  1. How to completely bypass the system. on Copyright Office Publishes Final Webcasting Rates · · Score: 1

These rules only apply to you if you are streaming music that the record companies own the rights to.

Hence, make your own music, or record some local bands, or surf MP3.com and ask your favorite independent artists there if you can stream some of their songs.

The argument always comes up that the stranglehold that the big corporations are trying to exert is going to be their downfall because people are just going to listen to what's free. Well, now that we have all this broadbandwidth available to us, why not help that along?

SOCOM and Madden NFL 2003 are the flagship release titles.

I wonder if the plugin could be modified to report back every page I go to. I really don't care if they know what I'm looking at, and if enough people do this they'll be completely overwhelmed.

Alternatively, just use it to send back reports while viewing "adult" sites. Put a grin on the workers faces, because hey, someone has to look at all the reports that get sent back.

  4. Slashdot DOS on DoS Attacks Persisting, On The Rise · · Score: 1

Slashdot doesn't just get DOS attacks, it also creates them. Isn't that what the slashdot effect is all about?

I can't count the number of times a site linked to by slashdot has been unloadable simply because of the number of slashdotters pounding on their server.

This sort of thing isn't limited to Slashdot, though. Any portal/news linking site does it. I'm thinking of Somethingawful and Fark specifically. Somethingawful has even had speed trials to see how fast they can max out bandwidth limits and take a site offline.

  5. .NET on The State of Remote Desktops? · · Score: 1

Isn't this the whole point of the .Net initiative and Application Service Providers?

While I think renting software is chintzier than 'buying' a license, at least with renting the consumer actually knows where they stand.

With your apps coming off the net from the ASPs and your data on a seperate hard drive, you could concievably gain complete machine independence.
