I still find the enlightenment window manager suits my needs best. very fast and configurable, it allows for a wide variety of different methods of operation and interaction.
I'm looking forward to the eventual release(?!) of E17, although it seems like it's been an awful long time since the last version came out. E17 should prove 'interesting' in the least, as Rasterman has apparently decided to bring us a 'desktop shell' instead of sticking to 'just' a window manager.
I had allready found the iso hours ago on a mirror central to Mandrake's locality. Woulda leeched the URL to slashdot myself but it would kill my download!:)
Well, since any action taken against microsoft is sure to still leave them with countless billions, how do we know that the comitee in question can't and won't be 'bought' off to look the other way while Microsoft continues in it's regular practices?
As I just installed mandrake 8.1 for him last night, and began explaining the basic commands such as 'ls, cd, mv, rm, mkdir...etc' to which he said, "yeah, but can't I just click around and do the same stuff', to which I could only reply: "ummm, yes, I guess so, if you wanna do it that way".
I'm no doctor, But I believe that radiation simply excells at killing all cells. The trick is to use reasonably small dosages of radiation, and target your attacks very precisely. So it's not a matter of 'only' killing cancer cells, but rather trying your dambdest to avoid killing normal cells in the process.
I used to think the same thing as you..."it's would be great to be the admin". I had a job with a company as a programmer....and while I was slaving away on code all day the admins just sat and read slashdot! (breaking occasionally to add a new user or go to the deli)
I've been my own sysadmin since I first installed linux, so I figured it would be easy.
long story short I left the company, and so did the admins, company now needs admins, so I come back. Now I'm left fixing brain damaged servers from the ground up and have more work on my desk then I did as a lowly programmer.
yikes. I just wanted to go to the deli!
Umm, how about "If ya don't want to listen to Nazi music, don't download any Nazi music" - makes sense to me. Parents, if your kids want to download Nazi music, you've probably got bigger things to worry about then what music they listen to. American History X anyone?
Don't he mean snapshots, not screenshots? As in CVS? I'm sure cvs access will lead more people to code than how tricked out my enlightenment desktop looks.
Ten bucks says the distro of choice will be RedHat. Reasons why: (correct me if I'm wrong)
1:)Doesn't Dell allready sell Boxen with Linux(RedHat) pre-installed??
2:)Isn't a lot of Gnome Development done in RHAD? (used to be, not so sure anymore)
3:)Micheal Dell and Bob Young have been looking for ways to subvert Bill anyway they can.
A "user friendly" distro, coupled with a "user friendly" Desktop, makes a "user friendly" something something (*cough cough*).
Ahem. yeah. someone pay me my 10 bucks....
Akira was much better as the 37 book series, the stories represented there and in the film are almost entirely seperate. It was very confusing to see the film before the full series was released, it really screwed with my concept of where the story was going. Hands down, though, the Akira film will forever stand out as the *definitive* anime movie. (in America, anyways.) Ask anyone who doesn't watch or know about anime, chances are they've either seen or heard of that "strange cartoon" called Akira.
Something like this reminds me of Spider Mans tracking-bug things. Now if only someone would develop crazy string strong enough for me to web-sling through city streets with, I could dress up in red and blue pajamas and NOT be considered a lunatic!
I can just see it now; people complain about comand intuitiveness now, what's it gonna be like with a device like this? Can you get a console on it?
tilt left,left,right,up,up,down,left for directory listing.
tilt right, down,up,right, left, followed by a shake, left,up,more shaking, right, and up once more to change dirs.
throw it in the clothes dryer to randomly recompile the kernel.
God forbid you drop the thing down some stairs and accidentally issue "nohup rm -rf/&"
I've had great results with: (oogle google, too lazy to link)
qmail + qmail-queue-patch + qmail-scanner + spamassassin + sophos AV + sophie + procmail
