Yeah, you're right. I saw this one in a Scientific American a few years ago, but I'm sure it's older then that.

    $25 + $2 = $27 / 3 = $9 each.

There is no missing dollar, as you can see.

  3. Wouldn't these also generate heat? on Chip Chiller · · Score: 1

From what I gather these are just tiny built in peltiers, which cool by moving heat. So these new chips will need huge heatsink-fan combos, most likely. This sounds like a waste of time, as it's much easier, and more effective to just stick a peltier with a large heatsinkfan combo on the chip.

I don't see why not as long as you know the enecoding scheme and checksum algorithim (almost all barcodes have checksums) However, it would be difficult to make such a thing look like a regular card, and the lcd would need a white background. The only way you might be able to get away with it is make it look like you have a card that's in one of those orginiser sleves, and tell them it's stuch in there, and have the circut underneith. Most of the places don't even make you bring the card, you can just give them someone else's name and phone # who you know to have a card.

Well I mostly type with one hand anyways... But there are keyboard layouts designed for one handed typing, just find a driver and attack the keyboard with a screwdriver (to pull the keys off) And put them back on as appropiate. If the keyboard you use at work can't have this done to it, just buy a cheep one that can. There's also some company that makes something called the "half keyboard" that was featured on /. a while ago, which dosn't need drivers and works as a one handed keyboard, but iirc it costs like $100

When I need someting (warez, movies, mp3, roms, ect.) I just hop on good ole' IRC and pull it off someone's fileserver. Many IRC client's and scrips have built in fileserving tools, many can even be searched from a channel. Why do you suppose they don't get sued? I think it's because thier primary purpose isn't file shareing.

  11. cease and desist on Courts Gives Napster 72-Hour Deadline · · Score: 1

It dosn't matter if they shut down a few OpenNap servers... A new one will just pop up elsewhere. The only way they could really put a cork on it is by shutting down server lists. Still... the RIAA can't win, when something on the internet is shutdown something else like it pops up elsewhere. I think that hosting server lists on irc would be the most resilant way of doing things as it's redundant, and distrubited.

Yes, but can they do anything about stuff on opennap? I've found that the MusicCity cluster (20 Terrabytes) usualy has more stuff on it then the offical servers (8 Terrabytes), and there's far less idiots on it. (join a chat room on an offical server) Anyways.... I alyas say, if the cat gets let out of the bag over the internet there's no way to put it back in. (Think DeCSS). The RIAA is wasting thier time.

Compare that to AOheLl. Why do people use AOL and the like? Advertising. Most people don't want to look for a local isp when they can just load an AOL cd acd never know anything better. Small ISPs don't have nation wide access numbers. So what, unless you travle a lot it's no big deal. Personaly I won't use any ISP thet requires you to use 'speical' software.
