I've helped over 2 dozen people find wiis since launch (i got mine at midnight, so I was good), and I'll tell you all the same thing I've told them:

Check the weekly ads for Target and Best Buy on their respective websites on Saturday night/Sunday Morning. If there's a Wii in the Best Buy ad, go there immediately (sunday morning), they'll be there (ask if they're not on shelves, they may have not been stocked yet). If it's in the target ad, go to the store and ask the person working in electronics when they usually get their shipments in (day of the week). You should be good to get one if you get there before 10am that day.

Only 1 Nintendo title, and it wasn't for the wii (I'm not counting madden, as it's coming out for EVERYTHING). Not sure how to take that, as the new mario galaxy stuff looks really good, as does smash brothers, and wiifit looks fairly intriguing.

  15. Kind of already there... on How To Make the DS Even Better · · Score: 4, Informative

but not officially. Companies like m3 and Flashloader make devices that plug in to the gba slot on the ds, fit flush, and either have a set amount of onboard flash, or have a slot for an SD card (regular for the original ds, mini or micro for the lite). You can run homebrew applications off of these, as well as listen to music (with the winamp equiv. in moonshell), and play emulated games (though some snes games won't run full speed due to the fx chip issue).

Now, this doesn't simplify the friends code issue, and it's definitely border line illegal, but it does exist.

  20. Re:Wii Owner's 10-day take on Nintendo Talks the Future of Wii · · Score: 1

Not a nintendo fanboy. In fact, I haven't bought a new nintendo system since the nes (hell, didn't buy a SNES until 01, and that was because I hated playing earthbound on a keyboard/mouse combo). There are several games like Zelda that I give a week or so of play once a year, because they are amazing games, and the prettiness of them doesn't matter. I never meant that pretty and fun are exclusive, just that in the past few years, too much emphasis is on pretty, and not enough on fun.

  21. Wii Owner's 10-day take on Nintendo Talks the Future of Wii · · Score: 4, Interesting

I got my Wii at Midnight Sunday 19th (thanks game crazy), and have been playing it off and on when I can since then, getting in at least an hour everyday. I bought Zelda and Trauma Center with it. I've put about 10 hours in to zelda (great game, worth the system, though the wolf mode annoys the crap out of me), about 5 in to wii sports (man, these are a killer on the arm), and 1 hour in to trauma center. I've put a fairly good amount of time in to the original Legend of Zelda on the virtual console (play this once a year, just to remember what good, non-pretty gaming can be).

Overall, the Wii comes through on most of what it promised (innovative game play, etc), though, I have to say, I'm very disappointed with the lack of online toys. The browser is not active, new games only appear once a week for the virtual console, and the weather/news pieces aren't working at all yet. I recently upgraded my xbox's Xbox Media Center, and the stuff I could do on there made me really feel bad about the wii's meager network offerings (yes, I know XBMC is third party, but it's also been around for a few years, and still does more). I think that Nintendo NEEDS to get some more pieces out online before the end of the year.

It seems microsoft may have finally figured out what it takes to get some hype in japan: rpgs, and quirky, somewhat off games. It's a shame there is no Wii titles in the top 5, but Phoenix Wright for the DS did manage to break that group. I honestly hope that these rpg titles match up to the hype, and allows for a true three system battle in Japan. Because nothing generates innovation more than competition.

Honestly, I cannot see how anyone can justify almost $800 to play the new DOA on their HD tv. ($600 system, $40 extra controller, $40 hd cord, $79 game). Honestly, aside from the wii, this will push people to the 360 as well. I will be purchasing the wii, an extra controller, and a couple of games, and that's still only going to be ~$400. It just doesn't add up sony.
