    Silicon Spin. Some people do not like Dvorak, but his show was entertaining. I loved how at the height of the dotcom boom, he would have on all these starry-eyed CEOs and ask them how they were going to compete. Had I paid a little more attention to their responses back then, I would have avoided some pretty sad companies...

    And I'm sure that the alien races we will encounter will not have their own conflicts. It's one of those things with free will: everybody is rowing in their own direction. The only way to get everyone rowing in the same direction, all the time, is to have a hive infrastructure.

    Selling a bottle of water for $20 isn't fraud (although it's unkind). Telling people that their donations are going to help tsunami victims, when in fact it's going to buy your new car, is fraud.

    Exactly. If you're driving a Geo, 60 MPH is your max. If you're driving a Lexus, BMW, or something more expensive (in the sports car arena), max speed should be 120MPH.

    This is the same kind of bullsh*t that goes on in public schools today. It's not about each person being driven to do their best, it's about getting the LCD (Least Common Denominator, my term for them) to pass the class. You could have a classroom full of MENSA candidates and one idiot, and the whole class will be held back by the idiot (according to today's standards).

    Not pay taxes, but that's for many reasons.

    I'm curious why in these discussions on slashdot, there's always a match between Christianity and Evolution, but none of the other religions. What does Judaism or Islam say on these matters?

    And if you're going to teach kids Christianity and Evolution, why not teach them a few more? Throw in some eastern religions, make things interesting.

    Yes, the contractors do have a lot of political sway. But spending a $100 billion on the homeless is just as useless.

    What do homeless programs and defense contractors have in common? Corruption. How about $100 billion tax cut? Or, better yet, slash a few more programs and give the people a $20 trillion tax cut. That will do a lot more to stimulate the economy that this homeless program bullsh*t or missile defense system.

    No, I'm not a troll. But Chinese tech is far behind standard US tech. We've gone from making bigger bombs to smaller, more precise ones.

    Yeah, let's give them to China for a while. I mean, I love chinese food and working out, so eating ramen noodles while working the rice paddies in our commune.

    Or perhaps you think Western Europe would be better suited to the task? I mean, if you think the US power-plays, you haven't been to France. The US is in the local leagues compared to the French (major leagues).

    Yeah, sure. Look, have you seen the kind of products coming out of China lately? They'd have to fire off 10 nukes, just so one of them could make it across the Pacific (well, Polar Ice cap). Hell, factor out a targetting system like GPS, and on a good day, the nuke would come within a couple miles of its target. And a nuke hitting the Atlantic instead of the White House will have little effect (water dissipates radiation rather quickly, and acts as a wonderful dampening agent). And you can be sure, that while their nukes may miss, ours won't.

    By the time China gets a man on the moon or figures out how to identify a target by sight, nuclear fusion and orbital lasers will be achieved, making the discussion moot.

    Wait, you're responsible for getting unstable drivers onto the WHQL? I'll kill you. I've had it up to here with unstable drivers. I lost a RAID set to unstable drivers that passed the WHQL.

    I mean, cheating on benchmarks is one thing (the card is just slower than it benchmarks), but the WHQL is supposed to be a stop gap measure: sure, it's Windows, we hate Windows, whatever. But where I work, we use it. And WHQL drivers are something that you're supposed to be able to lean on; they're drivers that may not be the latest, greatest, but they will work.

    I can't tell you how long it took to track down that the RAID WHQL certified drivers were the problem. It's something you're supposed to be able to put a little checkmark next to when diagnosing problems, a "it can't be that!".

    Wait, how is nuclear unsightly? With the huge cooling towers, a nuclear powerplant looks like a cloud factory (white, fluffy clouds).

    Coal is unsightly, wind mills are just horrible. I prefer a clear, green landscape, if covered only in grass (preferably trees), to a couple thousand fast moving, triple-bladed behemouths.

    Hydro isn't that bad, but creates unwelcome effects.
