Of course they don't. That would be foolish and un-"real astronomer"-like. They call it the 'far side'.:) Really though, what is it called? I doubt it is called the 'dark side', or the 'far side', although I may be wrong.
If this proposal does go through though, and NASA begins research and development, hopefully it will reignite interest in the moon. We shouldn't dirty up the moon, but we should definately learn more about it.
To see still cam shots from the future (now how did they do that?:), replace 'XX' in the URL www.noradsanta.org/english/cam/santacamXX.html with any number from 01-29, inclusive. The locations the numbers correspond with (I think) are below, although somethings seems screwy (feel free to correct as the night progresses, I probably screwed up).
According to this article, AT&T's broadband internet network is experiencing some problems (nationwide it sounds like) and "some customers are experiencing lengthy hold times" (explains the 30 minute hold).
To quote the article, "The company will automatically issue credits to any customers who experience an interruption of service. Credits will be issued at the rate of two days free service for every day of interruption. In cases where the temporary outage is a bit longer, customers will receive free dial-up service from AT&T Broadband until they are restored to a high-speed network. These customers will automatically receive the free dial-up service from AT&T Broadband."

The most threatening of space junk is that which is not large enough to detect and manuever around, but not small enough to not worry about. This range holds lots of potentially dangerous objects that could puncture the outside of spacecraft. The problem is collecting and removing most of these objects from orbit.
On a side note, now that the ISS is higher, how is it's visibility from earth affected (if any) and will it stay at its new altitude (if so, for how long)?
Just one more note, Heaven's Above is a great resource for tracking satellites and other close to home astronomical events (such as Iridium flares).
'XP' stands for 'eXPerience', eh? Let's come up with some more meanings! How about:
'eXtra Painful', considering you have to call Microsoft most everytime you want to install it/change hardware.
'eXPensive', seeing as it almost requires a fast processor and lots of memory (not to mention just buying the darned thing).
'eXtraordinaryly Pudgy', when you see that a default intall uses 1+ gig.
'eXtremely Picky', when you have to open up your box to get just the right model number for your sound card (it has to be just right mind you, no using a slightly different driver, that would be BAD).
Can you think of any more?:)

Sorry, I think I was unclear in my original post. When I said that "They still don't forgive me for being able to do 842! in ~15 seconds!" I didn't mean I actually do the work. A better sentence would have been "They still don't forgive me for having a calculator able to do 842! in ~15 seconds!" Sorry for any confusion, and yes, that would be quite a feat which would deserve Guinness's attention.
842! is not the same as doing 2+2+2+2+2... 842 times. It is doing 1*2*3...840*841*842. If my reasoning is right, it involves 841 calculations. There is a difference.
But I find that the CAS in the HP series could use some SERIOUS work. I hate that damn equation editor. I hate the stupid menus that you need to do almost everything.
So far, my only complaint with the CAS is that it doesn't understand that 2x and 2*x are equal. What "serious work" does it need? As for the equation writer, I find it useful for writing big/long equations and seeing what an equation looks like as it shows in pretty print. You can set it up so that most areas by default show equations in pretty print. As for the menus, I assume you mean the pain in the neck "windowed choose boxes". I hate them as well, but you can (and I did) flip a flag so that the calc uses only the "soft menus" (at the bottom of the screen, accessed by the F1-F6 keys).
but c'mon the 89 is at least as technically advanced as the 49G.
I'm not trying to bash the 89, it is a good calculator, but IMHO I find the 49g to be slightly better because of RPN, RPL (Reverse Polish Lisp), and the ability to rotate 3D graphs in realtime (unlike the 89 which can't do realtime rotation).
Ahh, I agree. My HP 49g (the only HP calc in my school) is superior to my friends' TI's because of it's power and RPN entry system. We have great fun seeing who can do the largest computations and at least one of them really likes RPN. They still don't forgive me for being able to do 842! in ~15 seconds! Anyway, HP didn't stop production, only development; remember?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand these are workstation class machines with around 100 gig or so of disk, not server class machines with a terabyte or two. Either the FBI got their sizes mixed up, or they've been confiscating high-end server machines...
That's what everyone tells me, but I have a lot of other books that I want to read, and, without a decent explanation of why they are so good, I don't want to sacrifice any time I don't have to. If they really are good books I'd like to read them. Can anyone offer a better explanation?
Even Google's cache of the page seems to be Slashdotted. Yikes.
Notice that it looks like their using NT4. Take a look at the monitor in the upper left hand corner. Looks like an NT4 logon screen to me.

Thanks to Slashdot, we've just given this guy 50,000 hits according to his page. At least he thanked us....
Yes, I was aware.

No, of course it does.
RPN is more logical and follows my flow to thought much better than an algebraic entry system. Plus, you don't need parantheses.
