I must be really out of the loop: Since when were _any_ winmodems working for linux? Seriously, I thought that would take hardware companies being nice and releasing massive amounts of specs (and isn't alot of it hardcoded into windows itself) or a MASSIVE amount of reverse engineering?
came out first for mac, and not many people are going to go buy a new computer, but when it hit linux a week (?) later, a lot of people fouind themselves installing linux and fighting with glide...
prominent game sites, gamespot.com comes to mind, actually had articles up within days on how to install linux just to play quakeiii
the Beos Filesystem, which is now at least five years old has been offering these sort of essentials for now 5 years. The only real regret is how its no longer a true database....
Eamon was a little apple basic program that allowed you to make a little hack'n'slasher and walk around in a severly stunted ZORK universe. It featured plug in adventures, where authors could rework special commands, etc.
Adventures are still being dripped and there's a quarterly newsletter print (though the back issues are available here.) The openning paragraphs are a great read, if a bit depressing.

The maintainer is also putting out a CD containing all the adventures, perfect for any emulator or APPLE// thats still working. Search rec.games.eamon for more info.
On an aside, Trinity by infocom is still beyond amazing, and people are still getting stuck in Zork every year...
For those using linux, about 90% of the games should work for you, if not more. Check out

Well, other than the fact it requires an external power source, are there any stats on the voodoo6?
Because, from all teh comparisons I've seen of the new voodoo cards vs. teh nvidia and riva's, voodoo is loosing the FPS war. badly.
Interactive fiction has become a great little movement, with very active usenet groups, rec.arts.int-fiction, and rec.games.int-fiction, annual competitions www.textfire.com, cross platform support is excellent, and an excellent archive: ftp.gmd.de/if-archive
With the infocom language properly reverse engineered, parser support is top notch.

An Beck or Current 93 fans accidently download Dan Rathers talking about varfious horrors when searching for the aftermentioned bands? Actually alot of songs that include RARE in the title are actually this song. Funny song. AC/DC beats, supposidly by the Evolution Control Comittie, a rap group. Happy Mento Eaters by Beck is always this song.
That doesn't seem right at all.... I constantly am getting stuff from bands with avante garde names or if I hotlist someone with similiar music taste, you can find some unsigned bands as well.
And there is no bigger rush for myself, then the occasions when I type "bratwurst orange" and see my music up for trade. It's great. Uh, so check out my band too.
As an aside, my side project, XIR (xir is recursive) has banned me for making a song called "kill everyone who works at mp3.com" bad taste? sure, but it was obviously a joke and I put it in the comedy genre and deleted it when they put it on hold, but now XIR is no more on mp3.com

at Bennington. He's a real nice guy, gave out a bunch of copies of his book, and used to work for SUN.
As I understand it, it's self published, Rosalita Publishing is his creation and named after their dog. I kept on telling him to get it reviewed on slashdot, hopefully now he won't starve to death:)
Every other week it's something new with the Genome, with a catch, twist (puns, bleh) or something else. I'm not blaming slashdot for posting it, I'm just not sure when I should get excited now.
One of my teachers is working on protein folding, and has about 45% accuracy using nueral networks and genetic algorithms. Is there any ever protein folding news?
www.pushove.com/song.mp3 A tribute to the 8 bit system of yesteryear performed by Dayeight (me on vox and coathanger on shopping cart) and Darth Omega backing vox and gee-tar) outside of wallmart. so-so quality.

Infocom's HG2TG Bablefish puzzle is considered one of the greatest puzzles of all time. Beuacracy is considered one of the hardest, but fair, games ever. With the new resurgance of text adventures/interactive fiction in the last couple of years, and the idea that games like Zork will actually have longer life spans, with the coming of handheld wireless devices and the like, than graphical games (books are timeless, I guess a good parser on an IF is as well) have you ever considered reentering the text adventure market?
I think we need Resident Sims. Rats can carry the T and G virus, and your sims can hunger for blood and flesh and may evolve into Tyrants if you keep them well fed.
And they could still have babies, and baby zombies like Dead Alive. Ah, Peter Jackson...
What would particle man do?

I actually had to throw out my last keyboard. I weighed the gook, a mighty ounce. The thing that disturbed me the most:
Fingernails.
Am I not getting enough calcium, or is something/someone clipping their nails directly over my keyboard? Egads! Tis college life, me supposes.
