Carefully using a comparison to Mussolini to avoid Godwins Law I see:)
I switched to galeon as well because I hate XUL. Its slow, inconsistent with the rest of the system and there arent even many mozilla themes that you can install (which kind of defeats the whole point of having a theming engine). I find Galeon is much smoother and a lot more responsive. In fact, combined with galeons other features (superior tab handling and session recovery) there really is no contest.
Not really an art project, but I am part of the Freedoom Project which is working to create a full doom game. Combined with the GPLed Doom source, when done it will result in a complete free game. Part of the hope is that Doom will continue to live on in an open (as in Open Source) fashion.

Why should you need to? Unless you're upgrading to a new major version which breaks binary compatibility with the previous, you shouldnt need to. This is kind of the point of shared libraries...
Its using the default Gtk theme, but I'm using metacity as the window manager. The default window manager is sawfish. I dont know why it has 2 X buttons:)

24-bit True Color, or 8 bits per pixel, is not enough. Microsoft is pushing graphics board vendors to implement greater than 8 bpp in order.
This is great! Its so awful being stuck with only 256 colours to choose from! Think of all the different shades of blue they'll have in the next version of windows!

No, the kernel is called linux, RMS's dispute is that what is called "linux the operating system" is actually a modified version of GNU using the linux kernel, hence GNU/Linux.

Um, no, not even the FSF are _that_ pedantic. GNU uses Xfree86 which is non-GNU free software.
> HURD, well.. still seems like a revenge type thing to me.
Revenge for what? Hurd has been under development for longer than Linux has. Check your facts.
The mission of the Apache Portable Runtime (APR) is to provide a free library of C data structures and routines, forming a system portability layer to as many operating systems as possible
What is the difference between this and the glib library which the GNOME programs use? This seems like the same kind of thing. Granted, it does seem to include some extra stuff which glib doesnt have, but still..
I have to agree with this. I am the author of Text Mode Doom and I hit a problem along these lines during development: the RGB value itself is not particularly useful when trying to find a numerical value for a particular "colour" that the human eye perceives. In text mode doom I was faced with the problem of mapping the particular colour value to a corresponding text colour, of which I was limited to a small value (under 16). I solved the problem by converting the RGB values into HSV and then assigning text colours to the real colours based on their hue. The results I found with this were quite impressive
I want to encourage other developers to look at targeting
existing compilers and interpreters to the CLI: JavaScript, Basic,
Perl, Python, C++, and maybe even get gcc core to generate CIL
bytecodes.
I for one am fed up of seeing so many anti-.Net posts by people who cant seem to see beyond "it's Microsoft, therefore it must be evil". The software industry, as I see it, is moving more and more towards web-services and Internet-connected programs, and it seems to me quite possible that in 5 years time, a large portion of the programs people run and use on a daily basis will be managed (CLR, JVM etc.) programs.
I see a lot of posts here in this article by people who seem convinced that Ximian/Mono/GNOME is now evil because it has a vague link to Microsoft, but it seems to me that support for.Net is probably going to become vital if Linux/Open Source wants to remain a serious competitor to Microsoft. Will companies continue running their servers on Linux if they can't run.Net servlets on it? Will the relatively few Desktop Linux users continue using it if they cant access the sites that run on.Net?
Consider also, that the Microsoft CLR _is_ a managed bytecode system in exactly the same way that the Java JVM is. If companies start migrating to writing managed programs rather than native ones, it instantly solves one of the key problems that Linux faces - the lack of Applications available.
Ximian isnt evil. They're making something which is quite possibly vital for the future of Open Source Software.
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - January 7, 2001 - ZeoSync Corp., a Florida-based scientific research company, today announced that it has succeeded in reducing the expression of practically random information sequences. Although currently demonstrating its technology on very small bit strings, ZeoSync expects to overcome the existing temporal restraints of its technology and optimize its algorithms to lead to significant changes in how data is stored and transmitted.
Note the wording: "Practically Random", not "Random". This of course does throw some doubt on this claim, as "Practically Random" could mean anything...
You are wrong. Hurd and Darwin are similar in that they are both Microkernel in structure and use the Mach Microkernel as a base, but above that they are totally different.

See, the sketches werent dead, they were just resting.
I'm more of a gaming rocker myself.
- Alcohol wouldnt keep you warm (parent post). Surely a mountain hiker would know this?
- You can make mobile phone emergency calls without a SIMM card
- Throwing batteries into snow does not recharge them
- Heres a question of my own: how is this guy able to get mobile phone reception up a mountain?
In short, it sounds like CNN were hoaxed.> Doesn't naming a Linux distro after a religion violate some sort of public license?
Fortunately, this would only have been a problem if they had named it "Scientology Linux"..

The new terminal program, yelp (help system) and the sound recorder. You can see the anti aliasing support at work in the yelp window.
Heres one. This isnt actually RC1 but I installed it a few days ago so it should be fairly close.
OpenBSD has no SMP support. I guess they probably wanted to be able to use both processors in their dual G4 powermacs
