    This math in this article are wrong.

    The epoch is Jan 1st, 1970 at 00:00:00.
    With 32 bits, you can have

    4294967296 seconds if unsigned : thats 49710 days, 6 hours, 28 mintes and 16 seconds. On Feb 7, 2106 at 06:28:16, you'll go back to Jan 1, 1970 at 00:00:00.

    2147483648 seconds if signed : thats 24855 days, 3 hours, 14 minutes and 8 seconds. On Jan 19, 2038 at 03:14:08, you'll go before the epoch and everithing can happen.

    The color comes from the finish, not from the technology used. So if it's blue, it does not much more than if if was yellow or pink or with a Nathalie Portaman picture on it.
    Look at the letters and numbers on the core.

    I think our (Yes, I'm French) government has achived one of the most stupid laws ever. I guess it won't be long before someone attacks the law as it goes against EEC regulations (can you spell protectionism?).
    It has been decided to please the commercial interests of the cinema industry: The DVD zones are not backed up by the law, they're just a technical limitation the consortium aggred upon to maximize their profits.
    Now the consummers are all abusing than the broken-by-design limitation, so they've been lobying to have this stupid law passed, and our Minsitry of Culture put down its pants and told them to do as they want.

    You see only one light at night, so you can't tell which one is on if you can't see the color.
    I've always thought the lights should have different shapes: Why not have a red square, yellow triangle and green disc? It would be so much user friendly to the color-blind.

    There was a discussion telling that this anti-CFC campaign was just some lobbying from the chemical industry: CFC's can be produced for cheap anywhere (like in 3rd world) and they wanted to sell more profitable replacements for it.
    If it's true, it's sad.

    If you want to recycle parts, why not just heat the parts to just past the melting point of solder, then suck the parts off the boards?

    Because some components are glued in addition to being soldered. This is just the subject of the article : They invented a glue that melts too.

    Nope. The tiny resistors (I think they're called SMC) and some other components are actually glued to the mobo before the soldering is done.
