  1. Geek Chick on Slashdot Effect, Live and In Person · · Score: 1

Ok, GEEK CHICKS DO EXIST. I am one of the few and the proud. If you don't believe me, check my website, Sondy.com (which is in desperate need of an update). I use both PCs and Macs (I'm dual platform so I can get along with most guys out there...), game somewhat, organize and attend LAN parties, have my own domain, anime posters on my walls along with the iMac one, more electronic devices in my car than anyone else I know, and my watch on 24 hour time. I also have a social life, have many geek and normal friends, am attractive (according to the five guys I have dated... and I'm not even 17!), and participate in high school sailing. So, I do have a life.

Yes, geek chicks exist, but we are WAY OUT OF YOUR LEAGUE. (Ok, that's a lie, I'm going out with a hardcore Mac gamer now.)

Exactly. The few girls who post on Slashdot are usually intelligent enough / not cowardly enough so that they don't get modded down or use AC acounts. Geek girls rule - that's all I have to say (me being one of the few, the proud).

  3. Worthwhile Valentines on Gifts for Valentine's Day, 2002? · · Score: 1

Whatever happened to making your own Valentines? I'm a geekette and have been creating my own Valentines from scratch for years. Anyways, most guys prefer home baked mushroom clouds (from the Fallout manual) or chocolate éclairs or handmade cards to the store bought variety. I have friends who have kept my valentines cards for years! Geeks ought not to buy cards because they are creative people and can produce much better things with Photoshop or Bryce or whatever else. If you make a card, it shows the girl that you really care and are willing to put effort into things.
Enough of my rambling; what I want for Valentine's Day is the shirt from ThinkGeek that says, "I Love My Geek."

Not only are there all the warrenties to deal with but you also have to buy an operating system to run your spiffy new box. Windows XP Professional costs about $300. Factor that into your price!
Or you could always pirate it off Morpheous or EDonkey or whatever... that's FREE but it could land you in jail or with a hefty fine (which are much more expensive to deal with than the Dell, the iMac, and your homebuilt put together).

I pay for 56k with Earthlink but my highest connection is at 44. No one's modem will connect at 56k - at least not yet. That's impossible. I usually get anywhere from 16k to 36k depending on the length of the phone cord, how many splitters and connectors are on the cord, etc. etc. I'm not complaining - I just use a shorter phone cord closer to the wall jack. And I have no quips about Earthlink. They are one kickass ISP IMHO. I've had them since 1999 and nothing horrible has happened. We're planning on switching to their DSL service next month due to another lousey ISP out in the Bay Area and I look forward to it! The only scary thing about Earthlink DSL I have heard to date is that someone made a bomb threat to one of their call centers. And since I will be a new DSL user, the price increase doesn't scare me - I'll just read the terms of service to the letter. Their techs are some of the best I have ever encountered so I can't see why you are complaining.

c+???ac discussion showing up on Slashdot? This is a heavily biased Linux site so of course it is no surprise everyone has such a cynical, pessimistic opinion of Apple here. I was pretty happy when I mothballed my heater after acquiring an iMac, but this laptop forces me to keep all the windows open! Computers should not have to substitute for heaters, and that scares me. Any advice on what to do would be much appreciated.
