About 6 months ago I left my System Admin / Level II support position at a local ISP and went into business for myself with another guy, our business is aimed at specialising in a key IT area that few local businesses do, that being UNIX consulting and specialist networking.
I think the only way to stay current and have something good on your Resume/CV is to diversify, not neccisarily specialise in a technology but be across many current technologies, read the literature - read mailinglist digests, visit as many free seminars as you can (visit some that you have to pay for if you think its worth while and you have the cash) if you know what the current products out there are, your better prepared than most people that are in the industry employed to work in one narrow area.
I heard somewhere there was an easter egg hidden away in some GMC DeLoreans that enabled time travel, steps go something like:
1. Ensure Mr. Fusion is fitted, if not source Plutonium (In order to supply 1.21 'Jigga'watts) 2. When in front of steering wheel, enable time circuits on mid console... Be sure to check your destination date, year is correct on the dash.. 4. Check that Flux capacitor is 'Fluxing' 5. Start driving, aparently when you hit 88 mph the easter egg will activate (indicated usually by a large flash of light) sending you back (or indeed forward) in time.
Please note I have never done this, so i cannot verify its success.:-)
I know, I know.. Windows program..
DeliPlayer, a native MOD, C64 and custom Amiga tunes player for Win32.
Thought I'd post the address for it seeing that i use it sometimes when I get nostalgic..
Maybe useful to those people out there that want to listen to the music from classic Psygnosis games or other custom music formats (195 formats supported including common PC trackers).
The projectors of the 1940's and beyond used optical waveforms on the side of the film to reform an analog sound signal during playback, was used on cinema technology up until the early 70s as I recall.. http://history.acusd.edu/gen/recording/motionpictu re.html
Has information on the original technology.
So pulling the signal off vinyl probably can be done with some level of precision.
Jim.
Seems now more than ever the need to check the authenticity of your sources before installing.
As if security auditing wasnt a big enough headache already

Just my 0.02cents
Obligatory 2.4 "jigga"-watts of electricity lark..
Yeah but you cant compare CPU's on Mhz alone..
The architecture the current P4's and lower are built around has its roots back in the late 70's, PowerPC's were designed some years later..
I do recall a 4mhz Acorn RISC CPU that ran rings around a 16Mhz 68030 for speed..
Cool news!
:(
If only now they'd release Lotus Turbo Esprit Challenge 2 with TCP/IP multiplayer for it!
Definately one of the cooler games for the amiga way back when...
Cant see it happening though
You know you've spent too much time reading slashdot when your first reaction isnt "They put a PC in A pumpkin?!?!"
But is: "Hmm I could think of three ways to build a bigger, faster, Dual Jackelandern POWER PUMPKIN!!!"
I think I need to go lay down now...

I used my felt tip marker to color the entire CD surface in, the world is one CD safer!
