This looks great as a free client and for a workgroup environment. But, if you want to have the server for this, it looks like you will have to cough up at least $995:
There is a period during the descent through the upper atmosphere when radio communication often is interrupted. Other than that, there is always telemetry being sent back home to mission control. It is just those few minutes during the radio blackout time that things seemed to go wrong.
We could rid ourselves of all these spammers if we just brought back the Spanish Inquisition.... although it seems as if the feds and SEC might already be getting their help....
This could be the boost that helps all the coders out there trying to port Linux to the newer XScale PocketPC devices. All the people wanting to run linux on their new PDA's might have their wish now, and not have to buy the 1 or 2 iPaq devices (ARM) that supported it.
I know this is not an amazing feat of technology - to take a pile pf photos - but I really enjoy collections of landscape photographs and hope more areas take on this sort of project. I find these kinds of collections useful for flying - it really helps you get an idea of the landscape as it appears from above before you take off in a plane.
Just a tidbit for all the Beavis and Butthead jokers... The preferred pronunciation of Uranus accents the first syllable ('yur-&-n&s), and not like "your anus"
If you are happy with the hardware, keep bugging Hauppauge support for better software/drivers. But, I just wanted to throw a little techical detail into the mix for other people that might be deciding between the 2. The Tivo records at full D1 resolution (720x480, actually, which is cropped from "true" D1 of 720x486, but close enough). The Hauppauge product records at half that resolution. It is necessary because of the limited bandwidth of USB (Maybe they will do a USB2 product in the future). So, if you just want basic PVR features, and not stunning resolution, the USB PVR might be a good product for you. But, if you want to record things and watch things later at the best quality, you should save for a Tivo.
If you have ever worked in a large company, you might know that not all coders have access to everything. That is typically how a *small* company works. Try harder next time.
Anyone who has worked in a large unix shop knows that the most dangerous security problem is internal abuse. A disgruntled coder, or just someone wanting to mess around could cause huge amounts of trouble in your company. And in a MULTINATIONAL BANK??? You are telnetting and rsh'ing around your servers? Tell me where to send my resume please - I want a job there.
Sorry dude - that was Shatner in a Saturday Night Live sketch about Star Trek conventions. Well, you were clever enough to add profanity. Glad you could grace Slashdot with your presence.

Unless you are using a USB 2.0 setup, USB is 12 Mbit/sec, not 12 MByte/sec.
12 Mbit/set gives you roughly 1 MByte/sec of useable speed. So, the USB key should get about the same speed as your USB drive.
I have tried the program that lives at
http://www.globecom.se/jukebox/
It can do ripping, playing, queueing, and many other things all with a web interface. It stores MP3 information in a MySQL database. If voting is not currently implememted, the structure of this app allows easy addition of the feature.
Most likely the movie software (this movie format will not be a regular AVI or DivX unless the movie people are REALLY lost ) will burn data to your CMOS to record when you watch each movie. Windows has build in system calls to do this, you know:)
Maybe that's a little far-fetched, but i'm scared how much it will mess up my system to try to keep track of my viewing.

Exactly my thoughts - was just having a discussion today saying that at Rat Shack, they give you a cat and a catalog. No mention of it being on loan or no mention of being required to do anything with it.
My conversation:
Me: "I heard you had a promotion where you are giving away scanners?"
Shack: "Yes - here they are. They will probably start selling them for $20 after X-mas, but they are free now. Would you like one"
Me: "Sure"
Shack: "What is your name? What is your mission? What is your favorite color? Who is your physician..............."
No mention of any licenses or restriction, just "Here's a free scanner, it will probably cost $20 later"
After digging deeper, I found this information about how to set up their "SimpleServer" and avoid having to purchase the whole suite:

I believe that both the proponents of the project, as well as the ecology-defenders, have valid points.
But, just remember to take everything with a grain of salt...
I think they will look rather fossilized....

confised -> confused, if there are any spellchecking trolls watching :)
For a look at what Xinerama is all about, take a look here:
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Xinerama-HOWTO.html
I guess having a second monitor would let you watch a movie while working on screen 1, but that is not what Xinerama really is.
I think the poster was getting it confised with Xine (http://xine.sourceforge.net/)

Maybe you can ask Regis where he got his from?
Or are you Regis?
Pinball is OK, but my favorite GUI still has to be PONG 1.0 Easy to learn, and those paddles are much simpler than this 101-key keyboard.

It is about time that the movie industry gives away their movies for free. :)
Thank You
