OMG, we can no longer reproduce if this goes thru since we can't participate in manufacturing humans 'cause they are capable of decrypting and helping to decrypt encrypted program-carrying signals! AIEEEE!
We have 3 Sony DVR-2000 Series 1's and we recently got our 4th TiVo, a Series 2. The remote STINKS! I absolutely HATE it! The Sony SVR-2000 remotes are much much much better and a lot nicer to use.
For one thing, the Series 2 remotes are missing some functions that the Series 1's have. Also, the channel number buttons are WAY WAY WAY down on the bottom of the remote making it a pain to one-handedly change channels by number. The direction pad is horrid because you accidently hit the wrong directions rather than the nice Sony remote which has individual buttons for left/right/up/down with plastic dividers to prevent accidents.
Problem with SecondLife is the crappy ATI video support. If you're using nVidia you'll probably be just fine but the ATI card support STINKS and they keep pointing fingers at ATI. Funny how all my other software seems to run fine on ATI. *shrug* I gave up.
I just spent some time here in Photoshop CS (REGISTERED LEGAL COPY) scanning in a $20 Andrew Jackson and nothing has happened. I scanned it in at 600 DPI and then at 3200 DPI then I saved it as a JPG and I saved it as a PSD at 3200 DPI, I then closed the file and opened with Photoshop CS as the PSD and nothing happened. I even went to "print" it with print preview enabled and nothing happened. Does this even WORK? Maybe I got the 3l33t Counterfeiter's Edition?
Well, my Christmas list is all gadgets and accessories, a few of which I broke down and bought myself because I got tired of waiting (ie: iPod):
ISM TL-30 safe (A place to store gadgets?) Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L IS Lens for my 10D Canon 24-70 f/2.8 L Lens Canon 16-35 f/2.8 L Lens Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro Canon 1.4x extender Canon BG-ED3 grip (Can you tell I want some camera stuff?) Extra BP-511 batteries for 10D 80 gig drive for my laptop 512 meg MS Pro MS for my NX80 Gigaworks 7.1 or Megaworks 6.1 speakers WD Raptor 2 10k RPM HDD Sony GDM-F520 monitor Plextor PX708A DVD/CDRW ColorVision Spyder w/Optical (Color calibration) Sennheisser HD600 headphones Carbon fiber monopod John Deere lawn tractor Shed for above tractor (or build a 3 car garage out of the 2 car..) Shelti or Tornado Foosball table Scott eVest 2m/440 HAM radio antenna Bulk tape eraser 2200 mAh NiMH AA's
PS: It seems my wishlist never drops below about $10-20,000 *sigh* Well, at least it stays down there...
While it's admirable to have a hack to change the channels, the fact that it's not part of these distributions along with the various remote codes for various cable boxes that the cable companies use is going to hamper adoption to a more mainstream market where the TiVo has penetrated. Now, if someone developed this a bit further and made up a database with the various codes for the different cable boxes out there and maybe packaged up some form of 'cable mouse' to sell along with it, we'd be all set. Sure, I could hack this together and get it working but you can't really preach this as a mainstream solution when it requires such hacking.
The one thing I really have against the RIAA and how it's going about this is this.. They're going after the people that are SHARING the music? Why? Should they not be going after the people DOWNLOADING the music? ie: Setting up servers with copywritten music on them which people then download from.
Or do we now have to keep all of our CD's locked up in a TL60x6 rated safe? Is the RIAA going after libraries that have CD's which are copied by people who check them out? Why not?
The problem I see with MythTV and Freevo right now is that they don't seem to have any concept of CABLE BOXES! Many people out there have digital cable and need to be able to control a cable box. Can these packages handle that? From what I've seen (at first glance) is that they are tuner based and don't allow serial or IR control of a cable box...or do they?

Uhm....see that red white and blue flag with the stars in the upper left. Thats the American flag. Yanno, the country you might live in.... Click on that and you'll get English silly.
This is a SCO based phone system which we happen to use here at work and it works quite well. I was browsing their FTP site one day and happened to notice some Linux files...some headers and what looked like a lowlevel driver of some sort. I didn't look into it much. (in/pub/linux) I'm suspecting that they are working on porting their stuff over to Linux to cut down on licensing costs.
I was trying to decide which to go with, XM or Sirius, since Stern has infected Sirius, I guess that makes the decision simple! XM for me!

What brain-dead moron designed the TiVo remote?
I think you're confusing death with a workoholic that doesn't have time to talk:

From those uptimes I'd say that BSD is most certainly not dead, it's quite hapily humming along reliably.

Uhm, thats a GOOD thing.
'cause OSX won't install on the 3 spare i386 architecture boxes I have laying around and 'cause it costs money. :)

Just hope you're not using an ATI card 'cause they're in bed with nVidia and not really fixing all the problems their client has on ATI.
I'm looking into moving to FreeBSD myself, serves my needs.
Linux for the desktop, BSD for the servers/workstations... ;-P

Yeah but thats a Nikon... ;-P
I still like Canon lenses over Nikon, they seem to migrate the technology in their higher end down to the lower end faster than Nikon does.
