Might be wise to wear your tinfoil hat when we have millions of Americans capable of voting for someone like Bush through his front facing campaign alone. There is no friction against the government in the states, and they do whatever they want as a result. Why no blow up a couple of towers, or release a new flu strain, or make up some laws? wtf are you going to do about it? exactly... nothing.

we are to believe that a bunch of arabs with intense jihad beliefs sat around in a cave thousands of miles away for two decades contemplating the doom of America by blowing up a few buildings with a few airplanes?

Think about why the IRA committed their terrorist actions, or why the taliban commit theirs. For somebody to go die to kill you, they must really really have a good motive, and I don't think our elegant lifestyles and cocky denouement are the full picture.

It would more be along the lines of us abandoning Bin Laden years ago during the cold war, but still... a very long time to hold a grudge.

For land based ISPs in the states its a little different, they would lose money. They currently charge like $50 (median like average from mine and friends experience), most people don't use $50 worth of bandwidth, maybe the torrenters do, but they are not the majority of an ISP's users.

Also the RIAA would not appreciate not being able to detect torrent traffic, and they have lobbyists.

I remember the good ol' days when ISPs weren't so anal with their bandwidth. Profit models tend to f' up like this in the long runs.

Ice melts naturally as per nature, we are constantly cycling an ice age, I believe we can still trace back to our old one. I'll be honest I think it's both. Part natural, part humans, we can't tell what is natural and what is caused by us because we haven't been watching the ice for very long on the ice's timescale.

Ice shelves melting are nothing to freak out about though, it happens all the time in nature, what is frustrating is the lack of evidence pointing either way and the accusing finger being pointed at humanity without proof. Also, stating that there is a problem isn't helpful, solving it is. If this guy's for real, he's on step 1 of 8 of the scientific method. It's just like the legalize marijuana conventions, a bunch of rabble shows up and expects to be respected simply for being there, marijuana is still illegal 95%, so what does that do for us, besides the scientist being the boy who cried wolf, and when the actual wolf comes, we're too busy w the boy.

However, terming accounts doesn't make them any $, while the customer getting throttle is still paying AND getting shitty service for their alleged abuse.

Torrent traffic doesn't have a big red sticky note on it labeling it torrent traffic, it's determined by # of simultaneous connections and the bandwidth utilization of the client, these are not 100% sure fire ways of blocking p2p.
