and you got a pretty accurate picture.
ADSL in Quebec blows big time unless you get commercial DSL at 4mb. Get the 1mb from Sympatico, and expect your link to die for no reason, for your IP address to change every 15 minutes and sometimes change while you're connected somewhere and make your connection fail. Also expect to install some lame-ass piece of software (Access Manager) that will screw your machine if you try to uninstall it. As far as "flat rate" goes, re-read your TOS from Bell. They reserve the right to bill you if you over use your link, but they do not state how much data is "overuse". That's what the phone monopoly will provide you.
1 week pager duty, on rotation paid 8 hours extra.
Any calls you got on that paid a minimum of 3 hours (which is minimal call-back pay in Quebec). The year I worked there, my OT pay was 1.5 time bigger then my regular pay.
Thank God we dont have a BSA here. We rely upon the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for larger computer license frauds. You just HAVE to trust a clown riding a horse to properly enforce licensing schemes.
How many parents would send their kids to a "Geek" school ?
I think that there is potential for a school (or group of school) that caters to the interests of the geek crowd. I'm pretty sure that recruiting competent and caring teachers would be easier when you offer them an environment where students are curious, smart and interested in learning.
I've seen a lot of alternative school programs, and most of them tend to cater to "artistic" kids. What about our little scientific or computer geniuses ? Shouldnt they have a school that is there for them ?
My cell phone doesn't *have* a vibrate mode. It's a Nokia 5160 -- the one that people like to give out for free with service -- and I need to buy a $100+ addon (actually a new battery, go figure) if I want it to be able to vibrate.
Actually, you gan get a vibrating clip from the Fido Store that will let stick the phone in silent mode and make the clip vibrate. Added bonus: Works off a AAA battery, and will not drain your phone's juice. Cost is : 30$ canadian.
How about the fact that unless people realize that 1 in 10 are gay, they'll consider it freakish.
I'll admit that it's tacky, but I'll continue to be loud and proud for as long as neccesary.
Ok...
I think what the other poster refer to is the contradiction in making a big show out of the fact that you are gay, and making an equally big show out of the fact that you should not be discriminated against/being seen differently.
I hang around with a lot of gay persons. Best music I've listened to was played in gay club. I usually hang around in gay dance club, just because people are not there looking for a fight, or for a fuck. Problem is: I dont look as any of my gay friends as "gays". I look at them as friends. No freaking difference. I dont mind who/what they're banging/in love with. The main point here is : We're all humans. (well most of us anyways.) and there should not be a need to blatantly advertise what your orientation is.
Sorry if that came out weird. I just felt it had to be said. 'nuff said.
Let me start off with the usual : I do not believe that engaging in sexual activity with a minor is a good thing. I think most of these guys should be shot.
With that being put out of the way, it's only digital. It's not a real picture of a real kid doing a real whatever. So how would one go about dating the age of a bunch of pixel ?
Worst case scenario, one could claim that the image is the result of a complex mathematic equation (which could certainly be produced as evidence if need be.).
If the government is supplying methadone to heroine addict, why would it not supply virtual kiddie porn to sexual predators, to help them overcome the habit ?
And then again. The virtual depiction of the kid could also represent a 700 years old character. Should we really base age checking on the "looks" of a person ? If you're short, smoothly skinned, you're under 21 ? NOT!!!!!!!!!!!.
Finding a job is never that simple. *NEVER*. The last time I checked the rule of thumb was 1 week for every 10k you earn. So the person in question here would have looked for 2.5 weeks, over one pay period, looking for a job. Then they have to wait one more pay period before they get paid. When I was working for 25k I was living paycheck to paycheck. A 1 month interruption was not acceptable. I doubt it is for this person, either.
Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong... It depends on where you're located, who you know and what you know. If what you know is what they need it's even better.
My second job (4 years ago, during the begining of the whole Y2K craze), had yearly performance reviews. I rated 2nd department-wide, and was offered 4% raise. I politely told them to shove it up sideways, handed over my resignation, picked up my nerf gun and 1US Gal. coffee mug on the way out, crossed the street, and 20 minutes later signed a contract. 2 weeks later, got a first paycheck. (no pay interuption. you got to know when to quit.)
Most of the time, I'll quit upon signing up for a new job. I always sign at "my" condition (min. 3 weeks vacation, 2 weeks training, healthcare insurances, and any freebie they throw at regular employees.).
I get a load of job offers every week, and at least 2 solid leads monthly. I'm not a genius, I dont program and I wont do windows. I'm just a run-of-the-mill sysadmin with a knack for setting up call centers.
The longest unemployed period I had was a saturday-sunday pair 2 years ago. Quit on friday, start on monday. It's the IS business. You shake a tree, and jobs fall off.
I'll bite... and see myself moderated so low, I'll be able to shake hands with Satan himself...
1- Blind people are in no way obligated to do business with non-blind friendly corporations. I've got blind friends who will just take their business elsewhere when that happens.
