I have always said that Linux just isn't as accessible for desktop use as windows to the general public, this is a great leap towards that goal.
Sure Stallman might lay an egg over this, but for linux to reach the next level we need people who get PAYED for their PROGRAMS.

Up to this point in human history conservationists have focused their attentions on saving the planet.
Whilst we don't have any real pristine wilderness areas with the possible exception of Antarctica (if you don't take into account the fact that it is sitting underneath a huge gapping hole in the ozone layer and it is melting at an alarming rate) we do still have other planets which humanity hasn't yet managed to destroy/pollute.

Is it possible that the conservationists psyche will move from "Save the Planet" to "Save the Solar System" in the not too distant future.
Are there any treaties preventing Canadians from sending up a bundle of PFCs to Mars or any other planet without consulting the rest of the world and then mass migrating? As man starts to leave this over populated over polluted wasteland we now call home and spreads to new outposts of civilization will there still be a conservationist movement watching over mankinds proliferation into the neighbouring planets?

The only people that are afraid of this change are those who will be in the last generation of normal humans who will feel like they have been superseeded, so what.
The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, so go ahead and make some superhumans already. It is time for mankind to take the next big step. This is the first time in history we have a technology that can advance man to a new age and we are just sitting on it and arguing about whether it is a good or a bad thing. Ultimately it will be a good thing, like it or not.

A good point the article raises is how a lot of stimulant users start taking sedatives and/or depressants to counteract the havoc wreaked on their diurnal cycles. This kind of tweaking your system is bad, and it makes you stupid and far lest effective at work, not to mention in bed (unless of course you are taking Viagra in the mix).

I just read this book last week.
I am not a security consultant, nor am I an uber cracker. I am a programmer who due to middle management mismanagement is often forced to worry about network security a lot more than I should, but I digress.
I found a lot of the major points were identical to many things I learnt at university and was dissappointed by the scare mongering that the author employed. I would assume that anyone who reads a book regarding advanced security policy implementations would be quite aware of all the shortcomings in a lot of organisations systems and thereby doesn't really need to be bombarded with anecdotal nightmare scenarios.

I am disappointed by some of the sensationalism which is being used by a lot of "security" books.
There is a new genre of books coming out, pop-tech. Books which are half based on sound technical information (albeit derived from academic channels) and popular culture semi-futurism/apocalyptic tea leave reading.

Whilst this book is on the softer end of that spectrum it still falls into the same band.
Having said that, a lot of good points are raised and it will jog your memory, but if you want a sounder perspective on security and encryption I suggest you go to your local university bookstore and get a book which was written by someone who doesn't run a company in the field and doesn't need to drum up business.

If you want the futuristic tea leave reading then perhaps asimov is more your thing ;) Still can't get over the fact that he invented the satelitte.

This book is somewhat of a hybrid (as mentioned before it is by no means the worst offender but it is definately in the same cell block) please don't try to develop security policies for you organsation solely on this book. As the tea leaves will end up telling the truth.
