Now before somebody correct me on how well Ferrari is doing, let me remind them that their parent (Fiat) is dying and Ferrari is only doing better because they bought Maserrati. Maserrati sells for a fraction of a Ferrari, about the same as a high end BMW. Which again proves the point, that businesses grow when things are affordable... This is something that Sun just does not want to learn!
Don't try to make analogies between things you don't totally understand. Ferrari is like Sun in the respect that they are at the cutting edge of technology, you can't find a car that compares to the Ferrari Enzo today. Maserati and Ferrari are both owned by Fiat. Maseratis has been sold for years in Italy and I would assume Europe and its only recently that Ferrari is allowing Maserati to use their engines and technology. Also because both are owned by Fiat its rather common for a Ferrari dealer to also be a Maserati dealer.
Now this comparson would make more sense if Sun was pioneering technology and as it became more cost efficent, they had another division sell it in the manner of Dell. Ferrari develops things for racing, puts them on street cars to pay some bills, and eventually Maserati/Fiat and other auto makers put it onto mainstream autos.
(And if you care, Maseratis tend to only be expensive in the US, while still pricy in Europe and Italy, its not quite as expensive.)
Waiting tables usually involves putting the order into a computer at most chain type places, even flipping burgers can require use of a computer. So I guess he can shovel shit, know of any good job leads? Just saying "no computer for you" is rather broad. Perhaps it needs to be something like "no internet access" and that would allow things like use of ATMs and fast food jobs.
You do know he didn't take down the online version or modify that at all? He was accessing their internal network where they store stuff like payroll, employee info, etc. So all your comments about loss of revenue isn't really valid as he didn't deny anyone service. Now they did have to secure and check their internal network once they were informed about the intrusion, which would generate some cost, but the figures aren't loss of revenue they are cost of cleaning up.
So you get about 81MB of transfer per month to the outside world? Shit just surfing slashdot for a month could probably use that up...(Assuming that MiB means MegaBits) I think you can do more transfer on a 33.6K modem in a day...(If my math is right you can do about 350MB of transfer in a day on a 33.6K modem in theory)
Unless of course we hit upon fusion and nanotechnology. Then pretty much anything can be made for the same price as labor would have any cost. So raw materials would be the only barrier and assuming near unlimited energy then you could convert one type of matter to another easily (lead -> gold)
If someone, say SCO writes some code, then licenses it to IBM, and then IBM releases it under the GPL, then they are liable. Its not the users fault that IBM broke whatever license agreement that IBM had with SCO. And if Microsoft gave you the source to Windows under some licensing agreement you could place it under the GPL, of course you would be breaking your license agreement with Microsoft and noone really knows what happens to the code in these kinda instances. Or at least there aren't any highly publicized precedents.
I would think that its safe to say that most (if not 99%) of the people who tune cars don't really care about emmissions so long as they can pass whatever exists in their state. So when you don't have to worry about stuff like that as much, the backyard engineer can do better, plus the backyard engineer is doing essentally a "one-off" deal, whereas the professional people have to come up with something for production use. I would think if you look at some tuner type shops (Brabus, Ruf, Gembella, etc) they tend to get more power out of cars and ending up with something that still passes emissions and is drivable. Its just hella expensive so its not something that every manufacter can do.
No one said they were doing 1 frame at a time, they could have 2 computers each doing one frame, that would take it down to 79 years (assuming its parallelizable like that)
Um, did you look at the date on that page? Maybe 3-4 years ago that stuff was true, you know when 2.2 was just coming out and stuff, but now most of those have easily been surpassed by linux. Although I'm betting there's stuff in there that SCO might still be better at.

Didn't Castle Wolfensten (assuming you mean RTCW as the original wouldn't say much for the Xbox's power) and Baulders Gate first come out for the PC? So really they aren't exactly original titles...whereas most of the titles for the other consoles either are exclusive to consoles or they come out for the PC a few months/years later (GTA3).
Electric cars are just as old, hell some of the first land speed records were set by electric cars. But as the modern combustion engine became popular research and development on them slacked off.
Oh I agree compleatly, it would be one thing to have a blackhat compleatly build your network security and its another to have them test your current network security under supervision.
Wait so if I have 3 computers networked or even 20 in my house to play around on its computer terrorism? Damn I better tell the people that teach Cisco Classes around here, they have like 5 or more computers hooked together with routers! That must be like super-duper computer terrorism.
You mean like the banks and FBI did with Frank Abingle (sp?) the worlds greatest check fraud? They did and now check security is greatly improved and hundreds of people were caught because the guy they hired knew what to look for and how those people worked.
As others have mentioned in other places, put in conduits, so you can just run whatever you want. That way you can run Cat5e now and fiber 10 years from now or coax to a room you didn't plan on putting a TV in, etc.
From what I've read on slashdot, I think its only the older Mac's that have the boot rom, the newer ones don't have it or its emulated in software. Although I wonder if clone motherboards would still have the spiffy OpenBoot Bios.
So long as you have the Win2K install media you can install Win2K on your XP machine there, as the licenses are backwards compatable. So if you wanted you could legally run Windows 1.0 on your XP machine.
So how do you respond to a challenge if you are just using a terminal or are blind? Obviously if the characters are obscured, the screen reading program can't read it, and they would have to be a graphic of some sort. Unless they just make an alt tag that tells you what it is.:)
I think that's how IPv6 works, you are given essentally a netmask which allows you to have a ton of ip addresses under that. Everything is hirarchial, this also makes routing easier. Plus IPv6 has something like enough ip addresses for every grain of sand or something, so running out isn't going to happen anytime soon.

An IDS is easy as hell to setup but your right about it not working on a 386 too well. Just use snort though.

Unless IBM buys SCO out. But I think they would have done that a while ago if it was gonna happen, plus it would just legitmize their claims.
