The really clever thing about this was, they never went to the moon six times, they tried not to go to the moon actually seven times, 'coz one time they failed in their attempt not to go the moon, but luckily the three astronauts survived their attempt at not going to the moon.
Have just upgraded, it used to be a right rigmarole, now it couldn't be simpler.
The Mandriva server sent my desktop a message saying the upgrade was available would I like to proceed? I indicated yes, my system automatically downloaded the upgrade, took around 3 hours and considering it was an over 3 GB upgrade package not bad.
Upgrade package downloaded, it asked me was it OK to reboot "yes" I indicated.
One reboot later and I'm running the latest KDE and the latest Mandriva with no pain, no CD or DVD burning, usually for reasons unbeknown to myself, upgrading would involve reinstalling whilst keeping my original home partition, and getting everything working again usually a painful and frustrating process, it seems like those days are done!
Well done Mandriva, I will most certainly be spending some money in you're shop.
Before we had chemistry we had alchemy, where lone researchers tried to make an elixir or turn base metal into gold. Basically they all had to reinvent the wheel in terms of doing chemistry, because they kept their research secret out of selfishness. Then because of men like Francis Bacon, researchers started to publish their results, this lead Isaac Newton to announce "If I have seen farther than others it is because I have stood on the shoulders of giants".
By keeping source code a secret, companies like Microsoft, hold back computer science, if when windows95 was put on the market the source code had been published as well, thousands and thousands of coders from all over the world would have been able to work on it, adding features and removing bugs. People will wave their hands about and cry how will these coders get paid? Simple - they could have been paid in just the same way as any other public servant or military personnel or teacher is paid.
The more that companies support and use open source, the more everybody benefits. Why do you think Google have made Android open source? It is so every one can benefit. Making the source code for an operating system closed source, is a narrow minded and antisocial form of selfishness.
I sort of understand what you mean, like derivatives are something of raw materials that can be useful when the raw material is processed, so you can kind of define derivatives, as the process of globalising American trade imbalance, by flogging American debt in terms of bad mortgages, to derive a high standard of living without truly paying for it - by making real stuff to swap it for at a fair price, how stupid do you think we are?
Why does your nation have such a poor concept of honour, is it because most of you have been circumcised and cannot know true heaven?
I have no idea what a 'derivative' is so cannot argue with you, I do however know what petrol is 'coz I can smell it, perhaps you could enlighten me as to what derivatives smell of?
I am not an economist, so I'm probably wrong. I think this talk of derivatives and subprime mortgages might be a big red herring to cover up America's gargantuan trade deficit.
After the Breton Woods agreement, the world came off the gold standard, and because America won the second world war, it was decided that the dollar would become fiat currency ie the world's commodities would be traded in dollars.
This was not a problem then, because America's trade balance was extremely healthy, Europe's cities were flattened in the second world war, so their productive ability was very low.
America lent the rest of the world oodles of money, so as to fund the export of tobacco, this fund of foreign currency is starting to dry up, as people realize how bad tobacco is for you.
The only way for America to cover up it's enormous trade imbalance was to sell mortgages, to people who could not afford them, then to sell those dodgy mortgages abroad to get badly needed foreign currency, so as to fund their profligate life style, American fuel is still only about half the price of European fuel. America has vast amounts of it's own oil, yet still imports oil, it gets away with this because oil is priced in dollars all over the world.
If China starts to off load it's enormous pile of dollars, then the whole house of cards will come tumbling even faster.
America you can fool all of the people some of the time, you can fool some of the people all of the time, you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.
Far fewer women play chess than men, Judit Polgar has proved that women can play just as good as men, at her highest she reached 8th in the world and is currently 27th.
It has been shown many times that teaching young children chess is of great benefit with respect to teaching mathematics and reading. For instance teaching algebraic notation, teaches the child how x y coordinates work.
The more that women play chess, the more that they teach it to their children, the better the world will be. Chess teaches good manners for instance. It also exercises the brain's ability with semiotics.
For this reason, when women do well at chess it needs to be publicized, it is for this reason Judit Polgar does not play for the womens chess title. If she did play for the women's title she would win it no problem.
Judit's rating is 2711 and the current Womens world champion (who is drop dead gorgeous BTW) Alexandrau Kosteniuk is 2525 this rating does not even put her in the top 100.
So having separate tourneys for men and women, generates more publicity for chess, so a sort of win win situation.
Making the source code for a public operating system closed ie secret, is just ignorance masked as greed. If when Microsoft released Windows 95, they had also released the source code, they would have had millions of programmers, improving it, updating it, making it suitable for use by the human race. Instead of which we only had thousands of programmers working on it
Instead what did we get?
We got the new windows washes cleaner syndrome, like who needs Win 95 when you can have Win 98. just as the bugs start to be got out of Win 98, Microsoft tells us you don't need Win 98, its old hat, you must buy the new improved Windows called Win Me, the same mean trick was worked with Win XP and now Vista. I jumped ship after Win Me.
The more that Academia and Industry realize the benefits and logic of open source, the better the future for our poor benighted planet.
Hydrogen is strange stuff, you can use it as a fuel and in a balloon.
So get an enormous hydrogen balloon and use it to lift another balloon of oxygen plus a rocket engine.
Use the rocket engine to increase the orbital velocity of the rockoon, as the orbital velocity increases, the whole kit and caboodle would spiral outwards.
I am not a rocket scientist nor a mathematician, so I would ask all those far cleverer than me, how big would the hydrogen balloon have to be, to get the whole thing to geostationary orbit.
As an aside, a hydrogen balloon would be a cute way, to take water to the desert.
Iceland has lots of electricity, they say they are going to use all that spare electricity to smelt aluminum, no - use it to extract hydrogen from the sea.
Use the potential energy that exists in the hydrogen, to fly the balloon to an area of desert, then you use the oxygen that all ready exists in the desert and connect it to the hydrogen, that is in the balloon, viola you have taken both energy and water to the desert.
Iceland has enormous amounts of energy going spare and a population of under half a million.
Iceland has just completed a large hydroelectric scheme, the idea being to use it to smelt aluminum, no - use the electricity to extract hydrogen from the sea.
Put the hydrogen into the biggest balloon that is practical. Use the lifting power of hydrogen to lift a big bag of oxygen plus a rocket engine, to the edge of space.
Use the rocket fuel you have lifted to the edge of space, to take a significant quantity of hydrogen to the moon.
Around forty percent of moon rock is oxygen. Combine the hydrogen and oxygen to release energy, use the energy to melt the large amounts of silica laying around. Viola you have glass.
With the glass, create the biggest dome practical. Apart from the tons of helium three lying around, there is also ordinary helium lying around, use helium and oxygen to inflate the glass dome (this will give you breathable air.(albeit you will speak with a high voice but never mind) )
Use the waste water left over from combining the oxygen and hydrogen to brew beer. Then strap on a pair of wings and fly drunkenly around, singing the moon is a balloon.
People who believe things without evidence are usually crap at science.
For instance - what difference does bending over with your rear end pointing in the air and touching the ground with your forehead five time a day, make to anything?
Further more I think having these 5 times daily interruptions, would breakup the flow of effective lab work.
What, if some day or night a demon were to steal after you into your loneliest loneliness and say to you: 'This life as you now live it and have lived it, you will have to live once more and innumerable times more'... Would you not throw yourself down and gnash your teeth and curse the demon who spoke thus? Or have you once experienced a tremendous moment when you would have answered him: 'You are a god and never have I heard anything more divine.'
Nobody seems to be mentioning the enormous environmental damage caused by commuting to work, keeping the office cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
There is also the degradation of the earth's surface by covering a significant portion of the earths surface with offices, that instead could be covered with trees.
The only purpose for all these offices, is to maintain the status quo, for the minority of people who insist that their role in life, is to think for us all.
I agree, there is however, a way out of this problem with a new kind of coop. The coop workforce elects its leader from its own members, for a term agreed in the coops constitution, if the leader does not pass muster at the end their term, they do not get reelected. This is the way of the Mondragon corporation.
It would be nice if someone would put this on the 'net.
I saw an excellent BBC documentry in the seventies about a new kind of cooperative, that started in the Basque region in Spain check out the program here.
I have the same problem as you, I am also running the same OS as you. I am running an AMD 64 and graphics drivers installed from NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-8178-pkg2.run. If you are not running the same graphics driver as me it sounds like an OS problem. I would love to get this program working. We should share notes.

Ok so Microsoft takes Tom Tom to court in the US, I should imagine the Dutch people would have something to say about that, sort of like get lost.
I have a Tom Tom. and the fact that it runs Linux gives me pleasure.
So MS wins in the American court, to achieve anything it must also win in the Dutch court this is laughable.
SCO all over again.
Also what is to stop Tom Tom changing their file system?
A best selling biography of Paul Erdos.
This book conveys the magic of mathematics beautifully, by telling the life story of one of the twentieth centuries greatest mathematicians.

This is very interesting and should be modded up, it might explain the missing matter problem, and the pioneer anomaly.
